Evolution of Mosquito! Northwest + Southeast dates!

Hey Everyone!

Thought I would share some extra pics from the first Mosquito photo shoot! Plus inform you about upcoming performances we have planned.

Here is an early drawing I had made of the original line up of characters for The Storyville Mosquito live. From L-R: Mosquito, Katy (the katydid), tarantula, avocado, squirrel, mole, bread etc. For the early proof of concept models, I used wire and clear tape to create the wings and arms. You can also see a bunch of eyeballs made of clay and painted with various iridescent paints to give it that insect eyeball look!

This is a later drawing I had made where joints for elbows and knees were added.

The final puppets you see in the live show were designed by Patrick Martel. He is the puppet designer and lead puppeter in The Storyville Mosquito. He and I talked at length about what types of movement were required from the mosquito for each scene. For the medium shot/walking scenes, Patrick decided that a rodded puppet would be the best option.

Here is the final rodded Mosquito puppet doing a fashionable glamour shot looking to the left! LOL

This puppet stands about 6 inches tall and is operated from underneath via rods. The puppet is made of resin, wire and paint. FUN FACT! The arms and legs are made of pieces of umbrella spokes! They were the perfect mechanism/joint for the arms. They were light and very functional. But they still looked kind of metallic/robotic so Patrick used clay to bulk up the arms and shoulders a little to give it more of a segmented bug-leg look.

Here is a picture of the mosquito with the clarinet. This image was used on some special flyers we made for the world premiere in Montreal!

Update on the tour! For 2023 we have confirmed 2 more cities this autumn. We will have shows at Massey Theatre in Vancouver/New Westminster, BC Nov 25-26.  (This will be our only stop on the Mosquito tour in the Northwest this year.) We will also be bringing the show to Atlanta this autumn (official date/venue will be announced soon!)

We have more shows planned for 2024 including a run of shows in Montreal, SF, some shows in Germany and possibly a couple of theatres in Asia. I'll keep you updated as all of that gets confirmed.

Looking forward to it all! Hope to see you at one of the shows! And Thank You for your continued support!
