S22 | Knights Hospitaller (Halston): Trench 4 - 3D model

Well, Time Team is BACK!

What a dig that turned out to be – we hope you enjoyed the episode as much as we did. Thank you all for watching, liking, leaving your comments and making it all possible.

The dig may be over, but there are many more insights on the site and finds still to come, so stay with us for all the action.

Let's start with another 3D model, created by Adam Stanford using aerial photogrammetry.

S22 | Knights Hospitaller (Halston): Saxon Font - 3D model

Wow, what a response to Day 1 of our Knights Hospitaller dig! Remember, it's your support that directly makes this all possible, so thank you again for helping us to uncover more history.

The dig got off to a great start, with Richard K Morriss identifying a Saxon font that might be over a thousand years old! It predates the Hospitallers, of course, but what an incredible find for Gus's virtual museum.

S21 | Broughton Post-Ex 4: Roman Tile

One of the best bits about archaeology is when it introduces us to individual characters from the past. Our story at Broughton Roman Villa has largely centred on the lady of the sarcophagus, but in this next clip we meet some other personalities... of the four-legged kind!

When Dani and Naomi visited the lab to analyse finds from our 2021 dig, they highlighted three different types of evidence that confirm the presence of canine companions on site.

Sam Newton's Lost Soundscape: The Archaeology of Music

When it comes to music, it's often said that all you need is three chords and the truth. Typically associated with rock 'n' roll or country music, it turns out this adage has deep roots, stretching back thousands of years to the earliest folk music of distant prehistory. For centuries, storytellers and bards have regaled audiences with epic tales set to music.

While archaeology helps us to recover lost details from the past, how can we bring the sounds back to life, too? Thankfully, we ...
