S21 | Dig 2: Sarcophagus - 3D Model

Wow, what an adventure that has been!

We hope you enjoyed the third and final day of our Roman villa excavation on the Broughton Castle estate. Although the three days are up, the journey is far from over.

As Emily highlighted in the Big Dome Review aftershow event, we have more coverage to come, both following the story of the castle and sharing further post-excavation insights.

In addition, as Tim exclusively revealed, plans are already underfoot to return to investigate t...

S21 | Dig 2: Broughton Horn - 3D Model

Digs can uncover some unusual and unexpected finds, as we discovered on the morning of Day One, on the Broughton estate.

This strange looking horn is to likely to originate from a much more recent period of history than the Roman villa - possibly a post-Medieval hunting horn. The small insert that resembles a claw may originally have held a reed to produce the sound.

Venerable Beads: Excavation By Water

While flotation can be particularly useful in identifying environmental evidence – like pollen, carbonised grain or molluscs – it's equally valuable in recovering other small finds, including ti...

S21 | Dig 1: Unbelievable Discovery (Deleted Scene)

It’s the 1st of April, and let’s celebrate the start of a new month with an exclusive deleted scene from our excavation of the fogou at Boden in Cornwall.

On Day Three, John Gater’s geophysics made a truly extraordinary discovery, highlighting the sophistication of today’s scanning technology. We always knew that John would come up with the goods, but it’s fair to say that his findings left the team of experts perplexed.

If you can help us shed light on this unbelievable...

This lovely fragment of Trevisker ware complete with 'lug' (handle) was discovered earlier at Boden, Cornwall by Meneage Archaeology Group.

It's a great example of the decorative geometric designs recreated by Natalie Haynes and potter, Angie Wickenden, in the experimental archaeology segment on Day Two. Zoom in to see the indentations left by the twine.

On Day Three of our first episode at Boden, Cornwall, Natalie Haynes was treated to a masterclass in trowel technique with Time Team's digger, Ivan Clowsley, in the 'fogou extension' trench.

Here's a 3D photogrammetry model of that very trench, created by Aerial-Cam's Adam Stanford (the ghostly spectre in the earlier fogou model).
