Video games have always been more than just entertainment. They’re stories, challenges, and, often, mirrors that reflect our inner struggles, hopes, and fears. When I was playing Forspoken, I found myself in a moment where Frey was trapped in a simulation. The situation struck a nerve—it felt eerily similar to how I’ve been feeling in my own life. Stuck. Questioning. Looking for a way out.
In that moment, I decided to believe that this match was a metaphor for my worries. Tha...
Just listen as you do other things. Please forgive my use of the word Bro. My apologies although I know I should be able to say it, it can be not very inclusive. I am from the south and it is a term of endearment I use for everyone in my life, if it is bothersome to you I have no problem changing it I could have said Avatar. I'll use that next time. This video will show you how to adjust the difficulty setting of your life through using videogames as a metaphor.

This is a continuation of our previous discussion on self-compassion. You can watch the full transformative video and audio in a previous post.
It really only takes one small action of self-compassion to begin adjusting the difficulty level of life. If this game was designed specifically so that you could exist, then you also have the power to adjust the subjective perception of that existence.
And by and large, what affects this perception...
Good Respawn Players,
Today's self-referential video is on modeling self-compassion. Many of us struggle with self-compassion. It is a difficult skill to master as it requires you to be nice to the one person you feel like deserves cruelty the most.
In this video, I will share the story of playing Mirrors Edge and the difficulty I had in learning it. You will observe me observing myself, the video and audio included below will veer off wildly and while it might be fun for eve...

Of the many adventures we have in games all of them share a common beginning. Hardship. Difficulty. Confusion.
In most we start out weak and barely able to defend ourselves. Not because we're not competent but because we're just starting out. We don't know the rules or the flow. And depending on how new we are it can be disheartening to fail seemingly endlessly.
While videogames are more forgiving in their acceptance of our mistakes...real life ca...

I hope you find this message well. It has been some time, but I have needed to recalibrate due to the sheer ridiculousness of the world. Here is a 25 minute talk which I think will be very helping you at the very least find some sense of stability. I also included a lesson plan which might help orient you to your own life and struggle. Additionally, a values clarification worksheet that I made.

Please share this where you can.
In America, as much as people like to say "keep politics out of video games," video games have always been political. Their very existence is a political statement. Games from Metal Gear Solid to Baldur’s Gate 3 are interwoven with narratives reflecting the struggle for resources and power, easily understood by those who have educated themselves beyond a grade-school level of political knowledge. Those who have moved beyond ...

Hello All!
And thank you for your presence and engagement. Today's talk is on playing the cards you're dealt. Which I had to do with this particular talk. My live stream schedule is posted on my twitch at DerrickTheMindfulGamer. If you cant attend those times please let me know so I can update it. I want to get to know the members of the community. Happy New Year Church-
Today marks the beginning of the new year. And as I look back over the last year, it can be summed up in one word.
Chaos.
A little chaos isn't bad. In fact, life would be a little boring without it but without structure, without plan, without focus it can easily become overwhelming.
I know the shift can be jarring, especially if others are used to seeing you in an unorganized state but as many videogames have taught us-the shift to focus can ...
I am considering publishing this piece I wrote. I'm wondering about how to address the anti-wokeness that is dominating gaming discussions. It is simply a call for discussion. I don't agree with bigotry in any of it's forms and at the same time, I'd hope that all of know what it's like to believe things and have a change of mind. I'm interested in your thoughts and the infinite perspectives that can be gained from them.
I believe videogames have the power to change minds, shape opinio...
Hi Players,
Today’s sermon, "The Glitch of Exhaustion: Finding Rest in a Simulated World," is now available as a downloadable MP3! In this talk, I explore the idea of exhaustion not as failure, but as a glitch in life’s game—a signal that it’s time to pause, recharge, and recalibrate.
You’ll hear me reflect on:
How exhaustion shows up as a reminder to adjust and care for ourselves.
The importance of delegation<...

Quantum Situationality: The Power of "Enough"
"No matter how bad it's been, I've always pulled through. Every challenge, every tight moment, has led to this: I am still here."
Life is a series of levels, each with its own challenges. At times, the game feels unwinnable, the odds stacked against us. Yet, in every instance, we’ve found just enough to survive the stage. No matter how dire it seemed, we’ve been granted exactly what we needed to move forward:

In many action and RPG games, panic dodging or panic rolling is an instinctual response to danger. A boss swings its massive blade, or an enemy closes in, and we frantically roll to avoid damage. Sometimes it works, but more often, it leads to vulnerability—falling off a ledge, rolling into another attack, or ...

GG, avatars! I’m thrilled to share with you the foundational documents of The Church of New Game Plus—the Doctrine, Core Principles, 10 Gaming Commandments, Code of Conduct, and more. These form the pillars of our community and philosophy, a space where gaming meets spiritual growth, self-discovery, and, most importantly, community. Each document reflects the values we’re building together: Infinite Choice, personal lore, and the journey each of us takes in life and gaming.
This is a call to action. I woke up this morning and just felt it on my heart to give this message. Where is the modern audience? Where are we and what can we do? And our battle isn't hard. It isn't throwing hate comments or being disrespectful to our fellow gamers. It is really very simple. We need to show up and be creative and showcase the beauty of diverse games. "Helping" doesn't mean money. It can be liking a post, sharing it, and commenting. Engagment is the real currency and I a...
