I finished two retextures but I have 3 others left. I am also practicing animating and created 3 test animations yesterday but I don't think will see the light of day. But I will release all the other ones very shortly.

This was a render test I made with the new shader. Lighting someone like Ana or Pharah can get real difficult due to dark areas or just the model's color in general (yellow or green) but the shader knows how to convert those colors properly. And now Ana has her real colors shown.
This render is also interesting for me because I did not do any color correction on it like I usually do.

Just a sneakpeek on something I've been working on. I managed to mod shaders into SFM. Sadly my computer started to lag heavily but I was running everything on max and had several shadows rendered.
This is a vast step up from normal shading in SFM. You can check the attached image for a comparison.
There are more shading techniques but I might explore that in the future. This is only good for renders. Advanced shaders aren't really needed in animations due to motion blur and post-...

I've been working on the new animation for a while but decided to take a break and work on a render instead.
The animation itself is coming along just fine but these things take time.
Here's how I create animations:
Storyboard > Setup the scenes > Animate the scene > Second animation pass > Work on next scene > Finish all scenes > Apply lighting > Add a second lighting pass > Create a background > Render all scenes under this background.

Here is a quick render I made to simulate indoor lighting. Indoor lighting is used everywhere in 3D art. You can tell it's an indoor lighting setup if there are no real shadows because light bounces off the walls and then onto the model. The shadows are there but they are soft and scattered.
The animation I will be working on is going to be heavily motion captured this time compared to the last one. The main reason is because nobody cares how a toe or finger is animated in detail ...

In my last render I mentioned how bad most SFM texture models are and that by default you'll run into a lot of issues when adding more lights creating a bad chicken skin/goosebump effect.

The Sombra render is a bit delayed because the "4K" textures the model has gave her chicken skin. All that grain makes her look like she has goosebumps all the time.
I am currently retexturing Sombra with real 4K textures and then I have to add new lights.

In the recent render polls there has been an issue with ties and sometimes even disparities with what patrons really want.
Before publishing the next render poll I am wondering if we should switch from 20 random characters that I moderate to 10 render groups that you pick from.
Before:

Been working on several renders. The next two will be Sombra and Penny from Fortnite.
This Ana model was pretty low quality and hard to light. I did upgrade it to 2K but next bonus render of Ana will be using a 4K material upgrade which should should result in a better lighting setup.

This render was a bit experimental. Used fog, volumetric lights, HDR and color correction to simulate the lighting from MGSV.
Attached is an image of that process. I also spent a lot of time in photoshop getting rid of edges and bad skin.
Color correction I think is the hardest part because you have to visualize in your head the outcome of your lighting setup.
In my case I was working with red lights even though my final render output would be corrected to green....

It took 6 hours to render this but then got corrupted. After messing with the settings I figured out I was incorrectly rendering it. The total render time was 50 minutes.
The next thing I am working on is a Quiet futa render. There is also a chance that I might be able to port Captain Amari into SFM since her model can't be found anywhere.

What happened to dreamy futa images? It's rare that you find a draenei fucking someone whilst being shrouded in fog. It's always in an Inn or a room.
I had also worked on an other Sylvanas image but because of the angle it's much better to just convert it to an animation for future use.

I wasn't satisfied with Sylvana's lighting setup which meant I needed to improve. I spent a few hours reading up everything related to lighting and new techniques. Turns out photorealism is a great source of inspiration. You don't need a keylight which is usually important since it's your main light but if you export the render properly and convert it in a color correction program you can get something like this:

A quick peek at progress.
I had recorded 6 motion captures but only 1 came out good. I spent hours cleaning the animations but they were riddled with errors and missing frames.
I soon realized that the trick to making it look good is by slowing down your physical motions and exaggerating them when recording. This gives the camera more data to process because it only records at 30 frames per second. The result is more human looking poses and actions from the models. After the anima...

It is finally done. I have also been working on some other renders while taking a break from the post-process.
This render took a long time. I had to:
Render all models separately.
Render each model 4 times.
Apply different lighting to each one of them.
Stitch everything together. I had over 30 layers.
Color processing and some post effects.

Thanks for all the support from fellow patrons. I bingewatched a lot of sourcefilmmaker saxxy awards winners and found out that one of the best animators was almost heavily relying on motion capture.
I watched his behind the scenes work and it seemed too simple and easy. I found some tutorials and the process is around 5-10 minutes per animation sequence. That means you can create entire movies in a couple of days.
Crazy right?!
