iOS Pricing Increase, Shouldn't Affect Current Patrons
Added 2024-08-13 15:16:39 +0000 UTCTo reiterate, this shouldn't affect current members. I am mostly making this announcement to help get the information out there.
To quote Patreon's help article on the subject:
"To keep the Patreon iOS app available to all creators on the Apple App Store, Apple is requiring that Patreon use iOS in-app purchases for all new purchases made in the iOS app. Beginning in November 2024 new memberships purchased in the iOS app will be subject to Apple’s 30% App Store fee."
In November, payments for new patrons will also have to change so it's whatever day of the month they joined instead of the first of the month for everyone. Again, the language of the article suggests current patrons shouldn't be affected.
The best way to support creators on Patreon in the future will be to not become a member using the iOS app. Aside from that, use of the app shouldn't be an issue.
(Though the app DID have issues with being able to choose multiple options in polls, and I don't know if they ever fixed that.)

i've thought since apple started selling computers that people bought them solely because they were more expensive

2024-08-14 02:10:00 +0000 UTCApple has their heads up in the clouds (and up their asses). Their policies are getting stupider every year. Unfortunately they know they have a captive audience that will let them get away with this when they look at overall annual revenue, even if many people start to boycott iOS in app purchases.
