He literally pissed on their graves

There's my dog Sal, looking self-satisfied (and very cute) after taking a whizz on the grass covering a mass grave containing Captain Samuel Wadsworth, Captain Samuel Brocklebank, and about fifty of their men who fell together during the Sudbury Fight in April 1676. Horribly disrespectful, I know. In my defense, I halfheartedly rebuked him after the fact.

As you can probably tell, I drove into Massachusetts today, and on the way to my destination stopped by the battlefield in Sudbury to...

Thumbnail of the video I'm working on

I crack myself up sometimes!

Apologies in the delay in getting this collab video out. We shot it last month, but delayed the release because I wanted to get Checkmate Lincolnites out on July 4th. In any case, I think y'all will really enjoy it!

Oh, and in other news, I'm going to Massachusetts next week, where I'll be filming a very special Witchfinder General video.

Did the CONFEDERACY Have BETTER GENERALS?!?!?!

Stick around through the credits :)

A still from filming today

Wrapped Checkmate Lincolnites 7 about an hour ago. Though this will likely be the longest episode in the series, shooting wasn't as much of a nightmare as I had anticipated.

In other news, I'll be appearing tonight in a live discussion about online historical education over on the Cynical Historian's channel – hope to see you there! https://youtu.be/w_cSt_GDZms

Shooting this weekend

Because this episode will be so long, I'm filming both tomorrow and Sunday with the help of my filmmaking partner. Wish me luck!

Release date is July 4th.

It's going to be an hour long.

16 pages so far, and I haven't even gotten to Grant and Lee.

Guess who's in town?

I had a lovely time showing Karl around the French Quarter tonight (this pic was taken at Molly's at the Market, if you're familiar).

For those who don't know, Karl runs the excellent firearms history channel InRangeTV. We did a Q&A together recently, and – as tonight has shown – share many, many interests.

We're filming a collaborative video tomorrow! Stay tuned :)

Reading list for Checkmate Lincolnites 7

Working title: "Did the CONFEDERACY Have BETTER GENERALS?!?!"

I would title it something like "Grant vs Lee: Who Would Win??" but that joke would go over tens of thousands of people's heads with the screeching force of a low-flying Boeing 747.

How a Civil War-Era Politician Invented Atlantis

It may look like I'm watching TV late at night but it's the middle of the day and the light from the "screen" is actually coming from a fresnel, it's a lie, show business is all lies

From my upcoming Atlantis video.

The Witchfinder General Gives Spiritual Advice

No, this green screen test isn't going particularly well

Trying to light the foreground with candles and the green screen with my regular film lights. It's kind of a disaster – looks like I've got to scrap the idea. Oh well. There goes 3 hours of work.

Gimmicky new Witchfinder General idea / upcoming collaboration / Sudbury Devil starting back up

Hey everyone!! As you know, I love me some gimmicks, and I'm taking viewer video submissions for the tentatively titled upcoming video "The Witchfinder General Gives Spiritual Advice." I've been reading The Heart of Christ by Thomas Godwin (yeah I don't really know who he was either. Some Puritan weirdo) which has been giving me some inspiration.

In other news, I'm collaborating with History With Cy (one of my favorite ancient history channels) and World of Antiquity (aka Dr. D...

Following Bienville: The Founding of New Orleans

What I did on Easter

On Sunday, I filmed a really cool new video tracing the "backdoor" of the city of New Orleans, an ancient route established by Native Americans and used by Bienville and the first French colonists of the city.

Back in the day, much of the metro New Orleans area was impassable swamp, and traveling to the site by going up the Mississippi was impractical and difficult - but it could be reached from the sea by a sneaky shortcut through Lake Pontchartrain, down Bayou St. John, and then over ...

Hmmm... what's Atun-Shei up to this time?

Enlisted the services of a cartographer to make maps (here's a first draft) for the next video. What could it be about, I wonder??

Frozen '50s Man ~ Episode 1

Hey all, sorry about this but I noticed a glitch in the video file of the first upload of Episode 1, which caused some visuals in the opening sequence to fritz out in an ugly way. Here's a new upload, the version that will go live tomorrow. I've deleted the previous early access post from yesterday.

FYI: The reason the list of patrons goes by so quickly at the end is because I was trying to emulate the fast pace of TV show credits. This won't be a regular thing – just for Frozen '...

Location scouting at the ruins of an 18th century fort

Stopped by the Old Spanish Fort on Bayou St. John today, location scouting for an upcoming video about Jean Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville and the founding of New Orleans. The fort was originally a wooden blockhouse in Bienville's day, then rebuilt by the Spanish in the late 1700s before being expanded and reinforced by Americans after the Louisiana Purchase. What you see in this picture are probably the remains of the American additions.

I'll save the details of the video for an ...

Just found this picture on my phone...

Halloween, 2019. Just a week before his first video on my channel, the Witchfinder General staggered drunkenly into Jackson Square to argue with some weird culty false Christians protesting... something. People having fun, I guess.
