Ye olde virtual modde

Bravo, no, bravissimo to Beardo Benjo for rediscovering my first open world mod! Turns out it can still be played today, with just a few preliminary operations to roll back the game to the last version before the publisher decided they were selling too many additional copies to VR lovers ;-)

The fully story of what happened is available here.

Have fun watching Beardo Benjo playing [redacted to keep lawy...

Release 11.3.2 of the R.E.A.L. VR mod, attached at the end of this post, adds Far Cry Primal to the list of titles that we can play in VR.

Far Cry Primal is one of the weirdest installments in the Far Cry series, and some say that its gameplay can be a little repetitive. But it has some truly magical moments, that become even more special and unforgettable in virtual reality.

Give it a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed! Also, the...

Happy holidays in VR with Far Cry 5!!!

Updates and known issues: scroll down to the end for the latest information.

As I anticipated to you some time ago, I'm trying to work my way backwards through the Far Cry series, and today is Father's day (if you never played this game before in 2D, you'll get what I mean after just a couple of cutscenes!).

Release 11.0.1 of the R.E.A.L. VR mod, attached at the end of the post, adds Far Cry 5 to the list of titles that we can play in VR. It also solves t...

Here we go again

Release 10.8.0, attached below, is a hotfix for Cyberpunk 2077 that makes the R.E.A.L. VR mod work again with the official 2.1 game update.

Fortunately they said this update will be the last, as keeping CP2077 shipshape was starting to turn into a full time job :-)

This is still kind of a work in progress. It's fully playable, but a few things that I had fixed in previous releases (like subtitles sometimes ending up headlocked and thus hard to read) are broken again for now.

Another day, another fix for CP2077

Ever heard of the gift that keeps on giving? []-D

This release fixes a minor but annoying problem with the HUD of Cyberpunk 2077 in VR.

After some cutscenes, camera changes, and other scripted events, the main subtitles (those appearing in a fixed position toward the bottom of the screen) and the phone menu could become headlocked instead of being properly displayed on the normal HUD, which made them quite difficult to read and interact with.

There was a workaround (the issu...

Hotfix for Grounded

Hahaha caring for these mods feels just like having a bunch of male kids. At any given time, there's always one or two ending up into trouble or hurting themselves :-D

This release fixes Grounded after the official 1.3.0 update made the game appear in a virtual 2D window instead of being properly displayed in full 3D VR.

The game has a new creation mode that I didn't have time to test. Let me know if you encounter any problems with that, so in case I can try to fix them too <3<...

Accurate sync for CP2077

This release introduces a new, hopefully more robust way of pacing a DirectX 12 game engine with my VR framework.

In Cyberpunk 2077, some users (myself included) could experience occasional frames where the whole VR world would flash with random colors, either in one or both eyes. This was more frequent when running at very high resolutions without DLSS and with AER v2 set at 1/2 rate, and it was due to a change introduced in resource usage by the latest official game updates.

Fix for CP2077 crashes and jittery HUD

Update Nov 3: After publishing v10.6.0, I discovered that world geometry (walls and such) could still be missing in specific points of some missions, for example the final part of The Pickup. This is due to a problem in the way REDengine 4 computes level of detail for assets when high FOV values are used. It's not limited to VR (see this 2023-11-01 18:50:49 +0000 UTC View Post

Release 10.5.0 fixes CP2077, FF7R and Spidey

This is a maintenance release. Lately there's been a flood of official updates to several games in our VR collection, and that directly affected some of the mods, breaking stuff here and there.

Additionally, the changes I had to make to my framework in order to support the new updates resulted in me accidentally introducing some regressions, even for titles that used to work correctly :-(

Most of the issues should be fixed now. I still have a few outstanding reports about problems...

Hi guys!

As I feared, adapting the R.E.A.L. mod to the new Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update (which in the meantime was again tweaked with patch 2.01) was quite a hard task. Or to be more precise, it is a hard task, because the battle is not fully won yet.

CP2077 update 2.0

This is not the post you were hoping for, I'm sorry :-(

I'm not writing to publish a hotfix for the official 2.0 update that broke the R.E.A.L. VR mod for Cyberpunk 2077, but to warn you that such a fix will probably take me a long time.

I have 42 points where my VR framework code connects to the game. 33 out of 42 have been completely broken by the update, and even the remaining 9 no longer work as they should.

So I'm afraid that fixing the game will likely be almost as tim...

Fix and DLC support for Atomic Heart

Ciao guys!

It took me a few days, but in the end I was able to fix my VR mod for Atomic Heart so that it is compatible with the latest official game update and with the Annihilation Instinct DLC that came out last week.

You can find the new 10.2.0 release attached at the bottom. As usual the same archive also supports all other games, including the latest VR mods for the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (see View Post

Hey guys!

Release 10.1.1 of the R.E.A.L. VR mod (attached at the end of this post) fixes an annoying problem brought about by the latest official update to Cyberpunk 2077: specifically, tooltips in the inventory screens were appearing way up, out of alignment with the objects they described, and in such positions as to be mostly unreadable. All of them should now be back in their proper place.

I also fixed a few minor issues wit...

AER v2 for all supported games!

And yes, that includes Cyberpunk 2077 []-D

I know that so many of you have been waiting for this one. I'm sorry that it took me so long. The Hogwarts Legacy insta-mod contributed to the delay, but the main reason was that I didn't want to ship AER v2 for CP2077 until automatic frame rate control was ready, because when that works it makes everything so much easier. Unfortunately however Auto is still too unstable even for early access, so for now I only enabled the two manual modes you'...

Optimized AER v2 with support for Elden Ring

Hi guys!

Release 9.3.1, which you can find attached at the end of this post, comes with as much performance improvement as I was able to squeeze from my frame interpolation tech. It's not a lot (about 10% at higher resolutions) but I believe that I'm getting close to the Pareto front, so I don't really want to spend an inordinate amount of development time on this just to shave off, say, another 2-3% or s...

Release 9.2.1: AER v2 support and VR hosting fix for Grounded

This is a maintenance/improvement release.

With previous versions of the mod, Grounded would work fine, even in multiplayer... except when a VR player was hosting the game and at least another player had joined. In that case only, spurious frames would be generated (especially when the other player was moving around the world) leading to jittery afterimages in the headset and bad performance because of the double renderings.

I apologize for not catching that case in my testing. I ...
