Have you ever wanted to know what kind of sandwich Roland ate on his way to the barony of Mejis in the earliest parts of his life? That might be in the massive omnibus comic book collection The Dark Tower: Beginnings, which we read for this month's Just King Things Bonusode. It also might not be. Was Roland immediately the target of the Crimson King, a giant spider-fella who curs...

We talk the big talk about the ole Monster Manual. We've had plenty of chatter about Gene's Monster Manual, but what about the original guidebook to all the kooky kreatures of Middle Earaauuhh I mean Dungeons & Dragons?
Listen to the episode to learn about the letter D and tune in for our final ranking of all the letters of the alphabet. Or did we forget to do that?

Danni and CMRN talk about many things: Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield, potatoes. They discuss when "potato time" is. UItimately, they resolve some of the greatest questions of human life, and what more can you ask from the Ranged Touch Podcast.

The time of spirits draws to a close. Pumpkins carved with moldering faces rot on porchsteps. Like an ancient VHS on rewind, mummies walk backward into their sarcophagi. Bats turn into draculas who then also walk backward into their coffins. Frankenstein puts on a silver-buckled pilgrim hat if he is in the United States. Something howls at the moon, but what's that silhouette? Not a wolf–a turkey. And the Ranged Touch newsletter is back, baby!!!!
Gosh it's been a minute, huh? But we'...

Continuing with our standing with the striking actors, who very politely asked us not to talk about movies until the AMPTP makes a deal, we're doing a massive Q+A episode this month. That's right: a whole year's worth of questions that you have been emailing us, hammered into shape and spit back out at you in this very episode on this very month. In this town. Not five years ago this very night. You get it.

The band sits down to jam about everyone's favorite interesting writer with (some) terrible ideas, Borges. We rank our favorite stories from the collection, someone reveals a secret, and somehow they find themselves along the way. Or some version of themselves, that it. It's a rollicking good time with fun for the whole family, if your family likes reading short stories about the internal monologues of Nazis or considerations of the mathematical possibility of all books ever written existing ...

The crew sits down to talk about John Difool and his mystical science fiction adventures. They read all of The Incal, created by Jodorowsky and Moebius. It's a wild romp. You ever get inside a mystical space ship that's also your own child but also the Metabaron's symbolic child and then ride around the universe writing wrongs and doing things?

We've got the Darabont double whammy. From the highest highs of The Mist to the lowest lows of The Green Mile, we've got all the stuff you want to hear about the making of this movie and the absolute abysmal experience of watching it. Overlong, poorly considered, starring your best friend Tom Hanks, this surely was a thing that a lot of money was spent on.
A brief note: due to a request from the striking actors, we're avoiding movies as bonusodes for a little while (w...

We walk through dusty hallways grim and dim to learn about the the horrors of what lies beneath the surface of polite society. That's right, we answer the questions you submitted to our question and answer email. This episode is long as hell.

We delve into John Milius's sword and sorcery tale. Do we learn the answer to the riddle of steel? Do we actually know what is best in life? We asked Danni to come help us learn these things, although he did not provide us with any barbarian rhymes.

We've got a new show! It's called Shelved By Genre, and it is an analysis of genre literature. CMRN and Michael are joined by Austin Walker to talk about Book of the New Sun. This is a slower show than some of the others, and so each episode will cover either a third or a fourth of a book. Our first series in The Book of the New Sun, which is made up of four books. The first episode of the show is ab...

In this month's bonus episode, we talk about Tobe Hooper's Salem's Lot adaptation, which (at the time) was the most expensive miniseries ever made for television. We ride up and down the rocky road of a tv show made by a guy who did not understand how to make a tv show, and we also talk about James Mason's surprisingly tender performance as Straker. There are also jumpscares in the program, but not in this audio podcast.

Nick Wiger joins us to talk about the miniseries from the 90s that everyone sort of remembers: The Langoliers! It's sort of a locked-room story, sort of a Twilight Zone episode, and every part of it feels stranger than the last. Listen to us talk about this tv experience where there is a plot-critical toaster in a blanket.

George Romero is Stephen King's evil twin, and he once sat down to faithfully adapt The Dark Half into a rip-roaring horror romp that moves in and out from slasher to creepy bird flick with a powerful deftness. We watched this 1993 film so that we could understand it, and we came away lukewarm. Listen to this bonusode to learn about Timothy Hutton's method acting and to get a critical evaluation of macho bullshit.

On television, they once asked the question about who was knocking at the knocking at the knocking at the door. It was The Tommyknockers, of course, and so we watched the ill-fated 1993 miniseries. Despite some really great performances, it is an underwhelming mélange of random characters entering and exiting rooms. Jimmy Smits is in it.
We also delve into the Question Sewer for a couple questions!

The Summer of Classics continues. We've learned a lot. A lot about the classics.
Game Studies Study Buddies has released an episode on a germinal text of early game studies, Dovey and Kennedy's Game Cultures, and I feel confident that if you have not listened to it yet that you probably should. The book does a great job about setting the stakes of what game studies cared about in the early 2000s, and it gives a lot of context to the focal points of that era. There's a lot of co...
