Brockton Bay's Marvelous Mage - Chapter Eighty Four

Smokey and I settled in to wait for the PRT's response, only to immediately realize we had made a mistake. It was early afternoon, and the streets were populated by people walking around, heading to lunch, or just going about their day, and it didn't take long for them to notice us. Almost immediately after settling up the call, people began to approach us, and soon, a large crowd had formed, with people asking for photographs and signatures. It appeared that, to the public at least, that a p...

The Brink and Back - Chapter Fifty Five

After saying goodbye to Jackie, I made my way back to the garage. I had withstood the allure of my latest build long enough, it was time to get back to work. The goal was to unlock the highest level of the vending machine technology early enough in the day that I could spend the rest of the day planning how to kill the Wraith reinforcements. Then Samwise could be in charge of producing whatever we developed, and the others could go and deploy it. With any luck, it would be ready by tomorrow m...

Brockton Bay's Marvelous Mage - Chapter Eighty Three

Hello again, everyone! So, last week, I posed the question of putting this story on pause. With the responses I received, I have decided not to do so any time soon. This story will continue. That being said, there is a chance that, in the future, I will be changing the posting schedule so that it only comes out once a week, and that its second weekly slot is taken by a new story. This will not be happening for at least a few months, but I am strongly considering it, so keep i...

Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 206

I led the two generals through the Whale Shark, showing off the just under two squadrons worth of mixed starfighters that were on display. They were all in serviceable condition since anything of poor quality was broken down into parts and stored away to use the next time we got the same model. It happened frequently enough that parts were in high demand, and we ended up fabricating quite a few of them.

"I'll be honest, Admiral Deacon, this is more than we thought you would sho...

Rise of the Battlemage (Poll)

Hello everyone! While Deacon and his crew take care of business, 4th Group is out stealing their first ship from the Empire, and you guys get to choose which one!

A couple of things to keep in mind: if not much is known about the ship, I'll make up some basic stats. Also, the idea that a large ship doesn't have a hyperdrive is dumb and tells me whoever created it has no idea how space works, so we ignore them.

Here are your options:

Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 205

For the rest of the day, I traveled around, meeting with different people and groups to discuss the future and the plans people were making. So far, a few groups had started to form, most of of them looking like the precursors to guilds and unions. The various vendors around the city had selected a spokesperson, as had the various shops and the construction workers.

I was happy to listen to what they had to say, wanting everyone to feel like they were being heard, but I was also very ca...

Brockton Bay's Marvelous Mage - Chapter Eighty Two

Hello everyone! So, lately, I have been considering taking a break from this story. There are a few reasons, not the least of which is that interest in the story seems to be dwindling. I think we all understand what "take a break" usually implies for fan-fiction writing, but nonetheless, I have been considering it. I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this, so please comment and let me know. And yes, the story would be replaced by something new, you don't have to worry ther...

The Brink and Back - Chapter Fifty Four

The impromptu meeting with Dakota continued for another hour, during which we discussed just how many Aldecaldos would be moving in, what sort of accommodation they would need, how many vehicles to expect, and so on. The numbers were higher than I expected, especially compared to what you saw in the game, but well within our capabilities. As the meeting was winding down, I radioed Murtaugh to send a bot to get Noah so I could talk to him about what needed to be done. I knew he had a few MRVNs...

Rather than just sitting and talking around the fire, or in the common area, we returned to the ritual platform. I wanted to make at least three more pears of strength for Kali to maintain, and I had already proven I could multitask through the process. So we talked, all of us, explaining some of the aspects of my magic and what I had managed to do with it. I revealed that I seemed to be linked to some sort of well of knowledge and that I was occasionally blessed with new knowledge, but I ult...

Once the area around the landing pads had slowed down, I made my way to the garage unit that had been built nearby. It mainly contained transport speeders for moving materials and goods when they got delivered, but tucked in the back was my own personal speeder bike. It was nothing complicated, just a civilian model that was reliable and not too expensive. I had the two-person model, which could carry two passengers and some cargo, but I knew that there was a sleeker,2025-02-10 16:47:53 +0000 UTC View Post

Rise of the Battlemage (Poll)

Hello everyone! So the most recent chapter of Battlemage reveals that, after a bit of a time skip, a good portion of the Skyforged Vanguard are out procuring the next batch of product. The fate of the 4th Group is set in stone, now it's up to you to decide how well the 1st and 2nd Groups perform.

Keep in mind that it won't be across the board the same for both groups. The resource or casualty modifier might affect one crew more than the other.

Most of the 3rd Group and Salvage Fleet stuck around the mining colony planet for around a day, cleaning up our battlefield and shipping the bandits we collected from their disabled ships off to the nearest bounty collection station. We made just about two hundred thousand credits on that alone. In the end, we took the payment for stopping the bandit group in materials, namely a chunk of the precious metals the bandits had stolen in the first place.

The stolen haul was recovered when sl...

With the ABB almost completely collapsed, it was decided that, for now, our patrols should focus on the area where the now "cleared" area joined up to E88 territory. It was rather obvious that the Empire was keen to start expanding into the new area and that we were the only thing keeping them out. I could feel Alya expanding around me, happy to be spread out after spending so much time compressed as I worked on my totem magic.

"I still cannot believe that Nazis openly exist in th...

Once I had unlocked the branches surrounding the creation of generation three synths, I got to work building all of the necessary machines. Even if I never assembled an actual synth, having each of the machines that produced the parts would most likely be invaluable, and not just for the ability to basically print out replacement parts that weren't cyberware. The machinery required was basically bespoke organ manufacturing, meaning that with a simple DNA sample, not only could I print biologi...

The guardian spirit and I sat down in the common area of the compound, the area lit up by hanging little bottles of light. Once we had settled down, I began to explain just why I had awakened him, and what had happened to the world since he had last gotten any glimpses. As an object to be worn, it would lay dormant between owners, meaning that for the last thirty or forty years, it had simply been asleep. Unsurprisingly, given the people he was pulling from, he was disturbed and angered by th...

I stared out at the forward viewport, watching the slowly shifting stars and the planet below. I knew that below us, there was a mining colony, slowly recovering from the latest raid of bandits. With any luck, it would be the last time they would have to deal with that.

"Sensors?" I called out, keeping my eyes forward. "Anything?"

"No, sir, no readings of any kind. Save the normal background noise from the colony," said the Bothan behind the sensor terminal. "The fleet is on stand...

In the last chapter, William Kalus managed to create his first spirit totem guardian! The spirit is sentient and needs a name!

In case anyone is curious, these are all slang names for the police in the US from various times that I am pretty sure aren't offensive.

Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 201 - Ahsoka Tano Interlude - III

After warming up and having something to eat at the Starcaller, Agent Yuca and Ahsoka discussed their plans with Vaz, who had remained on the Starcaller as a sort of trap. With the doors open and the proverbial keys in the ignition, Vas was waiting on the off chance Commander Gadic tried to run. Since the station's own ships were clearly guarded by commando droids, the Starcaller was a purposeful, tempting target.

When they finished filling Vaz in on thei...

After my rather dramatic statement, I rushed to the ritual platform, immediately diving into the first storage tree. I cast the spell that let me see spirits as I went through everything I had purchased, including some of the things I had specifically bought for this moment. Animism had been floating around in my head for around a week, so I had more than enough time to snag a couple of things while I was shopping. Most of them were useless, simple guesses I made at what might carry the kind ...

Kaytlyn begrudgingly donated a liter of blood for us to experiment with, but only after I explained just how incredible stimpaks had the potential to be. While Frank drew her blood, I started to formulate the artificial enzymes, which were named the catalyst enzyme and the guidance enzyme. Both of them were pretty complex and made me question how either of them could have possibly developed in nature first. Once everything was set up, I double-checked the seals and the valves on the laborator...

I wish I could say I waited through the next few hours with a reasonable level of relaxation and calm. Unfortunately, like usual, I could feel the rising anxiety concerning how I would spend my charges, and what my freebie would be this cycle. I wasn't quite as neurotic and panicky as I was for the first, and honestly, the second time. I was thankfully a little more used to the stress, at least enough that I wasn't thoroughly embarrassing myself. Still, I sure as hell wasn't about to sit stil...

Getting the proper security codes and clearance to engage with the base where Commander Gadic was stationed took only a few hours. General Draven presented Agent Yuca with a specialized Datapad containing clearance codes, as well as a verbal code that would essentially get them through the door. It would be her responsibility to make contact and introduce Ahsoka and Vaz. Which obviously meant she was going with them. Thankfully, the serious and professional agent was ready to go immediately, ...

The next few days were a wild, busy time. With the cracks in the ABB finally starting to break through, we were determined to finally put the nails in its coffin. New Wave was eager, almost desperate to help as if I had handed them a way to return to their glory, and they were eager to help. I assumed that had refound their passion, and Glory Girl explained that, while that was a part of it, they were also just thankful for a second chance. Hero work brought them together as a family, and aft...

Once my business was done for the day, I spent the rest of it expanding my knowledge of Fallout tech. It quickly settled into a huge black or white, on or off dichotomy in terms of usefulness, where I would be working on something boring, like a microwave. I would be struggling through the old, outdated tech, crossing my fingers and barely staying awake, before discovering that the magnetron, the main component of a microwave, had some sort of SCIENCE! based coating that reduces wear and tear...

The fight was over before it even started. Between my own enhancements, my golems, and Alya watching out for any surprises, the E88 dumbasses stood about the same chance as a snowball in hell. The only weapons they had were pistols and crappy melee weapons like pipes and bats, which were completely ineffective against any of us. All that meant that I had them cleaned up and tied up in just about five minutes. Once I did, I led them to the edge of the woods and called the cops.

After jumping at shadows and running from people who apparently weren't really chasing us, K'Kruhk and I spent some time calming everyone down and organizing everyone. To their credit, the younger Force-sensitives took directions well, moving and shifting our cargo around to create plenty of room for beds. We even set up a significant amount of crates and other stuff to act as chairs. It wasn't exactly a five-star resort, but it would do for an emergency evacuation.

Technically, i...
