Back in business

I found the issue with the treble loss which started to occur recently with my microphones. The problem were the dust cover stickers which I removed for one of my units. Obviously the glue somehow started to “age” or cover the openings. After removing it I gained nearly 20dB of treble in the highest frequencies as visible from the measurements.

Now I will have to adjust my compensation for this to get reliable results again but at least I can continue recording with these microphone...

Dockin D Fine +2 give away

Not sure how many are really interested in getting this speaker, therefore just leave a comment.

It’s an unopened unit I got directly from Dockin together with another unit which was the one I used in my videos.

I am not sure if it’s an original packed unit, I rather assume it’s some internal sample they sent me.

I had to use Mike this time, I hope you can still get an idea about how they both sound compared.

Please tell me which kind of videos you prefer, as I think that a recording with an artificial head will offer a better representation of the actual loudness.

Should arrive this week. I ordered one as so many asked about it and I always liked the Onyx series since the very first Onyx many years ago which still had Wifi included and looked just like this one here.

Tronsmart Studio - test

This is just a rough cut of my upcoming video with no labels and no insertions/measurements etc. But I am not sure if there isn't already too much hiss due to the stronger high frequency boost necessary.

Bad news

Here some measurements of the HD600 before and after my ear cleaning together with my old measurements I did some months ago. Although the peaks have shifted and align better to what I had measured some months ago, there is a significant loss of high frequenices now, which must be a result of the microphone capsules having "aged"? I have no other explanation for this, but as I have another backup unit with the same capsules, I noticed the same issue with those as well, although I haven't used...

I did some measurements before and after ear cleaning which I will post tomorrow.

I tried doing some measurements of the Austrian Audio Hi-X15 which arrived yesterday, but I am having some problems which are probably related to my ear-canals getting blocked. I attached a measurement of the HD600 I did some months ago (on top) and for comparison done now (below).

You can see that there is a big difference especially the deviation between left and right became larger. I already noticed it during my recent recordings that I am getting a slight imbalance but didn't pay m...

Minirig Mini 2 - still great?

Because many complained I didn’t include the Minirig Mini in my pocket sized video. The only reason is that it’s not quite pocket sized for me just like the Sonos Roam. But if I had to choose one between these 2 I would definitely go with the Sonos, although 2 Minirig Minis playing in stereo will outperform the Sonos again…

JBL Partybox 110 vs VIFA Helsinki

If you can compete with VIFA you are the king…

I wanted to put these 2 speakers side by side just for fun but actually I am quite surprised about the fight both are having here. I did without any labels here as you can always hear perfectly which one is playing at the given moment.

This is also my last concluding video about the JBL Partybox 110, I think everything was said and done to demonstrate the qualities of this speaker.

JBL Partybox 110 - frequency response measurements

I measured both PB110 and PB100 side by side at the same time to get exactly comparable results.

Thanks for pointing out the JBL Partybox app. It seems my unit is already up to date. For those hoping there could be an update changing the tuning of the bass, right now it doesn’t seem so.

Best pocket sized portable speaker

I had planned to do this video long ago when the VIFA City was released. For this purpose I even bought the P2 again and had measured most of these speakers here. I will try to find these measurements again and will show them in a separate post.

Holiday vlog #8 - waves 2

This was recorded again with the AMBEO headset and proves that the AMBEO headset has some issues with recording the frequency spectrum correctly as the result sounds quite grainy and resonant apart from the strong wind which also compromised the quality.

I am curious if an equalized version I will try doing by ear when I am back home will sound more realistic. I will also try to apply MatchEQ to get an even better result. I will post all versions for comparison.

Unfortunately only bad mono sound here as I had to take the audio track from the camera for this video as my external recorder had stopped recording on its own right in the middle.

I shot a better take with binaural sound the next day together with my son which I will post after our return.

Holiday vlog #6 - boat trip

Recorded with iPhone and AMBEO headset. I also made some other recordings on the boat with my usual equipment while wearing my wind protection which should hopefully result in better audio quality than here as due to all the wind the recording became unusable at higher speeds and I had to stop.
