Stuff that I am doing - 28/06/19

Hello. I thought text was a better fit this time.

So I haven't got a video to show you this week but I do have a news and should have a couple of bits over the weekend.

I was originally going to cover Last of the Time Lords as part of a He Who Moans video called "Shit Episodes of Doctor Who that I quite like" but ended up just watching the whole season 3 finale and writing a video review of Utopia / Sound of Drums / last of the time lords - I should be able to get it done by the end of the weekend.

I'll try and get back to doing Big Finish reviews after my holiday at the end of July. I kinda wanna keep under their radar until I've definitely lost the short trips contest this year. I'll buy some releases and take em on holiday and do something when I get back.

I'll probably do that TV Dissection on Reality TV after this HWM season 3 finale video. I mostly wanted to do the season 3 finale video now because it was Years and Years that made me wanna watch it again and people keep asking about He Who Moans cause I haven't done one in a while.

Anyway next bit of news: myself, Jon, Billy and Richard watched the first part of Torchwood Children of Earth together. I'll put it up on drive over the weekend. I'm gonna try and put it together as like a half hourlong 10th anniversary review of Children of Earth. (Its TEN years old!! Fucking Christ that fact makes me feel ancient!) It made sense to do it before subjecting myself to Miracle Day for the first time which'll probably happen later in the year. This one is even more irreverent than usual cause what do you make fun of when you're watching something as good as this?

Other news: I had two short story acceptances to anthologies this week! I know, two! But like the pessimistic downer that I am, I'm just focusing on the one rejection I got because it really pissed me off (it was the Easter story and it was to an anthology series that Rob's been in before. I wanted to be in something Rob had been in dammit!!)

So the stories that got into publications that you'll hear more about closer to publication are:

Unambitious Time Travel - a story about a company that creates time travel as an app on your phone but because of the complexities of rewriting history, all you can really do with it is unburn a bit of toast or catch a train that you missed.

The Yes/No Machine - a country elects as their leader, a small plastic box that just says "Yes" or "no" to all proposed legislation - yes it was a direct result of my idea of electing a magic eight ball to lead a country.

I've also come up with and written a new story for the book that I forgot to mention that I'm thinking about trying to get published as a novella first. Its called 'Machines of God' and its sorta like a super-Christian 1984. Its set in a small village where there's a machine that can see inside people's heads and see their impure thoughts and the impure ones a sacrificed on harvest day. Its from the perspective of a girl going through puberty who's struggling to stop herself from having impure thoughts, but then she finds a library hidden at the heart of the village where people have hidden their impure thoughts in a place that the machine can't see. I imagine it as like this profane Enid Blyton book with really cutesy and saccharine illustrations as this girl wanders through and browsing the villagers' impure thoughts.

Anyway after The Season 3 finale He Who Moans and TV Dissection on Reality TV, I'll probably leave doing more videos until I'm back from holiday. (Unless I hit 10K and do that special before then, if not then after). Its not that I'm short of ideas, but my mental health's been a bit up and down lately, one day I'm fine, one day I'm not, so I kinda don't feel up to doing much more than what I've got on the table at the moment.

Anyway, happy weekend everyone

Stu
