Vinland Saga 1x24 Reaction "End of the Prologue"

What an absolutely amazing finale. I couldn't have wished for a better sendoff to Askeladd and I loved how all the core character's actions and dialogues in this last episode of the season perfectly symbolized what we came to know them for. The tease at the end for the future of the show has me incredibly excited to see what direction we'll head into for Season 2, so I can't wait to start watching it when it airs in January!

Just when I really started to like how Yuji was getting close to Junpei and his absolutely hilarious mom, it obvously had to end in pure tragedy again. It sucks to see Mahito actually managing to brainwash Junpei and getting him to blame the entire world except the ones actually responsible.

The calm before the storm. While we've seen Askeladd play chess all this time, it seems even he was caught off guard at the end by the king seeing right through hi by mentioning Wales. Meanwhile, it's great to see the objective of reaching Vinland getting back into our sights, with Leif seemingly finding a way to get Thorfinn to see purpose in it again. One more to go!

Man... The final episodes of season 1 just keep knocking it out of the park. It's so devastating see how Thorfinn still hasn't developed in any meaningful way whatsoever, and Askeladd destroying him by making him see that himself. I loved getting to see Askeladd's backstory, and how he ultimately took revenge on his own dad for having treated his mom the way he did.

This might just be my favorite episode yet. We kept rolling from one deceptive moment into the next. It's clear that Askeladd is playing 4D chess here, setting up the fake assassination and hoping for King Sweyn to find out it was him. Meanwhile, watching Leif realize what Thorfinn has become couldn't have been more saddening, just as Bjorn's exit from the show was.
