You may be aware of the intriguing sherd of Samian ware discovered at the Iron Age settlement in Cornwall that we will be digging this year. What on earth was it doing there?
In this general discussion, Tim Taylor and Helen Geake ponder over trade in the ancient world. We know it was happening to some extent. But how might it have worked in practice? How established were international trade networks? What happened before the introduction of coinage? And what can Helen tell us about sour...

Every now and then, we like to share short clips, previews, extracts and fly-on-the-wall moments – whether from upcoming interviews, research trips or simply footage that might otherwise be condemned to the cutting room floor.
These pieces might be a little rough around the edges, but hopefully provide insights into the process, or a flavour of what’s to come while we work on the finished content. Going forwards, we’re going to flag these pieces ‘Fly on the Wall’.

Kerry first joined the show as a digging archaeologist on the suggestion of his close friend, Mick Aston. Kerry later moved into the production side and was key to organising everything on site, from helicopters to porta-loos. We enlisted the expertise of buildings archaeologist and illustrator, Dr Richard Parker, who helped us strip back the layers of history and find some of the earliest buildings in the town. Many of the houses turned out to be hundreds of years older than originally thought, with ancient structures hidden behind more recent facades.
