Very Early Sketchbooks! Very Very Early Sketchbooks! Very Very Very Early Sketchbooks!

Okay! You've been warned. Never judge a book by it's cover, except this one sketchbook from my High School days. Because if you did accidentally open this sketchbook, you would be bombarded with a whole bunch of nonsense.

This is what my visual art brain looked like in high school...

Lots of patterns and pen and ink stuff.  This is when I discovered the PILOT v5 Hi-Techpoint pen.  Which is still my ink pen of choice when I'm writing/drawing.  My daughters gift me a box of these pens for Christmas every year.  It's the "no brainer dad gift" that they know I'll always appreciate and use.

In high school I was also playing around a lot with drawing one-panel comics. like this: (wah waahh)

or this...

or this...

ba-dum tsssss! yuk yuk yuk. Jokes and non-jokes aside, I actually like the canteloupe characters in this one. May have to bring that back for a future project.  I mean, look at that texture!

Anyhow, just a silly little thing for a Friday!

In other news, we'll be hosting our first ROBOT HOUSE PARTY!  A virtual version of our ROBOT DANCE PARTY! It will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 4pm Gulf Standard Time.  (Kind of early for the  North America but pretty schedule friendly for those of you in UK, EU, Australia, Japan). It will be the kick off event of NYU Abu Dhabi's 2020 Fall Season.

It's FREE and open to everyone, so please feel free to share the link with anyone who wants to get down to some Robo Electro.

The event is 1h20 min. First hour is for building robot suits together (keep those recycled cardboard boxes!), the last 20 minutes is the dance party led by Vinyl Vaudeville's Adira Amram and Maresa D'Amore Morrison. They'll be your Robot Dance Captains as I'll be scratching up an electro vocoder set for you to dance to!

PLUS! We spent the last month figuring out a way where everyone can join us on screen too so we'll be Robot Rocking on the same virtual dance floor together! Whaaaat?!! Here's the link to book your FREE TIX

Have a great weekend everyone!

Brilliant. I wonder what a Picasso portrait would look like in the age of mask wearing? 😂

LOL! Of course, One of my friends who knew a lot of about art history schooled me and said that Picasso mastered the realist style early on then moved out of it. Yeeesh. But glad the comic makes (a little) sense!

"Picasso's Passport Portraits" made me snort-laugh. Also a fan of "Where the Cantelope Play" -- that would be an awesome poster.
