2024-03-23 02:48:38 +0000 UTCI’ve totally gone through the sous vide -> instant pot -> air fryer pipeline of trying to use gadgets to make myself get more interested in cooking. But the fact that the air fryer also makes frozen stuff better with very little effort, if nothing else, is going to give it staying power. Also I can second Liz’s experiences with Quora emails. I regularly get sent absolutely the most unhinged/horrifying things possible from them. I don’t know what their algorithm thinks I’m interested in exactly, but it can’t be anything good.

2024-03-23 01:32:03 +0000 UTCI have an Instant Pot, I've used it on a weekly basis, if not more, for years now, and I've never had a problem with it. I made a wonderful lentil soup today, in fact. (Fun fact: Thomas Pynchon worked for Boeing while he was writing Gravity's Rainbow - after which he kept on the move for almost 20 years following it's publication. You can make of that what you will in regards to the Boeing stuff going on recently, if there is a there there. Who's to say.)

2024-03-22 22:09:06 +0000 UTCas someone who experienced both band and orchestra directors in high school (french horn for concert band and then whenever there was a piece that she wanted to do a full orchestra with): spot on. i have never met meaner, more critical people than band directors (affectionately), and orchestra directors always are super on your ass and then at the end they go "😭you all sound great". i remember one band teacher having such a notoriously short fuse that the class clowns would see who could do the most minor thing that would set him off

The first day of school, I had study hall in his room and asked if I could borrow a text book or dictionary to start on my BIO II homework (a vocabulary packet) and he said "I can't provide you with the materials to do YOUR work" my man, that's actually your job!?!?! He also refused to teach evolution and tried to tell me Girl Scouts was immoral and he was never buying cookies from them again, so I told him not to worry, he didn't give me the money yet so he hadn't actually bought any from me and then I ate that man's cookies in front of him during class
