Abyssal Road Trip - 578 - Settled

Amdirlain’s PoV - Vehtë - Laški

Once she’d left the guildhall, the evening’s teaching and exercises with the family felt to Amdirlain like they’d finished in a blink. She pondered the situation as Vida and her children prepared for bed.

Why did today disappear so fast? Is it that after recovering nearly a million years of my memories, days will disappear? Yet what makes a day here different from the ones on Yúla? Is it that Sarah’s presence helps ...

Amdirlain’s PoV - Vehtë

The paper she’d taken with her had the details of a bronze job, so she’d left Gurn in Laški.

He’s probably going to be caught up in the drama with Lord Plamen.

Amdirlain looked over the report of a giant trapdoor spider outside another small hamlet, but aside from killing one bull, no one else had fallen prey to it. She’d picked details of its rough location from Zivena’s mind, and touched on others to fine-tune...

The temple kitchen was a combined dining area large enough to seat twenty people. It served as a junction point between the temple proper, with its hall and altar, accommodation for novices and priests, and the back courtyard. Within its stones, Amdirlain could hear the echoes of the people who had called it home before being ordered from Laški.

“We missed you,” Aggie added a scoop of mint tea into the steaming pot, and its...

After they trained the teenagers for an hour, Amdirlain called a halt. Together with Aggie, they exchanged bows with the youngsters and left through the training yard exit. Outside the guild, Amdirlain again slipped past the mental shields that protected Aggie’s mind. When they moved along the main road, people yielded quickly to Aggie’s imposing presence; their deference extended to Amdirlain, whom many guessed to be Aggie’s as...

With one look between the Guild Master and Aggie, Gurn excused himself and slipped out the front before Marcin could protest.

“I can handle the report on the job,” Amdirlain offered, as Marcin grumbled under his breath.

“Guild Master. Along with the hobgoblins, today Jay completed the bonus option for a slime clear, killed an aberration in town and healed a local.” Zivena pointed to the container that held the slim...

Gurn eyed the barrier blocking the tunnel into the cliff face as the Dragon begged for his life. “Are you really going to let it live?”

“As long as he behaves.” The moment Amdirlain stepped back, his head came up, and a flicker of azure lightning crackled in his mouth as he inhaled.

Amdirlain effortlessly gouged a line from a scale under his right eye with the tip of her still blazing spear. “Don’t be dumb. First,...

General Update

Hi,

Sorry for the late post. I've been without power for a few days. Got it back for thirty minutes this morning, and it went out again until 1 pm (now 2:11 here). I've had enough time to apply the edits to the last chapter and post it, so hopefully I've caught everything cleanly.

I've lost a heap of writing time, so I'll see how I do getting the next chapter finished and over to the editor. Not sure what the schedule will look like for next week, but I will look to catch up on ch...

Amdirlain’s PoV - Vehtë - Laški

Though heavily muscled, Gurn moved in near silence beside her, his powers absorbing the sound of his chain shirt. Despite his green skin and slightly jutting tusks, the looming presence the Orc possessed and his Waylander Prestige Class reminded Amdirlain of Torm. She cut off a mental snort at the thought and walked on in silence.

It’s an unresolved issue; the slightest similarity is a reminder. I’ll probably always beli...

While Amdirlain kept a mental ear on the family’s sleeping minds, she moved to the outer wall of the cursed temple complex and sat with her back against a fallen pillar. Though the ruined temples had once sheltered the worshippers of Slavic deities, the site reflected the town’s original Roman influence in its architecture.

The sites radiated from a boulevard of columned buildings, with Dazhbog’s temple alongside Sva...

Zivena was collecting her things when Marcin and Amdirlain arrived back at reception. The counters were now half-filled with staff verifying the work of the returning adventurers. They exchanged bags of herbs and monster parts for coins, updating their job status before moving on to the next group.

“Your shift ended, Zivena. Why are you still here?”

“I’m just leaving, Guild Master,” Zivena replied. “Are you sur...

Amdirlain had been watching Cla’nes’s transformation into an Astral Deva when she’d heard Sargel’s use of her name. Initially unsure who’d put so much force into her name, the connection that formed in her mind shocked her, with Sargel and Tingeth speaking beneath a concealment stopped at her awareness. After a needling taunt, Amdirlain released the link to the location where the pair had argued.

They must surely have put...

Amdirlain’s PoV - Outlands

With the commitment to her daughters in mind, Amdirlain reappeared in her Domain rather than in Hell as she’d implied to Lilith.

I’ve got more planning and testing to do before I venture into Hell.

Danu was at her Domain’s border, sitting in the fork of a tree with one leg swaying casually. Her elven form had skin that appeared a blend of moulted wood grains, an amber gaze, and green fronds like hair.  View Post

Amdirlain’s PoV - Outlands

As the battle raged on, the miasma of violence, corruption, and assorted negative energies the dark gods projected rippled further through the Plane. Amdirlain caught the retreat of assorted nature spirits, who carried the news far and wide. After hours of fighting, the forces that the dark gods had holding the portal were being crushed towards the Portal, making it harder for new troops to arrive.

There was no warning when the f...

The three portals itched at Amdirlain’s awareness; two were in underground tunnel complexes, which the demons were expanding. However, the third was aboveground, and the demons had masked it with illusory and avoidance enchantments. A spiralling tunnel delved into the ground nearby and eventually opened into a completely artificial cavern. Among the demons, spellcasters were consuming great tracts of stone in all three locations.

In the days that followed, Amdirlain tracked the steady progress in teaching magic on Yorubi and Yúla. After the impact of unlocking Paragon affinities for both Bakari and Imani, she taught the others to meditate and attune through an Affinity crystal to unlock their connection. While on the primitive Yúla, after the twins' success, more children and adults on Yúla had connected with the earth and water. She and Azadi were now running two...

Amdirlain’s contemplation of the Life Affinity stirred a rush of interlocking insights through the connection she held to Bakari and Imani. Filtered through her awareness, it didn’t crush the pair; her mind automatically sheltered them in a dream-like trance that enfolded their meditative state. The cycle of life and death rose from the foundation of Primordial and Destruction held in her nature. Connected to Amdirlain, fleeting i...

With her spells kept carefully controlled so Bakari could follow them, and to make it seem an effort, it took several hours to restore all the missing digits and limbs. In between tending to those, she discussed arcane theory with Bakari to gauge his understanding level. She started with the last patient, a fighter named Zuri, who had suffered a leg severed at mid-thigh while holding a nearby rooftop. Amdirlain began the latest spells w...

Amdirlain continued to draw attention as she walked through the town of a few thousand people. The stressed state of the wounded laid up in the town’s core prompted her to take shortcuts through side passages. Through these sometimes narrow paths, she skipped cattle grids designed to catch at beetles’ clawed feet. At the irregular junctions between paths, she passed children playing games that involved simultaneously keeping multi...

After Kadaklan left, Amdirlain stayed by the wellspring, enjoying the waters, the music of the forest and the drifting souls. Among the older souls that pre-dated her involvement with Qil Tris, a scattering disappeared to be reborn, while the others continued to drift and dream. Her depleted reserves from the planar restructuring had set deep aches throbbing through her body, and she relaxed into their music, listening to the lives they’d ...

Amdirlain appeared on one side of a Portal that held a thick darkness at bay. An air of menace had settled over the place, yet her senses showed nothing among the surrounding forest of green luminescent mushrooms. As the killing fury crushed down, she stepped across the threshold and slipped hurriedly along the course. The dark waters that had dampened her senses from the outside teemed with life. While the discussion between the avatars went on in the Outlands, Amdirlain took in more of the changes around Vehtë. The repopulation of the Anar and Lómë had continued, yet they weren’t the only elves with greater numbers. Though she’d expected the Andúnë to expand, having them now five times more than before she went to the plinth was a bigger expansion than she’d anticipated. What surprised her was that the Oron in the snowy nor...

General news

Currently, I'm writing Book 3, and my brain wanted to get the pre-events for Klipyl sorted.

I've released the first chapter for everyone, as well as the entire first short story, to the Treasury Tier.

As I complete the others, I'll make more of her short story chapters available to all.

(A different version of these events happened for the RR version of the story — and she named one of her sons after him — in case you noticed the identical name.)

Klipyl Short Story - Rejected - Chapter 4

Weeks later, Klipyl stood in a grove with a bunch of carefully attentive servants all poised to provide drinks or food to a bunch of empty seats. As required, they’d all arrived before the scheduled time and loaded a fridge full of food onto carts and distributed drinks between sparkly ice buckets.

Dawn hadn’t arrived; yet it was an hour after the faction event should have started, and no one was there. The servants and guards could all hear the host pacing back and forth on the bal...

A night of simulations preceded a trudge along the paths to her next duty assignment that started before dawn. Partway there, she felt a rush from the energy feeding through the bond, and stepped off the path between bushes so she could savour the moment unobserved. With the bracelet on her wrist buzzing frantically, she pressed it between her legs and rode it happily, extending the pleasure of the demonic pact’s renewal. As the material in her now-soaked underwear dealt with her orgasmic e...

Faisal stopped at the tower’s lip with the toes of his boots hanging over the edge. With no obstructions, the view of the woodlands and the buildings nestled among them stretched out into the distance. What she had taken for greenery growing in random spots showed a repeated placement of matching plants, though she was unsure of the pattern’s purpose. The language that Faisal had implanted allowed her to recognise the concept of trees, groves, and the names of smaller surrounding shrubs a...

The flames of the abyss spat her out above a red sea, and she felt this plane’s teeth grip her tight.

With no land in sight and no idea where she was, there was no choice but to pick a direction and fly. Just as she turned towards the sullen orange orb overhead to use it as a reference, it burped out of existence. With no navigation skills to aid her plight, she cursed her mother for keeping her locked in the brothel since birth. Klipyl tried to orient off the white frothing waves of ...

The memory of the conversation with Lilith and Phaedra had lasted for months. The last thing she wanted was to lose preparation time for her Patér’s realm.
