Talking Tudors with Suzie Lipscomb – Chenies Manor

We recently caught up with Professor Suzannah Lipscomb to have a chat about Chenies Manor – the location featured in 'The Manor That's Back to Front' (S12E01). You can watch the full episode on Time Team Classics here: https://youtu.be/PC5U4uhESdg

In this Patreon exclusive, Suzie shares her insights on the episode and her own experiences of when the specialisms of history, archaeology and architecture have come together to help shed light on the past.

We look forward to welcoming Suzie to our upcoming digs later this year!

I think Professor Lipscomb will be add great insight to Time Team! I used to work in a public library … it is such a pleasant feeling being among the books … the best from so many minds!

Robert Wise

You could send an expedition to excavate those bookshelves. It looks like there’s whole hidden worlds to be discovered in there.

Alan

Excellent. As was the bookshelf behind her!

With all of Prof. Lipscomb's enthusing and flitting descriptiveness, I have gained a substantial new insight. Throughout our histories, the architectures of the grand or the ordinary rise and fall, especially visible in the very grand, which absorb such immense amounts of labor, money, time, then 100 years or less are abandoned or deliberately torn down--suddenly seeing decades or durations of history's "good ideas" and "new enlightenment," etc. are seemingly more like "FLASHES IN THE PAN--Very little is retained & USED--despite grand efforts, we do not accrue value or insight or improvements? Sad feeling of "all that work & artistry & labor" went for nothing? Whole lives, with our without masons' marks, all down in a tumble....VERY strange feeling after Lipscomb's discussion.

I really like the person that Suzannah Lipscomb has become.
