I am always reading about nature and paleontology and recently have been reading up on ancient mammals. I found out that once there were hoofed mammals some of which were carnivorous! These are the ancestors of familiar animals like cows, horses, deer, tapirs, rhinos and such. The carnivorous ungulates eventually died out about 30 million years ago, but have been doodling some and here they are.

This top one illustrates animal communication.

I was running out of modern critters to draw so I have started to attempt some long vanished beasts. The following 2 pages feature 2025-05-22 15:00:08 +0000 UTC

One of my loyal Patreon members, Jack commissioned me to draw a gorilla in baby clothes. I'm not sure what it means and was afraid to ask but I dutifully complied. Maybe it's for a club where Jack and his pals dress up as gorillas in baby clothes?
Here are some of my rough studies I did before I made the final.

I tried to do a sketch of them from memory:
It wasn't entirely successful so I freeze-framed an episode to some studies.
You'd think they would be easy to draw since they are so distinct but I find it difficult to get a good likeness.

These are drawn with the crappy Papermate pens because I'm saving my last few good markers for more cartoony stuff.

Here are some boring drawings of various beasts. I record a lot of nature shows and from time to time sketch some of the animals in hopes of retaining some of what they look like next time I draw some cartoon animals.
Unfortunately usually I don't remember much of it later and have to start all over.

This one is inspired by Alexis Smith, a classic Hollywood actress and singer who appeared in many film noirs (my favorite movie genre).

Next I painted some details on the neck and her left trap.
I added her clavicles and the shadows underneath them. (The shadows are too high, overlapping the clavicles and I'll fix them in a later step.

These aren't drawn with my usual marker pens. They have been discontinued for some reason so I am using my last few judiciously. I drew these with crappy Papermate Flair pens. I can't figure out why they are so popular. The tips are way too skinny and you can't get a nice thick and thin line or any feeling with them. That's why these look so sketchy.
