A while back, I posted some very rough sketches for pages 1-14 of Spliced. However, now that page 8 has been published, it strikes me that we're about to do a hard cut to a pinup of the fox having his shower. I think we needed a bit more leadup, so I'm inserting an extra page.

I want to extend my deepest thanks to all of you who have become my patrons over the past few days! I don't take your support for granted, and as a token of that, I've decided to post an art stream here, which is something I've never done before.

It's about an hour long, and it shows me creating one of the panels for my comic from beginning to end.

Some more fox heads - my process

I figured I'd step through my process and talk a little about how I go from a sketch to a finished piece of lineart!

For me, the crucial first step is to get a very rough sketch down on the canvas as quickly as possible (pics 1-2). I rarely get the size or shape correct at this stage, and oftentimes the pose isn't right either, but it's important not to let that cause frustration; it doesn't actually matter if it looks right.

Some fox heads

I often make an initial design for a character and then do a few variations to figure out what works. The initial sketch was the top left one. I flattened the head on the top right one, and made a more angular chin on the lower left, both details I liked. I then combined those into the lower right, which is the final design.

Spliced - Comic ideation (pages 1-14)

Here are the veeeery basic sketches that form the basis of the first half of the comic.

They're not sketches in the sense that they're the basis for final lineart, but rather, they're the basis for the plot and what happens on every page and in every frame.... and as such, it's pretty ugly.

Sabre -X- Rowan Lineart complete

Here's another progress update! I've finished the lineart so we're moving on to coloring.

Lion and Hyena becomes Sabre and Rowan

So upon the insistence from my partner, the drawing I'm working on is no longer a lion and a hyena but Rowan and Sabre. Still just as hot though. Here's an update, the character lineart is nearly there. Only missing heads and Rowan's mane.

Lion X Hyena (early sketch)

This will be my next drawing - a lion and a hyena chilling against a rock on a sunny day, making out and showing off to us. I think it's got some real good potential!

Unfinished sketches

Over the past week I've entertained myself with making some really fast rapidfire drawings, no shading, no backgrounds, just character art. I had a few more in the pipeline, and I've decided to do a fully rendered version of one of them, so I'm going to can the rest. Here are the unfinished sketches I was going to work on next:

I'm working on a commission for someone with a cheetah character... which is something I failed to realize initially. I ended up drawing a generic tiger-like feline that really didn't do it for me at all. It didn't look like the character, looked too much like a tiger for a character who clearly wasn't one, was a little low on detail...

Getting Some Sun - Sketch Breakdown

Let's discuss my  sketches for "Getting Some Sun", and how the piece evolved over time. I'll comment each image here below:

LINE ART: The first picture in the series is the final line art. You'll notice that much of the line art is actually -very- thin. So I've been slowly fleshing out the characters here. I haven't had a lot of time to draw during the week, but it's actually shaping up pretty well.

For the wolf commander, I created a new layer, and in order to save some time, I skipped my normal "high-detail" sketch and went straight for lineart.
