Dragonsthorp

Heya everyone... here it is :-)
Thor has smiled upon me and permitted me just enough sunlight to feed my laptop via the solar panel to get this uploaded and released into the wild today

Dragonsthorp is the 1st of 6 settlement maps suggested by Patreon Supporters in October. This little Viking themed settlement on a river bend was suggested by SirLittleDragon - which is why, for a lack of imagination, I called it Dragonsthorp

Here, there is a cliff on the oth...

Hidden Vale

A huge 60x60 battlemap

Here we go... after nearly 50 hours of growing this huge map out of nothing, I am quite pleased with how it turned out and hope that it will inspire some interesting plots or encounters in your games :-)

Hidden Vale is a rocky valley at the downstream end of a small river canyon in hilly walking  trail country, you are going to struggle to get a cart through here,  however you are definitely going to find a ...

Fire in the Dark

This started life as an abstract painting ... when it was finished, I realised that it would make for a great encounter location, perhaps a place to battle fire sprites?
... So here it is... something dramatic to light up a dark place with

Wild Pool

Or is it sometimes a portal? Perhaps only at night? and if you jump in, where does it go to? .... Perhaps to a parallel world that has the same landscape, but a different climate? Or to a different time at the same location?

I had a big backing up session the other day and found this map lurking up a forgotten corner... seemed like it is about time to dust it off and set it on its way to find an adventure to be a part of.
I went a bit wild on variations for this one, so you guys are...

Just a little reminder :-)

Konrith

After brewing in for months, Konrith is ripe and ready to escape into the world :-)

This is a small unassuming town or perhaps the heart of an old  city, where the original gardens and orchards in the city center have  not been built over.
There are many small ally-ways, courtyards,  greenhouses, verandahs, a couple of ruins, extensions, roof-top terraces  ... And of course, the river (or canal) through the heart of it all,  with that 1 bridge as a choke poi...

Well of the Mind

Once again, the imaginative Jog Brogzin let me colour in one of his wonderful maps... This is Well of the Mind ....  Who's mind though?

There are 2 main versions. One with a stary space background and one with a rocky solid background.... and then a few different mood variation of each. Including a Greyscale version of each for home printing on a B&W printer.
We hope that you enjoy explorin...

September 2022 Shield Challenge

Heya!  .... Here they are

I ended up with 28 Item cards in all ... some are variations on a theme, some are 2 states of the same shield. So, basically 24 different shapes ... Not quite one for every day of the month of September, but close!

It was a good spontaneous break-out from drawing maps and I learnt a great deal about shading and painting different surfaces along the way. It seems like a great way to begin a slightly more creati...

Work in Progress

Good afternoon
It is nearly the middle of the month already.... not sure where it is flying away to!
To space out all these 'Spring cleaning' posts with something a bit more interesting, I thought I would show off a bit of what I have been working on recently ....

Sneak Peak at the the next 2 Settlement maps

These have both been cooking for a while now and I am glad to finally have some time for them…
The  left one is something a little different and is bas...

The Old Church Library

And here it is.... This one has been a long journey from woe to go
But is it complete. I love how it has turned out & I hope that you will find some interesting ways to put it to good use.

The scale is actually 2m per square (6 ft) but that is close enough to 5 ft that it shouldn't matter I hope ... ?

The church is at that scale because it was a commission. It can also be found on the Frostbur...

September Plots & Plans

Hiya Everyone … It is Spring here in the antipodes and I have once again been mentally-spring cleaning & re-calculating how to keep creating the maps I love and fit them in around my currently unpredictable life (being basically homeless & doing random house-sitting is not conducive to regular hours)…

The Short cut:

  • I am changing how my Patreon page works to hopefully suit my creativity method and unpredictable life better
  • I will be chan...

Bonus Map: Temple of the Sunken Queen

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Let all with eyes to read know that Jog Brogzin once again gave his blessing to my coloring of another of his maps... this gorgeous little sunken Temple in a mini-scene style ...

Once coloured... I could not resist messing around with a few variations :-)

August Plots and Plans

The Quick Skim

  • Probably no formal map releases this month due to a few commissions
  • Bonus map of cross-roads attached (20x20 @ 140pps)

The Nitty-Gritty

Commissions are still my 'bread & butter'....  I will be giving them all my focus time this month
.... and none of them are top-down settlement maps... shock horror  !!
Actually, I am rather enjoying the variety... But it means that there won't be any settlement maps to relea...

Nukshan Atoll Dock-Town

Out in the middle of the ocean, somewhere tropical, is an atoll  called Nukshan. Named for the Captain of the first crew to stumble upon  the haven and grind their storm-battered ship up the beach. Nukshan has  since grown into a small, yet busy, port town with traders docking almost daily, exchanging goods from other parts of the world and buying seafood from the 4 rival fishing guilds that call this small atoll home.  Nukshan has become a cross-roads in the ocean and has...

Plots & Plans _ July 2022

The little version:

  • I am still alive over here
  • The atoll dock-town of Nukshan has progressed... but still needs a LOT of trees before I can let it out of my sight
  • I have no idea when the next map will be out... Things are a bit up in the air for me at the moment... but it will probably be an encounter map of a 3-level library
  • You are all amazing

I am still alive! ... I know that I ha...

Harkenwell _ Bonus Map

Perhaps not far from Ashthorp, Harkenwell, home of the Green Falcon Tavern and Inn, is another quiet little village with a pond, snuggled at the base of a hill rising up to the moors and surrounded on the other 3 sides by hedge-rowed fields.

Seen on the Harkenwell town notice board:
This year, on the 5th to 10th days of May, the Green Falcon is h...

June Plots & Plans

The short version:

  • Half a month late... Bonus map of the village of Harkenwell will be out in the next few hours
  • Next paid release map, Nukshan, will be a floating/pontoon/jetty town in an atoll (WIP in header).... it may or may not be finished this month due to ongoing commission maps

The longer Version:

Not entirely sure what happened to May... it kind of melted away and drained out through the cracks in time. ... and somehow I forgot to post...

Bonus Map _ Damnable Dam

Hi everyone, This is a re-make of a little encounter area map I was commissioned to draw early last year... A dam at the confluence of 2 rivers in a park area, overlooked by 2 platforms... and no bridges in sight

May Plots & Plans

The terse bit

  • May is a Commissions month, so there probably won't be a formal 'paid' release this month
  • I do have a little village practice-map that will be out as a bonus map in a couple of weeks

The longer burble bit

Deveros Update:
I am going to take most of May to work on commissions, especially Deveros, as it is reaching crunch time on that, so I need to give it some TLC.  We have started to lay ou...

Work In Progress - The Dragonfly Cluster

Thought I would drop you all a line... just letting you know that I am still alive!
Progress on the realm of air map (The Dragonfly Cluster) continues in drips and drabs between assisting a family member who has been ill ...  they had an op a few weeks ago & have been home for 2 1/2 weeks now. They are starting to be able to do most things for themselves again now ... which is great, not just for them, but also for The Dragonfly Cluster map ...

Transparent Grid Overlay Tiles

A couple of Patreon supporters asked if I could make my hand drawn grids available as transparent overlays... so here they are available for anyone who needs them.

The difference between dpi and pixels per square/hex is messing with my head.

... but essentially, the '300/140/72dpi' in the file names is referring to how many horizontal pixels wide each cell in the grid is.
(the files themselves are all saved at 72dpi - which is generally only relevant if you ar...

April Plots and Plans

Now that we have got past the dreaded Fools day...  it's April news time.

Summary:

  • Realm of air settlement map planned for March didn't happen due to illness in the family (not me) .... It is in the works and will probably be the main and only Patreon funded release this month.

Bonus Map _ Village of Ashthorp

A quiet little village in the middle of farming country. Not even big enough to have a dedicated church yet.....

Where  they may or may not be having problems with the many-eyed creature that  in lives in the village pond. It used to be friendly, unfortunately, in  the last few months it has become more and more angry. Now no one dares  even step onto the village green....

Hemlock Hall

Hemlock Hall is set in a similar landscape to the last 2 map releases, Tamrin Crossing and New Hope...

It is set upon the cliff tops, with 2 small hamlets (Marshton & Haketon) in the marshy coastal land below. Hemlock town has grown up at the gates of the small manor house, which is set within its own walled grounds.
In the past the hall was the site of a small monastery, which may be the reason for the oval shape to the walled grounds...  Brier House, accessed only t...
