Auto-Tailor - page 8 - Process

Since the colors and shading were done by my partner, Jade, I'm going to talk more about other aspects of my process in more detail.

1. I start with a rough thumbnail to plan out the page. This page uses a dynamic four-panel layout, with more focus on the third and fourth panels, to emphasize the crazy robotic make-up application and then the fabulous final result.

2. Now I go in and work out the final poses and proportions. The first panel uses a low-angle to emphasize the way th...

Is there really such a thing as too much make-up or lips that are too full? Yes. Yes, there is.

Drawn based on suggestions from Cardboard2396, HinaYui, Masked, Josster, and Nekafluff.

Jiggle Bells - Process

1. I start with a thumbnail to get the basic concept down.

2. Next, a more formal sketch to work out the layout, pose, and proportions.

3. Final sketch. I sketch the characters in full detail.

4. Inking. I use a variable-width inking brush for the character and a constant-width brush for hard things on vector layers. I use lots of different layers for different parts, which makes it easier to overdraw and erase as needed. I also went ahead and inked the shape for the eyelash...

Jiggle Bells

Wasn't it nice of Lady Krampus to wear that blindfold to give you a sporting chance to get away, you naughty little sissy?

Auto-Tailor - page 7 - Process

Since the colors and shading were done by my partner, Jade, I'm going to talk more about other aspects of my process in more detail.

1. This page uses a simple three-panel layout, with most of the focus on the large third panel. Really, this page is just about doing that visual gag in the third panel.

2. Now I finalize the proportions of the character and in the wall and hoop skirts.

3. Those hoop skirts were crazy complicated and detailed and I didn't want to have to draw them all...

And that's why you usually don't wear a lot of petticoats underneath a hoop skirt, especially not THAT many.

Since the colors and shading were done by my partner, Jade, I'm going to talk more about other aspects of my process in more detail.

1. This page uses a four-panel vertical layout, showing the process from start to finish. Using shorter panels at the top and moving to larger panels at the bottom creates a sense of motion as if we are following the progress of the ring.

2. Now I finalize the proportions of the character and rough in the machine and hoop skirts. I jazzed up the panels by m...

Now it's too fluffy so he needs something to squeeeeeeeeze all that fluff down.

Since the colors and shading were done by my partner, Jade, I'm going to talk more about other aspects of my process in more detail.

1. This page uses a simple four-panel quad layout, showing the process from start to (almost) finish.

2. Now I finalize the proportions of the character and rough in the machines. I jazzed up the panels by making them get larger, closer, and with more disordered panel borders as it becomes clear that the machine is going overboard with the petticoats. ...

A tight slip is nice but now it's time to get fluffy.

Since the colors and shading were done by my partner, Jade, I'm going to talk more about other aspects of my process in more detail.

1. This page uses a five-panel layout, three process shows and then one finished effect shot then something to lead into the next action. The arrangement of three process shots, all in in the same pose, all in a row, verges on the animatic in style and can be a fun way to focus on each reaction. The final panel, when the character sees an escape, helps keep the s...

Since the colors and shading were done by my partner, Jade, I'm going to talk more about other aspects of my process in more detail.

1. This page uses another three-panel layout, two close-ups and then one full-shot but in a different arrangement. Varying the panel layouts keeps the story from feeling repetitive.

2. Now I finalize the proportions of the character and rough in the machines. The panel borders are getting more irregular to create a feeling of chaos and distress.

Since the colors and shading were done by my partner, Jade, I'm going to talk more about other aspects of my process in more detail.

1. This page uses a three-panel layout, two close-ups and then one full-shot. This is a good approach when you want to show that a process is happening and then show the full result. This is just a thumbnail so I'm not concerned with getting the proportions just right here. Thumnbails are quick and dirty, just to work out the layout and concept.

2. Now I fi...

Since the colors and shading were done by my partner, Jade, I'm going to talk more about other aspects of my process in more detail.

1. This month, I wanted to work on a full-length comic, based on suggestions from my live-stream patrons. I chose an auto-tailor concept because it provides a clear, simple framework for the story while giving my patrons a lot of freedom in what kind of suggestions they can make for how the machine delightfully malfunctions. This first page didn't need any sugges...

A new, full-length comic about a man using an automated tailoring booth where everything goes... well... pretty much the way you're thinking it will.

It's been a while since I've done a long comic so I'm a little rusty. And my approach of drawing multiple pages at once, instead of one at a time, is why the first pages are all coming out together near the end of the month.

This is going to be a long comic so it won't all post this month.

Drawn based on suggestions from Cardbo...
