Patreon prompts me to "tell a story" everytime I make a description for one of these posts. So let me tell you a story lmao. Beware that it might get a lil personal. CW for mentioning depresso things, even if it's just a little bit.
In July last year (that being 2021) I was working on a piece commissioned by two very special friends of mine, Max and Mathias. It was on about the 17th of said month that I began to feel a strange tingle in my forefinger whenever I would try and paint away...

My first nsfw commission for Wyrm! It's been very interesting exploring galaxies and such. For now I have little interest in painting nebulae in all their mind-boggling glory, but I admit it's beautiful. What I wanted for this picture was an effect of translucent-glowing textile. The issue I encountered with this idea was a lack of strong direction, but it's still quite pretty and didn't eat too much time. Wyrm's instruction to make the penis a light source was very good. Now that I look at t...

This is my first painting since July! came together quickly and was very satisfying to make. Heck ye. Essentially, I just started with a rough sketch, refined the drawing loosely, and then instead of inking, my brain went . . . 'maybe I should do the colour early . . .maybe I can skip the lining . . .' So I asked Nix and bravely progressed. I am so happy I did. My painting has gotten better after all this time. Thank you so much for just givin me that freedom Nix. Without feeling free, this w...

Abstract backgrounds are so much more my jam than I thought. When you go over the top just a little, it's hella fun. And going over the top in earnest? Heck ye. In this picture in particular, I think I discovered the joy of not giving a damn about the leaves. They began as an attempt at quick, simplified foliage -- and now look at them! Some of them are b l u e rectangles. I really didn't give a damn, huh! It was so fun too. In the future, I want to approach Klimt a little more.

Kesik was very lenient when it came to this piece. And several other people have told me that it is, in fact, not bad. Nonetheless, my eyes immediately wander off the decent anthropomorphic figure, the satisfactory eggplant -- and stare elsewhere. Such as that telegram screenshot that it took me about 15 years to create. I really should have just taken the offer of my friend and recreate the chat, then screenshot it. But nooo, Theo had to go all the way. Lmao.
This picture took longer ...

What is necessary and what is excessive? What slows me down, makes me uncertain and unproductive? The more I think about it, the harder this question gets to answer. But I think I have once again been confronted with unproductive behaviour, and now it's on me to stomp on it and kill it with a dozen rapid strikes of my rusty little money trowel. Spiderman-newspaper-slap-style.
The figure fell into place within record time, save for the paw, but there was some sense of obligation now to ...

Another one for ye olde Narga, Orion, owned by Arashiin, plus a messy alt :) He was very patient and kind with me as always, helping as much as he could to convey the changes he wanted made to the drawing in its stages of development.
I know it's not an easy subject to talk about for me publicly, but it can be a little difficult following instructions when it's always been my urge with art to be free, have my own authority over pictures -- to an extent. It's part of the job ...

Edit: I have found the original file and uploaded high resolution exports. And yes, I'm a twat for not looking before just uploading ;)
Summary of what I wrote before: I'm proud because it's cleaner than I've usually painted stuff before. Could be a really nice way to start a painting.
Especially the background came together very naturally and quickly. Blame it on me growing up in the country for the first few years, but I was very comfortable doing it. Just a couple beams...

The eternal evasion of P4+r30N F1L+3r5 continues with my unique exercises in spelling. This one's a close-up for Dagor. Always a joy to do a felky boy, I feel like I get them done the fastest now. Must be the enthusiasm! Hahaha.

How smoothly can a picture go! It was such fun doing this for Ash, who is using this as a teaser for what's to c o m e. He's getting a new Aerusan, and I'm gettin a new a r o u s i n. No apologies for this one.
Am I allowed to be proud from time to time? Sure, the lines for the plates needed a little refinement and I took longer than I needed to with the colouring (because it was fun!), but the underbelly blush, the tentative blue veins around the center of attention, the softness of i...

Experimenting with poses, arranging with intuition, and just getting plain ol howny. That is what drove the first stage of this massive page of drawings. I often talk about speed and efficiency - not because I don't enjoy the process, but because I need to be fast to be a freelancer. And in some cases, in some ways, this page was very fast. I absolutely blazed through some of the sketching. Fun, requiring little little correction, feeling three-dimensional and anatomical without having an atl...

Cel-Shading seems to be anything that uses blending modes to modify a flat base colour. Because that is exactly what I did to this piece, and it really doesn't look like what I would expect a celshaded piece to look like. I just pulled out the Wikipedia article, and my suspicion is confirmed:
cell shading, or toon shading is a type of non-photorealistic rend...

Firstly, I want to say that Fable is so awesome for wanting to include this picture into their character‘s actual lore. It is as far removed from a literal representation as I could make it without chopping up perspective totally, so I‘ll be impressed once that has been accomplished. I mean, isnt a character metaphorical anyways? I think that‘d be delving too deep for an introduction though. But but but, secondly, as for the MEANING (which I love to premasticate because I am an insuffer...

Here we see my first engagement with the ever-interesting subject of hyper. I'd originally opened for genitalia close-ups, so this was still to be primarily focused on the goods, which is why I had a good time with this, actually. Contrary to my expectation, though, I spent most of my limited time on the bodies and proportions and poses. I'd say it was worth it because it's anthro practice.
I suppose it didn't help my "anthro practice" that I lost the reference for the poses ear...

This story begins . . . when? When I hopped into a challenge between friends to do some inktobers in 2020 and failed miserably? When I reentered this year with the determination to make it to the end? I don't think it's important, except for the fact that the prompt for this was "Memories." And it was the very last one on our list.
It's important because it's ironic. I hadn't counted the inktobers I had done up to that point, and many of them without a title or date. So by the end when...

It's me again! Some juicy stuff for Eliv the Mightyena, a very good commissioner to work with by the way ^^ I also just found out that my browser may choose to reload the page at any point, so I'm scared to be typing this description . . . I already lost it once. Maybe . . . I hit . . . cmd-r. Maybe. Hahahaha
Today I wanted to talk about the liquid, really. Because I pretty much painted it in. I really do want to be a good Felky boy and learn to do it quicker like some of my favorite a...

I can't really say since when I've been wanting to lean more into stained glass as a visual style to experiment with, but it's been at least three or four years. As you can see, I've still got to work on the realism. But I had so much fun. It was gratifying as hell to be looking at some of my favorite art, just for reference. Even if I had more than a few adjustments to make, I was happy all the way through.
Stained glass, of course, is made from pieces of coloured and cut glass that ...

This is the best "celshade" I've pulled off so far. Everything you see in this picture is manipulated with blending modes and all that fancy stuff, and I absolutely loved being in such control with everything reversible so easily. Felt like taking the weights off a bit :P Just like Pharus here seemed to take a load off on Theo's backside. Whew.
