"Flat" EQs for the Earfun Free Pro

I wanted to share my 1st "flat" EQ for the Earfun Free Pro with my own ear canal resonance of 6300Hz (updated final settings):

These EQ profiles should basically give you a "neutral" kind of sound similar as it is perceived from speakers in front of you. It's an "ear" verified EQ, thus I could listen to it and fine tune it to my target manually. It may take some getting used to it at first as i...

Trust your ear if you know your resonance...

Hey guys, I wanted to give you a short update of what currently is happening as I was quite active lately and didn't have that much time to do anything else, although I also managed to shoot a video inbetween, but will need to edit it first. The tuning progress so far is really promising. My theory of dedicated resonance-based tunings seems to work like I could experience on my own today.

I was at the Otologist yesterday where I also shot another video covering this topic more in detail...

Earfun Free Pro - 5900Hz tuning

I finally managed to create a tuning for everyone who hears the resonance lower than average at around  6000Hz and below just like me right now.

I think this is my best and most consistent one so far, I would even say this is the most convincing result I managed and I am enjoying it for as long as it will last,  because after my ear cleaning next week I will perceive the sound again c...

Earfun Free Pro 2 - what to expect

Due to the announcement of the new Free Pro 2 there is lots of buzz going on right now in the comment section and in my messages. Therefore I wanted to give you my first thoughts on this model because I had the chance to play with it for some time now.

The new model has better build quality, the body is smaller with the outer part being out of aluminium, it feels definitely more prem...

Don't trust your ear!

Hey guys, this is so important, furstrating and fascinating at the same time that I need to share this with you immediately, as it allows me to explain better how sound is perceived by individuals and that you shouldn't ever trust your own ear.

I am not sure where to start, I already wanted to deal with this topic long before, but was not aware how important it really is and I can tell you that all my previous tunings I did before  sound really off to me right now. Not because my "...

Earfun Air Pro 2 - potential IEM candidate for further tuning

Yesterday I created a first EQ for the Earfun Air Pro 2 which is already available to my enthusiast level tiers. I am quite stunned by the results. I can hear lots of potential from this inear, as already now after my first quick adjustment I perceive it somehow more open and airy sounding than the Free Pro with my tuning. The Air Pro 2 sounds more like an open headphone which may be related to the fact that it doesn’t insert that deep into the ear canal.

But there is one problem: al...

Teufel Boomster - new vs old

I wanted to listen to both speakers more in detail to be able to judge better if I need to spend my money on the new version, therefore I recorded one after the other with several songs and would like to know your opinion to help me with my decision.

With some songs the new one definitely sounds better, with others it appears too harsh and artificial to me. What do you think?

Earfun Air Pro 2 - user EQ

I tried creating a first quick EQ for the Air 2 Pro. After adjustment it sounds quite similar to the Free Pro, maybe even slightly nicer. but there is a catch: like someone had already noticed the EQ is saved within the device but it will always default to the factory preset if put back into the charging box. I haven't found any workaround for this so far and I am not sure this can be fixed somehow. I tried contacting Earfun but it would probably need a custom firmware to deal with this, whic...

Updated Earfun Free Pro EQ for various resonance frequencies

I had to update my EQ for the latest 2 Earfun Free Pro units that I bought recently. I assume most current units should be more or less like that. Unfortunately there is always some sample variation involved, thus everyone would need to fine tune his particular unit on his own as they will all sound slightly different. I had based my original tuning on the first early units that I got, therefore for the new units I had to reduce bass even more adjusting treble a bit at the same time and I als...

Diamondboxx L3 & Rubyoung R630 - first impressions

This video is softer than my other videos as the bass of the Diamondboxx would have caused clipping at higher levels, therefore you need to increase volume more than usual.

I also noticed some popping from my microphones during some parts closer to the end. I hope it’s just an issue with the plug not inserted well and not the microphones, as it would be me second pair dying. Unfortunately I have no replacement right now. I will try doing some further tests to check what the exact issu...

Earfun Free Pro - give away

Hi all, we just came back from holidays and I want to finish the Earfun Free Pro unit with my latest tuning. I will do some measurements tonight to get sure that everything is OK and then prepare this unit to send away to the lucky winner.

We got lots of enthusiast tiers this time therefore I would like to send it to someone who either still hasn’t got a unit or was not able to update it to my latest EQ settings because of issues with the app etc.

Please just leave a comment her...

Earfun Free Pro - future tunings for different ear canal resonances

First of all thanks to everyone who joined the enthusiast level and for all the feedback so far regarding my latest tuning.

After my return from holidays I want to sit down and start preparing further tunings for the Earfun Free Pro optimised for other ear canal resonances than mine. I hear the main peak of the Earfun Free Pro at exactly 6500hz. So far I got values varying from 6000hz to 7100hz. I would kindly ask everyone to provide me his frequency again so that I can get as many valu...

Grell Audio TWS/1 vs Earfun Free Pro (tuned by me)

Keep in mind that the sound samples are meant to just give you a general idea about the sound differences of both units. They were still recorded with my MiniDSP and a compensation I created some years ago when I started reviewing inears. The compensation back then was just made by ear listening to an Inear and comparing that sound to the compensated recording played back over the HD600, thus the result is not exact but rather a rough approximation. Although the general sound signature is cap...

Quick guide how to get my latest tuning into your Earfun Free Pro

Sorry about my rushed video but I wanted to do this before leaving for holidays.

I am sorry about the unexpected issues with the Airoha app, I think the best workaround is to set your phone’s language to English to avoid issues with dots and commas.

Feel free if you have further questions and I am still open for your feedback. I also prepared a video which explains all the filters used for the final tuning which will come next.

Teufel Boomster vs Boomster - outdoors

Had big luck with no wind at all yesterday morning and shot this before leaving for holidays. I hope it can reveal further differences between both models. Although the new one is definitely an improvement I like the old one more in some aspects. Let me know your thoughts.

Earfun Free Pro - my (your) personal EQ values

Update 2: Tony seems to have found the issue which in fact based on commas vs points, here is what he found:

"I managed to fix it! I couldnt change to a point when i just delete the comma and try to replace it but when i put the point in front of the comma and then delete the comma the point will stay. When using only points realtime update and save will work."

Update: Sorry to hear about the issues with the Airoha app. I had no problems with my own phone so far, and w...

Oluv’s audiophile collection playlist #17

Some new tracks for all us audiophile lovers, most of them as usual leaning more towards fusion and jazz simply because I find the highest quality recordings within those genres. It would seem as if modern pop wouldn’t even try to “sound good”.

Earfun Free Pro OE - better than ever

Lately I have been tweaking the tuning for the Earfun Free Pro a little bit more and I am convinced it sounds even better now. I was never fully satisfied with the upper mids, as I was relying too much onto measurements which never quite resembled what I was actually hearing. Due to the time pressure by Earfun to finally settle for a last tuning, I simply could never get it to that level which I was aiming for, not to forget the cheap hardware itself that has its own acoustic limits.
But n...

Yamaha YH-L700 - review

This video became a bit long but I wanted to cover all aspects of this headphone before I need to either return it or maybe even selling it.

Due to the heavy bass I had a hard time capturing audio for this headphone, therefore I had to record with a lower gain than usual thus  the final video is slightly softer than my other videos. Another issue with recording closedback headphones is the additional low frequency rumble captured due to all the body noises, which result from ...

Austrian Audio Hi-X15

I recorded a video of this hyped brand, which I don't quite understand.

You will hear the X15 unequalized and equalized, and also compared to the AKG K361 with both playing unequalized.

I also compared the equalized X15 against the Q30 with user EQ and when hearing the recording afterwards to my surprise I somehow prefer the equalized X15...

Elex&Utopia - blind listening test #2

Thanks for all the responses, I counted 5 who preferred A and 4 who preferred B, the others just guessed which file was which headphone but didn't give any preference.

Before resolving which headphone was which, I thought it may be interesting to hear the preferred audio file from the 1st test, compared against the original recording. Thus here you have 2 WAV files again, one is A from the 1st test and the other one is the unaltered original audio file just matched in volume and synced....

Speaker news

There were some new speaker releases lately, first being the new updated Teufel Boomster:

M1M channel already posted a video with even 2 of them. When I asked Teufel about a unit, they didn’t want to send me one. That’s how the review business runs unfortunately. But a friend of mine who works at Teufel ordered one and will send it to me.

Another unexpected release is the new Bose Sou...
