Jane freaking Addams

I've wanted to make this video for at least five years. Jane Addams is easily one of the most important figures in American history, and she simply does not get enough attention. This video is part of the #ProjectHerStory collaboration to celebrate Women's History Month, so since we're all stuck at home anyway, be sure to check out the entire playlist. :) https://www.youtube.com/playli...

Paul Revere was Overrated

When I went to Boston for a conference last November, I took advantage of being in one of the most historic cities in the United States and got some great footage. It was there I decided that I needed to clear up some myths about Paul Revere.

I even went to his house.

This one is also a collaboration with Mr. Betts. He helped me with some animations. Be sure to check out his new Pilgrims video as well when you're done watching this one.

Thank you for your continued sup...

Supreme Court Briefs - New Jersey v. T.L.O.

Supreme Court Briefs returns with an important case dealing with the 4th Amendment and student privacy at school. Can the principal really just search through a student's personal belongings? Find out in the latest episode of Supreme Court Briefs! Oh geez, I just sounded like a commercial there.

Thanks for your continued support!

A Brief History of Pixies

I just realized I forgot to share this with you the other day. It's a new video on my other channel, The Beat Goes On. The video has not done that well, and I think it's clear that I really don't care that much, since it was so much fun making it. I love the Pixies!

A new Supreme Court Briefs comes later tonight, assuming I don't get tired trying to finish it up.

Thank you all for your continued support!

March 19th meet up

I will be in Atlanta on March 19th. If you able to meet up with us that night (it will be around 7pm), please fill out the form so we can get a head count. Seating might be limited, so the sooner you can do this, the better!

Oh, and the Cynical Historian, Tristan from Step Back History, and Steve Heimler will be joining us. See you then!

I got sick...

I've had the flu since last Thursday. I just wanted to let you know I didn't forget about the livestream.

I crawled out of bed and feel slightly better today, though. I am planning on a livestream tonight at 9pm central. Feel free to join me then!

New video (Atlanta and Charlotte Compared) and livestream Friday night at 9pm central.

Hey everyone,

It's my first new Compared video since December. A shout out to Patreon supporter Eric B. Wolman for suggesting it!

Also, be sure to catch my Patreon-only livestream planned for Friday night at 9pm central. It will probably last 15-30 minutes. My plan is to give you a behind the scenes look at what I have been up to, and to answer any questions you may have. See you then!

Is the Iowa Caucus Overrated?

Well, this was unexpected. I drove up to Des Moines and made a video about the Iowa Caucuses. It was a collaboration with J.J. McCullough and a lot of fun. I hope you dig it!

Livestream update and Iowa caucuses

So it looks like Friday night works best for most of you. However, I cannot do tomorrow night this week since I have decided to head up to Des Moines for the Iowa caucus rallies. I will be filming a collaboration with J.J. McCullough and hopefully releasing a short explainer video about the Iowa caucuses on Sunday.

Sooo...it looks like I will aim for next Friday, February 7th for the Patreon livestream. Go Chiefs!

150k subscriber Patreon-only livestream times.

I recently passed 150,000 subscribers! Woahness!

To celebrate, I am planning a Patreon-only livestream some time in the next week or two. Please let me know which time you'd prefer. Or be blunt- let me know if you're not interested in the livestream.

Basically, I'd show you all what I've been working on (a little behind the scenes excitement), and answer any questions you might have.

Why do India and Pakistan Hate Each Other?

It's the return of State Rivalries, but this time we're going outside the United States. The Cynical Historian already posted his video early for his patrons, too. He looked at the looonnngg rivalry between England and France.

Thank you for your continued support!

In other news, I am planning on a Patreon-supporter only livestream for 150,000 subscribers. Stay tuned!

Taking an 8th grade graduation test from 1895

Patreon supporter John Johnson wanted me to take an 8th grade graduation test from 1895 and share how I did by turning it into a little educational video, so here it is.

This video was definitely a bit different than my usual kind of videos. What do you think about it? I have another more vlog-like type video planned for the summer about Dwight Eisenhower.

Thanks to John for the video suggestion, and thanks to all of you for your continued support!

A Brief History of the Beatles

Hey everyone!

I just released a new video on my other channel, The Beat Goes On. Mrs. Beat thinks I should release these videos on my Mr. Beat channel, but I have resisted. I'm curious as to what you think? Anyway, I hope you enjoy this one. A new Mr. Beat video is coming next Friday. Have a great weekend, and thanks for the continued support. :D

Best 10 American Governors

Here are my top 10 governors in American history. It's the long awaited sequel to my Worst Governors video. Thanks to Patreon supporter Elcaspar for requesting it! I think I accidentally left him off in the credits in this video, ironically, but at least I gave him a shout out.

Slowly but surely I will get to the rest of the requests. If I told you a video would come out at a certain time, please note that it probably will be at a later date, especially since I will be release eve...

How Animal Guts Gutted the 14th Amendment | The Slaughterhouse Cases

Supreme Court Briefs returns, beginning with an important decision that most Americans don't know about. It started with animal guts in the drinking water of New Orleans. It ended with a very narrow interpretation of the 14th Amendment that stood for decades.

Thanks to Kit Walker for suggesting this one. Kit's also a government teacher, by the way!

Thank you all for your continued support. I've been going a 100mph for weeks now, so I will only do a livestream at some point in the ...

John Brown Explained

Who was John Brown? Was he a hero or terrorist? The answer is not so simple. In this documentary, I examine the life and times of the most (in)famous abolitionist in history.

This topic was suggested by Patreon supporter Cjkavy. Great suggestion!

Also, I got to film on location, so that always makes the process much more fun for me. Plus, I got to interview a John Brown expert.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I continue to be very THANKFUL for your support!

What is "left wing?" What is "right wing?" Political spectrums explained.

I learned a lot researching this one. I've always been fascinated with how people label themselves and their "opponents" politically, so this one answers a lot of questions I've had for most of my life. It's also a collaboration with the channel This is Barris! Be sure to check out his channel as well!

Can You Start A Country In Antarctica?

Good news everyone! I'm starting a country.

But seriously, since it is starting to get cold out (well, for many of us), what better time to release a video about the coldest place on Earth? This one was fun to make, AND it's a collaboration with AlternateHistoryHub. Cody's video isn't done yet, but once it is I'll post a link here or there or both places. And it looks like this one won't go live to the public until Saturday.

Seattle and Vancouver Compared

So I've been really behind lately. School has been crazy busy, but here is my latest Compared video. You are getting it 45 minutes early. I'm sorry, I was supposed to get it done a couple days ago but life.

This one is a collaboration with J.J. McCullough. If you don't know who he is, he's basically the Canadian version of me with cooler hair and a more hip fashion style. We got to hang out at Vidcon last summer, and I'm so happy to finally collaborate with him.

Thank you so...

One of the first videos I made for my channel was about Plessy v. Ferguson. You can watch it here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87yyfX0HnaU

I've come a long way since then production-wise. Also, that original video had errors, like showing a picture of someone that I said was Homer Plessy who actually wasn't. For this new video, I actually was in touc...
