JBL Partybox 110 - frequency response measurements

I measured both PB110 and PB100 side by side at the same time to get exactly comparable results.

This time I measured both at around 2/3 volume as opposed to 50% back then when I measured the PB100 for the first time, so maybe there is already some bass reduction active as the current measurements show less bass than before: https://www.patreon.com/posts/jbl-partybox-100-40993422?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copy_to_clipboard&utm_campaign=postshare

As usual both were measured with all bass modes placed elevated at 1m from a distance of 50cm with the microphone placed centered with the tweeters. Therefore the PB110 seems to have less treble response, which is a result of the tweeters being tilted outwards. I also made additional measurements with both directly placed at the ground from a distance of 1m. And I also measured the PB110 from different angles to demonstrate the change in treble response when not listened exactly on axis.

The PB110 has considerably more bass response in all modes, already the default mode without bass boost is slightly too bassheavy for my taste, especially with too much response above 100hz. The 1st bass boost mode seems to already boost below 250hz on the PB110, while it only boosted below 150hz on the PB100, this is the main difference in bass, which is also the reason why the PB110 appears so boomy. I won't comment the 2nd bass boost mode as it is simply ridiculous with a 12dB boost at 250hz... just unusable!

Pity for that strong boomy base boost, otherwise it would be a nicer base with that 7dB extra power around 40Hz, it is also clearly hearable.

thank you oluv, this content is exactly why i am a patreon :)

It’s measured automatically but I wouldn’t take it too seriously due to the noise floor outdoors.

Thank you very much for the work done! Tell me, do you measure distortion when measuring frequency response? It would be equally interesting to see the graph

The 110 is quite disappointing regarding bass, just like you say. I realize you get a lot of requests regarding speakers to review, but the new H&K onyx studio 7 would seem to be pretty interesting. Have you thought about getting a unit (for loan perhaps)?

If I can get hold of a unit somehow

Hi Oluv. Do You plan to do review of the new Partybox 310?

I’m a lot disappointed by this P110 because i expected about 3-4 db more in loudness, slighty deeper bass with more power without that boominess… i don’t know what jbl was thinking… they ask more money for worse stuff The 310 is a great improvement over the 300 with deeper and more powerful bass, 5db louder and way better treble They should do the same with the 110

Thanks a lot!

This is why I love subscribing here.... Thanks Oluv!
