2018-11-06 20:43:53 +0000 UTCI might have a reason for the recent drop off. In America; school is about to start . We get a lot of summer work here and we a lazy bastards. Since quite a large portion of your audience are school age, they are probably rushing to do their work and, sadly, don't have time for your videos. If your income comes back in a few week then i guess i was right.

2017-07-29 20:23:22 +0000 UTCI've been watching Twitch streams for years and I've always felt it was cooler than Youtube. I love the unedited, live experience and the chat interaction. You can have fun with 8000 other viewers as well as with a 10 people chat. Pretty much the only benefit of Youtube for me as a viewer is at this point the permanently hosted videos, which only stay on Twitch for a limited time.
2017-07-27 00:04:26 +0000 UTCBrilliant :D

2017-07-05 04:58:47 +0000 UTCI just listened to this on the way to the barber shop and thought it was really interesting. As someone on the other side, as observer, rather than creator, it's really refreshing to hear a creator like Dan share his thoughts on these two formats. It definitely seems like YouTube, as a revenue source, is on the decline and I do like catching Dan 'live' on Twitch where the reinforcement of support is much more interactive and real-time. Will definitely continue to catch as many low key streams as possible in addition to watching all videos on the main and toys channel.

2017-07-02 11:42:28 +0000 UTCDan, what you make definitely has worth. People like you and the stuff you put out, they like rebecca, matt, jay etc. It makes people happy and it takes their focus off of their days of whatever for those 20-ish minutes.

2017-06-26 23:22:23 +0000 UTCThe both of us, maybe? Hell, I must've watched the Space Engineers series about 10 times.
2017-06-18 07:41:24 +0000 UTCThe 16th of may is my birthday and now I feel bad ahaha
2017-06-17 18:26:12 +0000 UTCGo get sponsorships we really would rather you sell out and stick around than die whilst staying "pure"

2017-06-13 05:23:11 +0000 UTCPlease Please Please allow sponsored content on your channel! If you love the game/thing then it would be perfectly fine!

2017-06-11 07:04:24 +0000 UTCHey Dan, would you consider another GTA V challenge-type video? I'd love to see another first-person only GTA video like you did for the PS4 version video.
2017-06-08 00:09:37 +0000 UTCTwitch Prime has just been made available to subscribers of Amazon Prime Video, which is available in over 200 countries unlike Amazon Prime which is only available in a few. I'm not sure how many subscribers Prime Video has, but this should boost revenue from Twitch Prime subscribers even further.
2017-06-06 12:06:18 +0000 UTCMeh, I don't really use Twitch (mostly because of times zones, literally no one I follow streams when I'm at home), but I've upped my Patreon donation instead. Also; who seriously uses Trending on Youtube?

2017-06-05 20:15:42 +0000 UTCActually, I think your massive US ad revenue was mostly just me.
2017-06-05 15:46:44 +0000 UTCI didn't even realize Amazon had the twitch prime thing. I don't really spend much time on twitch, but I'm now subscribed with my amazon prime account.

2017-06-05 14:27:04 +0000 UTC"... my work might be worth something" - yes it is Dan. You may be egomaniacal everything-hating cynical tw@ but that's the reason why I (we) love your content and like you. And that's the reason why (or how) I found you/subbed to you at Youtube. Because you make brilliant jokes (I still laugh to this date from Bus Driver Song) and you deliver them perfectly + your work (not only videos) is great. Majority of other Youtubers could learn a thing or two from you.

2017-06-04 23:34:06 +0000 UTCIt would jeopardize his integrity and It may look like he has to say nice things about the company because they won't like him talking shit about them even when they might deserve it.

2017-06-04 19:41:17 +0000 UTCYour US Youtube side crashing is weird and ridiculous. Are you still talking to Hank Green? Has he been able to help at all? I'm happy to support you here and on Twitch. For reference, I'm in the US. I just joined Youtube Red two months ago, but I've been watching folks on there since, I don't know, at least 2010. But until you said something the last few weeks, I hadn't thought about the fact that I don't remember getting ads on your videos for at least a while before I joined Red, while I was definitely getting them on others (the uptick in unskippable long ads was part of the reason I finally gave in on Red). Beyond that - your videos still show up in my subscription box just fine and I'm certainly watching them all, and I've never gotten unsubscribed. So from this end of the US Youtube viewer equation, I don't know what to tell you. We're still here! I, for one, will follow you wherever you go. I've been loving the low-key Twitch streams, especially the last few with Rebecca. They are way more fun when I can catch them live and be in the chat, but I also watch the replays of the ones done when I've been out. At the same time, you are also a clear winner in videos saved to my favorites on Youtube, and I would miss those so much. Anyway, hope you find a mix/place/thing that gets you back to comfortable and happy.

2017-06-04 19:16:34 +0000 UTCSee, twitch is alright, but it doesn't work on my browser. So I would say that you should stream on Twitch and Youtube at the same time, but Twitch prohibits partnered channels from streaming on other sites, so you'd be violating their terms of service, and wouldn't be allowed to earn from them. Oh well, just means I can't watch your streams. I'd like to, but that doesn't really matter in the big picture, so I guess that just doesn't matter.

2017-06-04 17:49:32 +0000 UTCI'm so glad Twitch is helping out in this flood of avenue losses, really looking forward to more streams from you Dan!

2017-06-04 17:07:34 +0000 UTCi used to watch this youtuber called VoV but he stopped putting content out as youtube fucked him over and he had to get a proper job
2017-06-04 16:29:30 +0000 UTCYou should make a video advertising your streaming so that more people will watch and subscribe. Also you should add a link to your videos.

2017-06-04 16:20:25 +0000 UTCWhat if you're not getting ads on your videos in the US because of all the wrestling videos on your channel? Would explain why it's a US only problem! Thought this after your tweet about US YouTube deeming wrestling isn't "advertiser friendly".

2017-06-04 15:41:42 +0000 UTCI think this might be an issue from the US. Just blame Trump, everyone else does

2017-06-04 15:00:54 +0000 UTCThis is more than a little disturbing, especially since YT is notorious for their lack of communication with content creators. Unfortunately I recently have cleared out or downgraded almost all my patreons due to my own financial difficulties. I will happily throw my twitch prime sub your way, though.
Josh (destofworlds)
2017-06-04 14:53:22 +0000 UTCDan, I think it's possible to upload videos to twitch. If so, why not upload the edited plays videos to twitch as well as youtube?

2017-06-04 14:51:48 +0000 UTCCan't you make some deal with these AAA companies where they sort of pay you and still let you run the channel as you would like?

2017-06-04 14:16:54 +0000 UTCI've started to think that Youtube might start to crash a bit like a stock market. Or the middle Youtubers will be squeezed out.
2017-06-04 13:55:26 +0000 UTCI did not know it didn't renew every month... oops. Thanks for letting me know
2017-06-04 13:49:59 +0000 UTCSame. They've just kind of diminished for me too
2017-06-04 13:01:34 +0000 UTCGet an Amazon Affiliate link! I seem to remember Linus Tech Tips saying they get a significant portion of their revenue from that (like 40%)
Aaron Place
2017-06-04 12:58:58 +0000 UTCIt's odd... I'm in America, and I've also noticed something: I get less ads on Youtube in general, and especially on your channel. Recently, I binge watched one of your older permadeaths, and I cannot think of a single ad popping up. Very odd indeed.
2017-06-04 12:51:18 +0000 UTCAlso, I never used to watch twitch. I'd happily move over if you were to drop some youtube vids and did more on twitch.
John Garvey
2017-06-04 12:48:05 +0000 UTCYouTube's algorithm is now being run by "AI"... is that something to do with it maybe? LinusTechTips made a point recently where they purposefully made their thumbnails and titles more clickbaity because they saw their subscriber numebrs dropping, so they had to change things up a bit.
John Garvey
2017-06-04 12:45:34 +0000 UTCOh god dammit Dan, now you're making me want to stop making videos and move to Twitch...

2017-06-04 12:36:36 +0000 UTCI actualy prefer these audio version. Because reading is hard :)

2017-06-04 12:25:13 +0000 UTCWell just go straight to the following page on twitch, no adverts there. Just people you follow. Or go directly to the channel you wanna watch
Sophie Wyllie
2017-06-04 12:16:53 +0000 UTCI love the recent twitch streams with you and Rebecca. They're so calm and nice, and you seem to genuinely enjoy it. And that's (in my opinion) when you do your best work!
Agrajag
2017-06-04 12:09:27 +0000 UTCThe thing is, they only adding these to compete with Twitch. It's obvious because it's only attached to the livestream side that hardly anyone uses. It's not even a better deal, it's just a corporation trying to match another with no equivalent for the main video making side.
Nerd³
2017-06-04 11:49:16 +0000 UTCThe extra twitch subscriber tier as far as I know allow you to grant these moneybags one or two extra emotes to use in chat. There might be a few settings to give them less chat restrictions than others, but that's basically it.
2017-06-04 11:45:03 +0000 UTCThat happened about a month and a half ago and we took a huge hit. This problem is different and US specific (when most of the companies that pulled out were UK companies) and, as far as I can see, exclusive to my channel.
Nerd³
2017-06-04 11:32:45 +0000 UTCDoes this mean he's recording this with his nips out?
Douglas Hodgson
2017-06-04 11:00:23 +0000 UTCThis ad-drop from the US comes from the fact that hundreds of companies are pulling their ads from youtube, making you earn less ad-income. Also the drop in viewers may come from the proposed theory that the youtube algorithm is set to promote videos that make more money, as that would be a reasonable and measurable point-system for an algorithm to follow. Youtubers who get their videos demonetized also quickly notice that those videos get much less promoted and recommended in the youtube browser. (seeing this via the video statistics, as you're familiar with). Do mind that nobody really understands the algorithm used by youtube to promote content, and that it's just speculation. However advertisers are in fact pulling their ads from youtube in its entirety, not just non-advertiser friendly content, as I'm sure you've heard.
2017-06-04 10:38:25 +0000 UTCIf you twitch stream you should record and post it to youtube as well. This means viewers who missed the stream for any reason dont miss out on content. It also means even though it would be a small amount extra it would double dip your income on one lot of work.
Samuel Hammond
2017-06-04 10:35:56 +0000 UTCI would make this post public so those who aren't supporting get a further understanding as to why it is so important. I know you've mentioned it on a number of video's but a concentrated audio stream without the distraction of a game would get the point across to those interested enough to listen. I support you on here as well as on twitch with my prime subscription but as that doesn't auto renew each month I may have missed a month, mainly due to your Wednesday evening streams not happening and your other streams of late being a hours when I'm either at work or asleep. I know things happen which means the streams can't happen but have you thought of trying to do them on other day's of the week? Or let Matt take the reigns and have another member of the Nerdcubed staff join him and Jon on a Wednesday? Not heard much from Tracey, Wot or Steve on a stream for a long while.

2017-06-04 10:35:00 +0000 UTCAudio patreon posts are awesome, might be worth considering doing a 50/50 split of written and talking things for your regular updates.

2017-06-04 10:21:38 +0000 UTCSorry but I hate Twitch, I go to Twitch and instantly spammed with adverts and streams I am not interested in. Having checked why is YouTube Red available in Australia and not the UK, I still watch a lot of content on YouTube (Not the trending BS) and I actually would probably pay for it as I wouldn't mind paying not to have adverts on (It pisses me off people pay £30 or more for things like Sky Sports and they have the cheek to still spam it full of advertising and marketing BS)
Christopher Smith
2017-06-04 10:20:06 +0000 UTCI didn't realise just how much Patreon helped you (I came for the ad block amnesty), so will increase donation because damn it feels good to help someone, however little.
