Is the Iowa Caucus Overrated?

2020-02-05 14:48:05 +0000 UTCI'm glad that someone still uses the caucus model, for several reasons. Official state support of a primary seems a little rediculous. Elections are expensive and subject to fraud. They are nessesary for many things, but helping a political party choose a candidite just seems like an uneeded stretch for precious state resources. Both poltical parties have a convention, where the results of these Primarys and Caucuses are formalized anyway. In a caucus, convention delegates rise from the ranks of "normal" poltically active people. And that leads me to my last point, if you don't want to sit through the process of attending a caucus that's up to you, but at this stage in the process, I think it's fair that only those with an interest strong enough to compell them to show up at a an actual meeting, should have a greater say in who becomes the party candidate.
