A Different Sort of Break

It's not really been a secret that YouTube has burnt me out these last few months. Blindly trying to fight huge daily changes to your income source will do that to you.

In other news, YouTube is on fire, everything is going horribly wrong and everyone I work with spends 90% of their time crying and wishing for death.

Ooof

Some YouTube records broken this month. Not only is this the first year to ever have a month with a lower income than January but it's actually the lowest income I've ever had on record (apart from at the very start). Views held, subscribers were 33% up (thanks to that Battle Sim video) but, as you can see, the income dropped a whopping 25% since just last month. YouTube Red income, while small, remained the same. This issue is advertiser side. So what's happening?

General YouTube Ranting

This is my third attempt at writing a post about other YouTubers. The first two were a bit... angry. Anyway, here's the highlights.

1. I fucking hate YouTubers who use a facecam with VR videos. It's fucking idiotic. I wrote about this a month or so ago but since then I've tried to find anyone who does it well and I've come away hating everything I saw. What's the point of a reaction camera when you can't see your fucking reactions?! Pewdiepie's the fucking worst for this. In his Rick and Morty...

End of "Completes"

Little bit of a channel change up coming up in a few weeks. I'll be removing the completes and permadeath series as the main daily video. I didn't really feel like doing anything next and no suggestion really stuck with me. 

In it's place will return the Tests series. I never really liked it as a main video but an unedited daily look at a new game should be fun. I fancy getting back into just messing with multiple games so, fuck it, let's bring this back.

First Day Back

Had my first day back to work after weeks of being ill. Here are some of the things that happened.

Recorded an episode of JC3. Game crashed 20 mins in. That means huge issues with syncing when I get to editing.

Recorded a second episode of JC3. Forgot to hit record after crash of last episode so actually recorded nothing.

Mouse broke. Now can only double click for some reason. 

Recorded 3 more episodes. Crash in each one of them. Syncing issues all over.

Today I stuck a sticker of my logo on a sketchbook. Why? So I can use this title and watch people without Pateron freak out on twitter. 

If anyone asks, the book is real. Because it is. I drew a penis in it already.

I'm going to talk about Art. Modern Art. Brace yourselves.

First thing to know is that Modern Art is art from the 1860s to the 1940s/1970s. Current day art is Contemporary or Postmodern art. That's not important right now but it may win you a few points in a pub quiz down the road.

The painting above is Tableau I by my favorite artist, Piet Mondrian. I wasn't particularly bothered by art when I first saw this painting. I just saw what most of you are seeing right now. A bunch of squares....

The Comedy of VR

I understand the function of a facecam. These days it's mostly to get your face out there and help sell your merch/tv rights/book whatever but I'm talking here about it's original function. It's a way of showing the viewer your reaction to what's happening. 

(OK, so it's been diluted somewhat by seriously uncomfortable over-reacting but blah blah blah old man yells at cloud I'll get over it.)

How it all started

On the 20th March the Nerd³ channel hits six years old. The first video (which I'm just holding the camera for) features Edgar Wright recieving an award that he won on our little website. 

Then, a few months later, Edgar Wright hosted a competition to edit a Scott Pilgrim Music video. I entered and came in as one of the runners up.

No more fiddling or watching hours of unedited me that I recorded earlier in the day. Insanity pushed back several years.
