There has been lots of discussion about different versions of the same JBL speakers claiming this one was better than the other one. I was also asked which version my Flip 6 was and to check how much my GG version really differs from a TL version I wanted to hear it by myself and share my findings with you. As Mediamarkt has them both in stock I simply took one TL unit home to compare it directly to my own GG unit also doing some measurements of both.

There are some complaints starting to appear that my Patreon is turning into an Earfun only project. I blocked this dude immediately and refunded his pledge as I was hoping most of you would understand my intent that I am trying to achieve.
My initial goal was to create a sound which would rival most high-end headphones (I am not even talking about IEMs, as here it's pure luck if the tuning will get along well with your ear canal resonances) and I wanted it to be as affordable as ...

Are there still differences noticeable regarding sound stage, imaging, detail, resolution with 5 different headphones equalized to the same frequency response?
Find out and tell me which one sounds best, worst, most different...?

Just for those who already want to fool around with some sound variants now I wanted to quickly post some other tuning approaches for different tastes, these are optimised for my own resonance of 6100Hz of course.
My original intent was to create a kind of neutral studio sound similar to the Optimum-Hifi profile for over-ears, thus the sound of the Free Pro 2 should sound similar to neutral headphones like the HD600, Focal Elex etc, this would be my current setting which should re...

I had some people reporting secondary peaks they could detect which I definitely didn't get so far, but I wanted to try out what would happen if I used other tips for the Free Pro 2 (this should also apply to the Free Pro of course). The great thing with the Free Pro 2 is that you basically have just one single peak that you need to detect. If you use the default tips I can predict the results you will be getting just by knowing your main resonance. Here you can see a raw measurement in grey ...

I will keep my main tuning posting always up to date, thus you will always find my latest tunings there. Meanwhile Douwe showed me a trick how to achieve even higher or lower values than -12.99dB and I had to apply this method for further adjustments and fine tuning of my personal EQ because it opens up the possibility for even more extreme tweaks, as 10 filters can be quite limiting.
You can get lower values...

Update: this tuning has been replaced with the “neutral” tuning to be found here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/60665035
Only difference is the name and the extended range of available resonance frequencies. At the same time I tweaked bass a bit for an even flatter response.
I have finished my personal tuning for the Earfun Free Pro 2 which is optimised for a 6100Hz ear-canal resonance. All other tu...

I must confess I am pretty exicted and I think you should be as well, at least those who are looking forward to the Free Pro 2 adjustments. I think I managed to finalise my basic tuning now with big help of Douwe who always gave me his feedback on any setting I changed. It was actually very enlightening to hear competent comments on all of my steps and funnily we both seemed to perceive the changes in a similar way every time. When I thought it improved, it improved for him as well, which of ...

I already sent Douwe my current settings to get some feedback and wanted to ask if others would like to try them out as well although this would only make sense for those who have a resonance frequency close to mine thus within a range of lets say 5900-6300 maybe 6400 could also work but the father away from 6100 you get the worse it will become and differences of more than 500hz will just not sound good above 3-4khz, below there shouldn’t be much difference but actually the part above is w...

Basically this is of course possible, in my case it worked and may be needed for those who have assymetrical ear canals, I perceive my resonance at the same frequency for both ears, but some report values that differ, in this case you may want to apply different EQs to both units, another reason may be for example better channel matching between both units which would require way more effort though but basically could offer an even more solid imaging with both channels matched well. You can a...

I definitely won't make friends with all my claims in that video, allegedly people are already talking about me, but actually that's the experience I made throughout all the years when I started to dig deeper into the headphone and IEM scene. I don't want to be contra anyone or try to make enemies, but I simply have the impression as if the whole audio business became a money making fraud.
I also had a discussion with Crinacle today regarding the discrepancy I am getting with IEC60318-4...

I wanted to keep you updated about what is happening right now. I spent the last days concentrating on getting something usable out of the Free Pro 2. For the start I tried to tune it towards the same response of the Free Pro solely by matching both responses which didn’t lead to any usable results. With more or less the same measured frequency response for both the Free Pro 2 sounded off, with some perceived peak which I didn’t hear from the Free Pro. I don’t quite understand the reaso...

This refers to the latest "flat" tunings of the Earfun Free Pro I posted lately, although some prefer my older tunings, I just want to know your approximate resonance value as I would like to collect all values in order to have a better oversight about the overall distribution of individual resonance frequencies. This will be important for an own product as I will need to create the basic tuning for an average value approximating the lower and higher resonance frequencies by somehow adj...

This time I wanted to share some great recorded Christmas songs. It’s mostly Jazz or Smoothjazz with some R’n’B but the tracks are really amazing quality thus the playlist became a bit longer than usual as I wanted to include as many songs as possible, unfortunately “O Tannenbaum” from Scott Wilkie is missing on Spotify. Many titles will of course be double but all interpretations are somehow different. I hope you will enjoy the playlist during these tough times and it can brighten ...

We have a winner for the Earfun Free Pro. It took me a bit longer as I wanted to have all tunings finished first, before sending out the unit. Congrats to Elwin, who will get it within the next days.
For this month I can offer an Anker SoundCore Live Q35 which was just laying around the last months. Although I personally like the Q30 more soundwise, the Q35 has definitely more advanced features and better build quality. Let me know who wants to get it and I will pick one by random...

I want to finally start my work on the Free Pro 2 and did some first measurements which I would like to share with you. These are compensated for my own target, thus the Free Pro which you can see in black will measure as a flat line. Blue is the factory tuning for the Free Pro 2 and red the raw unequalized tuning. You can see there are some issues, especially the overwhelming bass which will be hard to tame with just a single filter like I managed on the Free Pro. Treble alone will require m...

All final tunings for the Earfun Free Pro should be finished by tomorrow, thanks for your pacience. I think I managed to fine tune my target even more in order to make the response even more neutral. There will be tunings for the following values available:
5400Hz
5600Hz
5800Hz
6000Hz
6200Hz
6400Hz
6800Hz
7000Hz
For me 6200Hz sounds best, 6000Hz and 6400Hz are still acceptable, all other values are starting to sound too off (having a neutral reference in...

This is my last video with the Diamondboxx, meanwhile I returned it to Felix. I don’t think it’s really worth the asked price, maybe if you need highest volume levels while still keeping it reasonably compact.

Measured outdoors from a distance of half a meter as usual. I had to measure just 1 channel as the speaker is simply too large to be measured from this distance correctly with both channels. There is a strong dip at 2khz which becomes even more obvious from the non smoothened measurement and looks similar to the crossover issues we already had from the model M etc.
I also measured the range of both bass and treble dials. Apart from the dip quite a decent response with just a bit too muc...

As usual for JBL the Flip 6 does not apply any kind of dynamic bass adjustment, except above half volume it starts to reduce bass while mids and treble are pushed too much at levels close to maximum.
I also attached 2 measurements with some slight EQ adjustment. One with just treble reduced 1 step like I have shown in my videos as I think it sounds slightly more balanced like that, and the other one with bass boosted 1 step and mids and treble reduced by1 step as this gave m...

Sorry for the auto focus issues, they should have been fixed with some later firmware versions but I didn’t dare to update as last time I did it always made the wireless module overheat after 20 minutes of shooting and I had to buy a new camera which still had an older firmware.

It has just arrived and I took it out for a walk immediately to compare it again the Sonos Roam and my old Flip 4. It’s a huge step above the Flip 4 with a fuller and more balanced sound and nicer treble which is not as harsh. Sound dispersion is very good thanks to the tweeter and treble has a nice high quality to it. It sounds comparable to the Sonos being even clearer but I prefer toning treble and mids down 1 notch while increasing bass 1 notch at the same time to get a more balanced so...

I would also welcome anyone who thinks I am doing a good job to leave a public comment on YouTube telling about your experience you had so far. Please keep in mind that my “goal” will be only reached if I manage to satisfy all my supporters with a tuning that sounds perfect to them. Right now I still try to verify and optimise my target and maybe i...
