On Sunday, I filmed a really cool new video tracing the "backdoor" of the city of New Orleans, an ancient route established by Native Americans and used by Bienville and the first French colonists of the city.
Back in the day, much of the metro New Orleans area was impassable swamp, and traveling to the site by going up the Mississippi was impractical and difficult - but it could be reached from the sea by a sneaky shortcut through Lake Pontchartrain, down Bayou St. John, and then over a dry ridge to the high ground where the French Quarter stands today.
I dressed up and traversed this route by boat and foot from lake to river, an epic journey that took a whole afternoon to complete.
Footage is coming together pretty well, and it's very goofy. It's like Atun-Shei does Long Way Round. Hopefully I'll have it done by the end of the week!
