This barn has been one of the biggest projects in the last couple of months. I wanted to get it nearly finished before showing it to anyone. Here is the indoor downstairs area, take a look π₯° There is also a big hayloft upstairs... πΆ

I'm attempting to create a GoPro style wide angle helmet cam π€© I'm not sure how many of you can spot the difference between this and the old cam, it could be easy to miss if you aren't familiar with photography so I'll explain.
Basically the old first person camera was stretching the corners of the screen outwards a lot which I wasn't a huge fan of. This happens due to the camera angle being very wide (it's way over 100 degrees) so the player can see around without having to excessi...

This issue is usually caused by the in-game resolution being different from the monitor resolution. Here is how to fix it.

A while ago I recorded an interview about Tales of Rein Ravine and its future with the horse game youtuber Rattle! Even though this is a publicly available video I thought I wanted to share it with you on Patreon too, in case some of you missed it. Many of the frequently asked questions I get were answered in the video so I really recommend watching it if you haven't already! π€©
In the Rein Ravine demo we had a simplified version of the interacting system, where some items became interactable by pointing at them. Here's a sneak peek to a more complex system for the main game. Interactable objects pop up when the player walks near them. Pointing at an object will give you different options to scroll through - such as Look at, Think about, Investigate, Inspect, and many more.

Here's a glimpse into something I'm working on. I have started entirely rebuilding the system and logic behind the jumps to add support for a MUCH wider variety of fences than what we had in the demo. The examples in this post are just the beginning.

The first change ...

I have begun experimenting with a new horse model and animations for the official game.
Given that the previous model was a 100% do-it-yourself creation it was quite unprofessionally made, even though to your eye it might have looked okay the reality is that especially its skeleton was limited and hard to animate with. This is a big reason to why I didn't add animations like rearing in the demo since I knew the skeleton was needing to be remade anyway. (The same animations cannot be use...

As the demo game has now been finalized, what does the future hold for Tales of Rein Ravine?
Going forward, my full-time job is to develop the official main game. The main game has no announced release date, but my goal is to get at minimum a beta version out during the year 2023. The main game is a significantly larger project than the demo, so there might come a time soon to start looking for artists to collaborate with.
The release of the main game will happen on eith...

The main new thing in terms of gameplay is the last riding lesson with Monika, where she teaches you about the basics of dressage and talks about your future. You ride the lesson with Rose.

A simple quest system was added - the demo now guides you to where you need to go to take lessons, how to go free riding, and how to build a jumping course.

Read this first! To clear up some confusion - the Rein Ravine Demo (originally went by the name Horsegame.exe) is a mini-game that features a rough idea of the riding gameplay and visual style planned for an upcoming horse game that interested players can taste-test (demo = short for demonstration). If you came here looking for the official product named <...

Here's another 1.0 sneak peek! In the custom course building mode, you will be able to assign a number to each fence. The slightly bad news are that your old custom courses will have to be reset, due to this and some other structural changes made to the fences. π€ So before you update the game, you might want to take notes of your old courses if you want to rebuild them.
The update 1.0 should be up and downloadable here on Patreon in 5-10 hours!

A small improvement to modifying the jumps. In the final demo you will be able to change the individual jump height by scrolling the mouse wheel while pointing at the desired fence. The precision is now 5cm instead of 10cm. The buttons E and Q still work in case your mouse doesn't have a wheel.

In the finished demo, the lessons will get scored with rosettes as well, based on how cleanly you rode the exercises.
If you have completed the lessons prior, they show up with common rosettes. To get the bronze, silver or gold rosettes you will have to replay the lessons (optional).
Another change is that Monika will now make you do each exercise for a maximum of 3 times only, so if you struggle with a specific exercise you won't get stuck.

The final demo update will have one additional lesson where Monika teaches you the basics of dressage. You will be practising the most common dressage figures with Rose and how to ride a full stop precisely!
In the light of these news, dressage is now a confirmed discipline in the official Tales of Rein Ravine game. π₯°
If everything goes according to plans, the final demo update (1.0) should drop here on Patreon during Wednesday September 14th. ...
