Headquarters: Capital Wasteland - Chapter Nine

Joseph and I spent the rest of the day's good light scanning around the perimeter of the HQ, looking out at the expanse of the Capital Wasteland, trying to anticipate any potential threats. It was also a chance to get to know our surroundings without having to go anywhere. We could see several distant buildings that looked like they had been reinforced, with boarded-up windows and scrap defenses, though none of them were near us, thankfully.

To the south of the HQ was Washington DC prop...

The Brink and Back - Chapter Seventy - Sable, Rebecca and Vik Interlude

Sable Arcturus

Sable was not one to heavily indulge. She smoked, but more as a fidget habit and for the aesthetic than anything else. She drank on occasion but never in excess, and she never indulged in narcotics or BDs. By far, she preferred being in control of herself and absolutely despised the idea of having an addiction that took away her free will.

Some of this was a remnant of growing up in a home where disappointing your family was akin to the greatest sin imaginab...

Brockton Bay's Marvelous Mage - Chapter 105

As it always was, waiting for my cycle to tick over was filled with frayed nerves and anxiety-filled pacing. Despite consistently happening for months now, there was always the slight worry that maybe the previous time had been my final power-up and that I was now alone with whatever I had purchased. Eventually, to help pass the time and keep my mind off the shadows it liked to create, I started going through all of the material the PRT had gathered for me, organizing it in the storage trees ...

Rise of the Battlemage (Poll)

Hello everyone! So, I've been considering the idea of writing a whole chunk of interludes, possibly during a small time skip, from the point of view of the many citizens of Nirn and members of the Skyforged Vanguard. This would be several chapters from the point of view of farmers, builders, young jedi, mandalorian citizens, maybe a crewmember of one of the starships, former slaves and normal recruits.

This is me getting a feel for what you guys might think of an idea like this, so aft...

Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 235

Hello everyone! So, a bit of unfortunate news, some unforeseen issues meant I wasn't able to get some of my writing done for this week. Rather than mess up my whole schedule and end up causing more damage and stress than it's worth, I will be canceling Monday's chapter of Battlemage to compensate. I apologize, but the regular schedule will resume on Friday. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Headquarters: Capital Wasteland - Chapter Eight

Hello everyone! So, I had a bit of a realization about this story while writing this chapter, namely that I was being too restrictive about the connection between worlds. While, at the moment, it is impossible to transfer things from the dark worlds to Fallout, that is no longer a hard-coded, fiat-backed rule. I'm not sure what form, and to what extreme, that change will take/be, but know that that is now on the table. I hope everyone is enjoying the story so far!

The Brink and Back - Chapter Sixty Nine

The drive to Night City ended up being more entertaining than I would have thought, though Sable did not appreciate being laughed at. She was still clearly shocked by some of what I showed her, so every few minutes, she would bring up something else, and I would have to confirm that, yes, she had held and fired two different types of plasma pistols. Yes, I had stabbed myself and healed it in seconds with a single injection. Yes, that did mean my courser frame was completely biological. Yes, I...

Once both Cricket and Hookwolf, or rather the metal core that Hookwolf had retreated into, were dragged into the cage, I very quickly moved on to taking care of the dogs. I had to make my way through the warehouse and into the kennel, almost vomiting as I approached it. The stench was horrific, and every step closer made it worse and worse. The smell of feces and urine was like a physical wave as I opened the door and stepped inside, wondering how the hell Crow had withstood the smell and not...

It didn't take me long to make my way to the Chariot's private hangar, since it was purposely close to the bridge. The bay had a few droid guards on duty, watching the doors, as well as several other droids scanning the ship for any faults. The starship hadn't even seen much action during the mission to save Clan Galti, but routine maintenance on such complicated machinery was still necessary.

I greeted Calima as I made my way through the ship, the pilot happily reading in the ...

After this coming chapter, I plan on having another interlude. The first chunk will be Sable, but after that I want two different perspectives, which you guys get to choose!

(The first and second place decides who the interlude follows. Potentially third as well, depending on how I feel and how the chapter goes. )

Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 233

As always, arriving back at Nirn was a weight off my shoulders. It had taken a few extra days, as we were forced to wait in deep space for the Rebellion to pick up their new ship and hand over payment for it. Watching the Arquitens go was more than a little painful, but the three million credits were nice, as was the increase in the Rebellion's debt.

I just had to remind myself that there would be other opportunities to pick up ships like the Arquitens. After all, the Imperial Navy was ...

Both Joseph and I were silent as we crossed the large cleared area on which the HQ and Barracks stood. As we walked, both of us kept a close eye on the vague entrances to the large area, worried about who might see us and who might come to investigate. Despite the exposed feeling I got any time I stepped outside the HQ. I already felt a bit lighter. The weight of my task, of our very survival, seemed a bit lighter now that I had another fighter by my side. Someone who, for all intents and pur...

I had only made a few more steps before we made it to the workshop. We passed the open garage entrance for the smaller door beside it, stepping in as it opened.

"So, I'm pretty sure that by now you've figured out that I'm not a normal inventor," I said as I led her into the side room of the workshop.

"I figured that out when you showed off that flashy energy pistol the first time we met," she responded, looking around the room. "It's only gotten worse since then. Is this what you ...

Despite my sudden revelation of what my new strategy was going to be, there wasn't much of a change in the moment. I wrote down a few topics I could consider investing in to help with my new plan of building an Endbringer-killing army, but I intended to let the plan settle a little in my mind for a while. I had another day to think on it, after all, and since the angle of my approach had shifted so much, I would use every second.

Time passed, and eventually the group sat down to have di...

After my audience had recovered from my transmutation of platinum into beskar, both Vi and her people looked at me in a considerably different light. I had backed up my claims at creating beskar, as close to a holy metal as they had, and suddenly my previous words did not seem quite as rambling or unbelievable.

I could tell that some of them were at least hearing and taking in my words, while quite a few others disliked what I had said about their ancestors and tradition. Vi Galti was i...

It didn't take long to get the Mandalorians settled in the various rooms of the Boxi's Fury. We had more than enough, especially since we had just recently gotten all of the families and non-ship stationed people down to Vercopa, living in real apartments and homes.

Once everyone was comfortable and situated in a room, food was distributed, four days' worth for each person. I decided on that amount deliberately, despite the fact that the trip to the abandoned mining colony woul...

Headquarters: Capital Wasteland - Chapter Six

I was halfway down the stairs to the third floor, trying to scrape the radroach gunk off my boot as I walked, when I realized I had missed something rather obvious. Something fundamental to the idea of clearing buildings, something so quintessential to Fallout that I felt kinda dumb for not realizing it sooner.

I had cleared the building, now it was time to loot.

Shaking my head, I made my way back up the stairs to the top floor, looking around at where I should start....

With my schedule for the rest of the day and tomorrow pretty much set, I realized that I was suddenly running out of free time to build. This was the fifth day of my break week, and while I didn't bother to check the countdown directly, I could still feel it ticking by.

Thankfully, I could reliably lean on Samwise for a good chunk of what needed to be done. He was more than capable of picking up my slack, and now that the vault was switching to a mostly automatic building process, he ha...

We arrived at the previously agreed upon location, meeting Glory Girl, Laserdream, Lady Photon, and Manpower in a parking lot just outside Empire territory. Alya stayed dispersed, but I did explain to the others that she had had a bit of an epiphany with her powers, so they could expect her to be participating more. She whispered a hello to everyone, promising to appear more in private settings, but since she was still one of the final aces I had up my sleeve, she would remain a secret public...

Despite my attempt to redirect the focus to their wounded, the leader of Clan Galti, Vi Galti, was not so eager to let me help. She had seen my magic as I fought, but was skeptical enough not to immediately bow to my demands. I couldn't even blame her, but it was more than a little frustrating.

"We have plenty of trained medics," She assured me. "They are already doing what they can. Those who can survive are being treated, and those who won't will be made comfortable."

"No,...

Hello everyone! So we have had five chapters of Headquarters, enough that the foundation of the story is semi stable, and now I would like to know your thoughts! What you like, what you disliked, where you hope it goes, what your nervous about, things you think might be a problem and everything in between. I am very curious to hear peoples opinions about the concept, and about where they see/hope the future of the story will be. So please, leave a comment telling me your thoughts!

We had barely stepped thirty feet into the cave before we needed to turn on our night vision. There were clearly lights and cables lining the tunnel walls, but they were either off or had been sabotaged. Thankfully, our night vision was high quality and didn't hamper our vision in any appreciable way.

As we moved deeper and deeper, it quickly became apparent that some pretty serious fighting had taken place, with dozens of stormtroopers lying dead along the ground, as well as the occasi...

Headquarters: Capital Wasteland - Chapter Five

Within five minutes of turning back to head home, I was feeling rather silly. Sure, the massive machine, which I remembered was called a Horus, was shockingly large and intimidating looking, but between the enormous hole in its head and several detached and broken tentacles, this one was clearly dead.

Still, there was something unnerving about it, seeing something so immense, something that I knew was extremely dangerous, that could tear down whole armies. It almost... loomed over...

Wearing the power armor was shockingly easy. The control system was nearly seamless, with negligible delay, and with inside the helmet a full-scale screen showing the outside, there was almost no loss in vision. The second we returned to the forest, Alya dropped to her knees, her form shifting and flashing before it exploded in a blast of damp wind. For a moment, I thought she had disincorporated completely, like she did when she ran out of energy entirely. After a second, however, I realized I could still feel her through our bond, the elemental jumping into her uncondensed form, seemingly out of shock. It took a few seconds for me to figure it out, but eventually I realized she had come pretty clos...

The closer we got to our destination, the more the tension in the ship began to climb. Our plan hinged on what was essentially our opening move, and if that failed, our only real options were to put up a fight and potentially ruin our ships in the process or to put full energy into shields and run.

Potentially leaving the covert to die.

When the timer ran down to the last hour, final preparations began. Droid deployment patterns were double and triple-checked, as were ...
