Die Nibelungen

Today is the 100th anniversary of Fritz Langs Die Nibelungen. I wanted to celebrate by creating a movie poster style illustration based on the artwork by one of my favourite artists, Carl Otto Czeschka. His book illustration heavily influenced the mise en scène of the movie. So I thaught it would be fun to combine elements of the movie and Czeschkas artworks into one.

Its finished! Traditional painting is a lot slower than digital but I think Im getting the hang of it now. I hope you guys dont mind it too much if my output is a little slower! I think Id rather spend the time and make sure each artwork gets the time it needs, rather than rush the process and get a worse result.

Im working on another traditional painting. This is the digital sketch that Im printing out to trace onto watercolor paper. I probably spent too much time on the sketch alone but I wanted to make sure all the elements work together. So Im not running into issues once Im working on the final painting.

Yay I did it! 

Its been about 6 years since I was doing traditional drawings more regularly. Im pretty exited to get back into it. It felt very daunting to paint in watercolors again but I enjoyed it a lot.!

Looks like its a month of experimentation for me. Ive wanted to try doing a traditional watercolor painting for a while. Its pretty scary since Im so used to the comforts of digital drawing but so far Im liking it a lot... I hope I dont ruin this drawing once I add color 😅

Im not sure if I want to do more pixel art. It was deffinetly fun to make but also more time consuming than I thaught... and I already feel like it takes me a long time to do my usual illustrations. I do really love the texture of the gradients. Id love to try and recreate a similar texture but at a higher resolution.
