SAF South Update
No one told me I had to speak in front of a crowd on camera or I would have practiced...😨 you can tell I was nervous lol.

We are in the list to get rescue otters from 'Clark's Otters' next year.
They are a facility that places rescue otters with licensed facilities. Ed the Pond Professor with Aquascape Ecosystem ponds with be building a huge pond that will be used for many mustelids like Otters, and mink. Exciting 😊
Our first SAF South story for you all 😅
We have a visitor! It's an opossum! We love opossums but they are not safe on our SAVEAFOX properties because the foxes will kill them.
So Ethan set a live trap to relocate her. He caught her with a piece of pizza at about 1am, put her in the van, and drove her to a remote location away from busy roads. He took her off the road to a wooded area, got out of the van, and walked to the beginning of the woods. He heard branches breaking/leaves moving as something walked through the wooded ...

We are so excited to share with you all that our building permit for Save a Fox South was finally approved late last month and yesterday, Robyn and her husband Jeff from Fox Tales Florida came down to help, along with a host of volunteers, came to Groveland and helped us put up the frame of our very first enclosure!
As you all know, between the pandemic and initial zoning problems because of nuisance neighbours, our second location has been an extreme labour of love!

Today it was Bongo’s turn at the vet for his yearly MOT!
Bongo was so brave - no biting and he crated so easily. He has a few teeth we need to watch, a small growth in his right ear - that we also need to watch and we’re waiting on his blood test results, but otherwise he’s well - especially considering Bongo is around 9.

This winter was extremely cold, and Jasmine, like many skunks, go into a state similar to a raccoon’s ‘torpor’ where they conserve energy on the coldest days by sleeping, and then on those days where it’s above freezing, they eat as much as they can. It’s meant that we’ve not seen the most of her during the cold months, but now spring is here, she’s spending time sleeping in her nest box in Emmie’s yard again, instead of curled up with the grey foxes, Nikita and Dimka.

They may still be setting boundaries, but we have a couple of new friends here at SAF! After being on his own since Shadow’s passing, we noticed that perhaps Bongo was interested in being friends with the extremely gentle soul that is Floof, so we introduced them last week and they’ve been having supervised time together since.
It’s so cute to watch them!

Like Ferguson! Who, at 6.5 months of age is starting to spend time outside with the rest of the cats and the foxes. Now the snow has about melted, he’s really starting to enjoy it.

Sunny, sweet Sophie
There was an extremely dense fog this morning and as it was burning off, Sophie and I were having a snack in Felix’s tree as he napped.
