Character Updates: Izzy, Detective Rodriguez, Mrs. Mills

I've been working on updating some of the character models for the next chapter and right now, here are the updates that I am mostly happy with. Old model is on top, new model is on the bottom.

Izzy I pretty much just changed the shader. I had her set on an older shader and it was making her skintone not look correct. Now, it is set correctly and I'm pretty happy with the result.

About Me: Dungeons & Dragons

Like video games, I think that D&D has been a huge factor in shaping who I am. I heard about D&D when I was younger, but didn't really know what is was. I grew up in the South during the midst of the Satanic Panic, so D&D was a no-no in my house. It was basically devil-worship.

Chapter 3 Roadmap

I've been really excited about making this post, because I'm very excited about Chapter 3. There's a bunch of big things happening in this chapter that are going to make the game much better, I think. Let's talk about them.

Character Focus: Gertrude

Gertrude is the guidance counselor at Skyhill University, where you currently go to school. She is very good at her job, showing great interest in all of her student's success. She's older than you by about ten years, and is married, but that doesn't seem to stop her from flirting with you. 

In a future chapter, you'll be able to go to her office to talk to her about things in your life. She always loves to lend an ear to her students.

I love video games. I play a game for a little bit almost every day. Character Focus: Ms. Welch

 Ms. Welch is your Social Studies teacher. She's younger than any of your other teachers, and single, barely out of college herself. She is outspoken and passionate about young people being involved in politics and is easily angered at the current state of the country. She is the definition of a "Social Justice Warrior" and damn proud of it.  

My Schedule

Wednesday Update: Chapter 2

Character Focus: Mrs. McGee

Mrs. McGee is your English teacher at school and you stare at her most of the class, completely mesmerized by her looks to the point that you lose track of what she is trying to teach. She seems to be a bit hippy-ish in her beliefs, talking frequently about spiritualism and how were all connected.

Come Home Principles

On Mondays I'm just going to post my thoughts about myself, or the game, or whatever, and today I want to talk about where the ideas for Come Home came from and what my principles are around the game. 

When I first started writing the game, I wrote out a simple concept: 

"An adult game that is a dating simulator involving time-management and minigames, where you play a character who develops many relationships while trying to solve the disappearance of his father."

Adrian is a student who shares a desk with you in your Social Studies class. She doesn't talk much, but when she does, she seems snarky, sarcastic, and fun. You don't know much about her, but you're curious to see what she's hiding under those baggy clothes that she wears every day, even in the summer.

Wednesday Update: Chapter 2

Hey everybody. Here's a little preview image of a scene from Chapter 2, along with a status update. I've been working hard all week on creating the environments, characters, poses, lighting, then rendering and photoshopping everything. So most of what I've done this week has been on the visual side instead of writing and programming. I got a ton of the renders done though. Just a few left, then the animations, which I have posed already.

Character Focus: Kendra

Kendra is a thrill-seeker, who always seems to be happy. She dresses in flashy clothes, does flashy moves on her skateboard, talks loudly, and laughs often. She's outgoing, friendly, and doesn't have much of a filter on the things she talks about. She can often be found skating in the park with her friends during the day. 

Not much else is known about her right now, but you'd definitely like to learn more about her.

Dana changes

I figured this would happen a few times throughout the development process, though hopefully not too much as it creates a lot more work for me. I hadn't been happy with the way that Dana looked from the beginning, so I decided to completely change her character model. Now I have to go back and re-render all the images that she was in previously with her new look. That'll be an ongoing process and may not be completely done by the time the next chapter comes out, though I think it will be.&nbs...
