(Updated) GM and News Director Leaving CBS O&O Today

A big shake-up is going down at this CBS O&O, as the station will lose its General Manager and News Director today (actually Friday, as this story is going out to FTVLive Patrons early).

Update: See the bottom of the story for the update.

Back in October, KOVR/KMAX (Sacramento) General Manager Deborah Collura announced to the staff that News Director P...

Tegna Replaces a 40-Year Broadcast Vet with AI

Not to say that we didn't tell you this was coming, but now it is here.

At Tegna's KENS in San Antonio, Raymond Silva, a 40-year vet in the business, has been kicked to the curb.

Silva was an award-winning director for the Tegna station, and he wasn't just laid off; he was replaced by artificial intelligence.

In a Facebook post this week, Silva wrote that Tegna was, "moving in ...

The Firm Drops Newscast in H-Town

Maybe I'm the crazy one, but I still think a real newscast, done correctly, can bring in viewers.

60 Minutes has been a top-rated show for decades, and that is because, up until Bari Weiss got there, 60 Minutes did real journalism.

No flying graphics, no fancy camera moves, and no lower thirds, yet almost every week, 60 Minutes ranked near the top of the ratings.

But many media outlets don't think that news can work, and they want to make their shows look more like an influe...

Nexstar Insider: The Company is Tracking You

A while back, FTVLive wrote about Nexstar and their streaming app.

After that post we heard from a Nexstar insider and what the company plans are when it comes to tracking their users.

Here are the claims the insider made in an email to FTVLive.

The mandatory login system that Nexstar now forces on users across its websites and apps is about much more than just agreeing...

Media Company Makes Big PTO Change

While this media company only owns a seven TV stations, you have to wonder if it is a sign of the times for the industry when it comes to time off.

Just before 2025 ended, the employees at the Bahakel Communications station got an email from corporate that will change how and when they get time off.

One Bahakel employee told FTVLive, "On the literal day before the new year, they se...

Nexstar Suits Coming to Tegna Stations

Starting next week, Nexstar suits are expected to start making visits to the Tegna markets.

Word is that Nexstar executives are putting markets that will become duopolies at the top of the list of their visits.

A source tells FTVLive that, "The visits will come from execs in the engineering and tech divisions of Nexstar to assess facilities and determine which building in the ...

When You Forget to Use Your Burner Account

It's no secret that some people in TV like to set up burner accounts to help make them look more popular. What happens when the owner of your station forgets to switch over to the burner account?

DuJuan McCoy owns Circle City Broadcasting, which owns WISH-TV in Indianapolis and is in the process of trying to buy Scripps WRTV in the same market.

McCoy also owns Circulus Digital Medi...

It Has Gotten Bad in Cleveland

If you have worked in TV news long enough, you likely have some interesting stories about some of the buildings you worked in.

I worked at a station in the West Palm Beach market, where one of the edit booths was located in the attic of the station. When you went up to edit, you had to walkout a 90 degree angle as the ceiling was only a few feet high.

People hit their head so often...

News Director Shuts Down Comments

While most TV stations will do about anything to get viewers to engage with them on social media, one new News Directors is going a different direction.

At Paxton Media's WPSD in Paducah, newly named News Director Jeff Bidwell has seen enough negative comments on his station's Facebook page.

Bidwell has only been on the job for 3 weeks, but has decided to turn off comments on the s...

Sinclair's Epstein Coverage Requirement

According to an internal memo sent to the Sinclair stations, they have some requirements when it comes to covering the Epstein files.

It should come as no surprise, the requirement is in place to help protect Donald Trump from claims made in the documents.

The internal memo was sent to the staff from VP of News, Scott Livingston. The document was obtained by FTVLive.

Nexstar Station is in the Epstein Files

Well here is an interesting twist on regards to the DOJ's small release of the Epstein files.

It appears that a document from a Nexstar station is in the files. Well, technically, the station is a Mission Broadcasting station, which is the sidecar company that is run by Nexstar.

Looking at file EFTA00001349 in the Epstein documents, you find this photo from WVNY in Burlington, Vermont.

More to Blame Than Tegna's CEO

FTVLive has told you how Tegna gave out year end bonuses to people at only 11 of Tegna's 64 stations.

Tegna CEO Mike Steib held a teams call and named the 11 markets that would be getting a $1500 "merit" bonus, despite the fact that most Tegna staffers don't know what the "merit" was based on?

FTVLive has heard from several Tegna staffers and while many are voicing their anger in St...

Tegna Stars Flagging Employees Who Spoke Out

On Friday, in a Patron Only story, FTVLive told you about the absolutely ridiculous system that Tegna used to hand out year end bonuses.

Of the 64 stations that Tegna owns, only employees at 11 Tegna stations were given bonuses and no one knows why those 11 stations were chosen.

The Most F'd Up Bonus System Ever

FTVLive has been telling you how many Tegna station employees are not getting a holiday bonus.

In the past, Tegna handed out $1000 bonuses to their employees. But, Tegna CEO Mike Steib decided that the bonuses would go away in 2025 and be replaced by "merit based bonuses".

On the surface, that does sound like a bad idea, you work hard, you give your all, you get a bonus. You slouch ...

Gone in Nebraska

One of the things that I can't understand about media companies, is their lack of transparency. You see it all the time.

If the Mayor resigns, or even their chief off staff is suddenly gone, you can bet the local news station will be down at city hall, asking questions and demanding answers.

But, when one of their people is suddenly gone, they say nothing.

Back in February, ...

What Do You Notice About this Sinclair Station?

Looking at the staff at this Sinclair station, there are two things that really stand out, at least to me.

First off, if you're looking for a Black person, you are not going to ...

Shuffling the Anchors in Nashville

There is an interesting Anchor shuffle happening in Nashville and one move might have been a demotion.

Gray's WSMV announced that they have hired former WTVF Anchor Hunter Hoagland to be the station main evening Anchor.

Hoagland left Scripps-owned News Channel 5 a year ago, but now returns to the Music City.

Hoagland posted the news on his Facebook page which is still brand...

Now Graham is Doing This Crap!

We saw Scripps try this crap and now it appears that Graham Media is going to rip the page out of the Scripps playbook.

You may remember that when Sean McLaughlin was the VP of News, he came up with the idea on an "Executive Reporter." At Scripps, the "ER" was supposed to report the news, but also help train green MMJs on how to do their job.

Sometimes, You Should Just Stay Quiet

Despite being an Anchor, there are times when you would be best to keep your mouth shut.

Especially when it comes to pets.

Maybe, that was his first clue to remain silent, but he didn't and this was his post.

DC Anchor Goes Missing

TV stations love to talk about transparency in both local and national government. But, when it comes to their station, the rules are a bit different.

Especially, when the station is owned by The Firm.

Without a doubt, the Fox O&Os are the worst when it comes to be transparent, even on minor issues. Employees at Fox O&)s tell FTVLive that the Fox publicity department tries to instill fear into their staff, so they won't talk.
