Lengthy Update on All The Things

Sorry things have been quiet on the patreon front lately. We've been really wrapped up in beta testing Changeling and trying to get things fixed and polished and ready for release sometime within the next decade. ;A;

A Couple of Reminders

Hey everyone! We're gearing up to do our final round of beta testing and just wanted to remind that anyone at $25 and above gets access to the beta testing forum and will get an early look at the nearly-finished game! 

We also want to let you know that we're going to try to get part three of Marc's first chapter out soon. We had another bit recorded but something went wrong and there was no sound to it which kind of defeated the purpose. So we're going to have to re-record that.

William CG - WIP

This is just a WIP from one of William's CGs - this one is all the way up to the flat color stage, but with no BG.

I have to say that by the time I finished all the CGs for this game, I was so sick o shading red hair. LoL. I'm so determined to never draw a red haired character again! >=O

(I will totally have more red haired characters. I love red hair.) LoL Still, Nora has way too much hair. OxO

William CGs - Process

So here are couple start-to-finish process images for a couple of William's CGs. 

This was one of our easier to work with concept artists so I didn't have to make too many changes, overall. Mostly I made some fairly small anatomical fixes combined with stylistic changes to get the images into the style of the rest of the game. 

William CG - WIP

Just posting a quick WIP of one of William's CGs. I'll probably post some progress of this one when it's done though, showing the progression from concept to finished art. this one stayed pretty close to its original concept, I think. Just stylistic changes for the most part. 

Ewan - Process and Remake

A while back, we posted this WIP of a CG from Ewan's route. It was one that started with a quick sketch by me that was just based on a really, really clear mental image that came to me one day while editing his route. 

I got stared painting it and really struggled with, well everything. The core problem was that I just didn't spend enough time on the sketch and making sure there wasn't anything weird about it. So when I started painting it, all the weird issues started coming out.

Ewan CG teaser

This is just....what the title says. A teaser for one of Ewan's CGs - this teaser won't be going up on the blog or anywhere else because I'm trying to avoid posting too much spoilery teaser material in public.

It's so hard though. I want to show everything off and prove we're making progress and working on things. But of course, SOME stuff has to stay secrety so the game has some surprises for the public at large.

Ewan CG (full)

Just wanted to show off a "game ready" CG vs the full version. Not all our CGs have full versions that are this much bigger than the game image. Most of the CGs are painted at a very large size and, often, are at least slightly larger than what is shown in game as far as the scene itself. For the most part, CGs are cropped and resized smaller for the game. Though we do have a couple that were painted at the game resolution so no cropping or resizing was done.

Anyway, this is one of only a coup...

Danny CG - WIP

Just a WIP of one of Danny's CGs. It is, as usual, in that awkward phase where they both look naked. O///w///O;;

Danny CG Process (spoilers)

So this post is going to show the process for one of Danny's CGs.

This CG was originally conceptualized quite differently than how it turned out.

When working with the concept artists, I'd typically give them my personal vision for the scene, reference images if I had them and then I'd give them a snippet of the script so they could read the full scene for themselves. For some of the end CGs, I didn't have much of a mental image because ultimately they're all kisses or hugs or whatever.<...

Elli CG Process

So this is a process of a set of CGs from Elliot's route. 

Starting here, with the concept art. I will say this was one of my least favorite concept artists and we didn't work with her long. I found that the quality of work we got from her did not at all align with her public portfolio. and there were way too many anatomy flaws for her concept art to be much use for me. I was spending more time correcting issues than I was just translating the images into my style.

Which route should we play?

Thank you so much everyone! We met our first goal here on patron - $100! It may seem like a small thing but that's really big for us and it's honestly a massive help to have a bit of money set aside for extras and unforeseen needs for our project!

HOW TO HAIR

This is just a quick visual tutorial of how I color/shade hair. 

I chose to do this using Nora's long hair from a Marc CG so this is also kind of a pseudo-preview of that CG. OwO;

Anyway, let's get started.

To start with, obviously, you need a flat fill as a base. I also go in with a big, soft brush and block in some very, very basic starter shading just to start setting where I want the bigger shadows. Hair, of course, is 3-dimensional because the head is a sphere so you have...

Concept to Completion Comparison - Sprites

So these are some sprites from Changeling! Beta testers know what is going on with the madness above. Others are likely curious as to what the heck is happening with these ladies. LoL

These sprites are from Ewan's route and a sequence at the end which involves some impostors of some of the other characters showing up.

I Knew You Were a Cannibal

This is a sneak peek of a scene early in Elliot's route and is probably the start of the running joke of Elliot being a cannibal because he's a Vampire.

The clip includes one of Elliot's CGs.

Endgame

A very sneaky peek at what is currently the opening/prologue sequence of Endgame. Might change as time goes on (probably will. LoL) but...for now....

Liam Progress

So this is the progress for Liam, a side character and antagonist for Danny's route. 

Greenace was the concept artist for Liam (as well as several other sprites.) You can see I changed him up a fair bit in the final version.

Greenace posed him very stiffly, as usual, but it kind of works for this character so I kept that aspect of his pose. However, I dropped his arms to his side for a couple of reasons. 

First, I think his hands being behind his back will just look stran...

The initial concept art was done by Greenace, who has worked on other projects such as Lads in Distress. She does nice concept art and saves me a lot of time with costume design and such but her style is obviously very different from mine. And I often have to completely rework poses from scratch when working with her concepts.
