Fly on the Wall: Blick Mead - Stonehenge Spring (coming soon)

We're just putting the finishing touches on a fascinating new interview Dani Wootton has recorded with archaeologist Prof David Jacques.

Blick Mead is an ancient spring a stone's throw from Stonehenge, with exciting evidence of human activity in the Mesolithic – long before the famous stone monument was erected. Prof Jacques shares news of this rare and important site that is increasing our understanding of the wider landscape around Stonehenge and the origins of this iconic yet enigmatic site.

This really is one not to be missed! In the meantime, here's Dani with a quick sneaky-peek preview of what to expect...

Blick Mead is going to be an awesome site and I pray you find a LOT of finds on the digs you encounter on this site. Having been researching and digging though my family genealogy for the past going on 28 yrs, I have come across a LOT of the Wooton [ Though I notice you spell your surname a bit differently ] surname, from my half brothers father's side of the family and wonder, if your branch might be connected to them... wouldn't that be awesome if there was a way I could find that connection? So glad your back with Time Team Dani, and Look forward to seeing more of you... I keep praying that Phil will also be back..

Is it Tt law to have hats!!! Keep up the good work

And anyway, Covid-19 and its restrictions is on the down, so the main disturbancy factor is leaving us. E.g. wait and see :) - or hear...or both.

It's a good idea and we do this already for many of the sessions, where appropriate and the contributors have the time and facilities to do this. But it isn't always possible or appropriate for every individual feature and depends on many of the factors mentioned above. Particularly when speaking to a one-off guest – often academics or professionals finding time within very busy schedules, who are not set up for home recording – this is the only practical way to do it. Of course, with two-way interviews we get the benefit of interaction and spontaneous debates or questions, which hopefully enrich the experience. The challenge is then being limited by the video/sound quality at the source and connection speeds. We've already supplied regular guests with better quality webcams and advise one-off guests on lighting, framing etc to get the best results with what's available. We share the frustration when the original recording quality affects people's enjoyment, but we are taking other steps to minimise this, and on balance, we hope there's value in still sharing these with you.

Would it not be possible to have the participants record the session locally? The recording could then be sent to your editor who can then assemble the video for release.

Hi Mike. Thanks for this. We are very conscious of video recording resolution and are working remotely within the current limitations and unusual circumstances to keep delivering content. In some cases, particularly with guest interviews recorded online, there are various limits beyond our control (including bandwidth/internet speeds, the individual's own particular set-up, and of course the constraints of scheduling in guests within their own very busy time tables). Please bear with us while we take steps to improve the recording quality, where possible. Many thanks

Time Team

Please don't take this the wrong way, but the video quality if these presentations seems to be getting much worse as time goes on. Surely there is a better way of doing these interviews in order to get better video quality? I find them very difficult to watch - so much so that sometimes I just close my eyes and listen! The content of these videos is very interesting and is spoilt by the awful video.

Hmmm, did someone wash Phil’s hat?

Robert Wise

That was a really amazing story. Very sad to hear that it is planned to bulldoze right through that site for a road tunnel. Is there a way for us to express opposition to this in any meaningful way, i.e. anywhere where the powers that be gonna notice it?

Wolfgang Zenker

I find the soft focus a little too hazy for comfort.

Levy

Is wearing hats now mandatory on Time Team videos? I hope so!

John Matthew IV

Like the hat, Dani!

Looking forward to this. Absolute magic. If asked to choose my interview of choice this would have been it. Have heard of Blick Mead and Professor Jacques (Names only). You are filling in my mental sketch book again.
