Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 25

Surprise! I am increasing Patron benefits across the board! Depending on your tier, you could be getting access to up to double the early chapters. Just a warning, make sure you're reading these updates in order. I have them scheduled one minute apart, so all new content should be out by 11:10 AM EST

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sparse, rocky, dry landscape made making our way to the stronghold a simple, if lengthy, process. The droids took turns pulling themselves for the most part, thei...
Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 24
We spent another hour coming up with the plan, working together to forge something that was serviceable and that we hoped wouldn't immediately fall apart.
The plan was to travel to the planet on the B-7, landing a far distance from the base before hoofing it the rest of the way to avoid setting off any sensors. Meanwhile, Nova would remain in orbit in her own ship, along with a few others. If everything went south, we could bring them in for some air support, which would really just amo...
Mettle, Metal, Meddled - Chapter 66 - Use the Force
Once the Chaos Lord retreated to parts unknown, both of his companions attempted to retreat as well. Felix Faust summoned a portal of his own, disappearing with a flash of light that temporarily blinded Superboy, Ice, and Robin. Blackbriar Thorn, on the other hand, tried to retreat by summoning a gnarled chariot of thick vines around himself to carry him away but only made it a few dozen yards before Garth and Aqualad cut it out from under him, and Tula smacked him around with her own magic w...
Once again, it is time to name a starship!
The crew's first ship will be a C-ROC Gozanti Class! Now, its time to pick a name! I have a list of five or six names already , but I wanted to give you all the option to suggest your own. Keep in mind is that this post will only stay up for a day or three, as I want to make the final list by Friday, so that you can vote for the final name! Also, I reserve veto rights at this stage, but you guys will get final say once I collate the final list. So far, my own ideas are:
Last Resort: The Road Home - Prologue + 1-5
Hello everyone! I'm happy to release the first five chapters of my next book, Last Resort: The Road Home. I do want to note one thing about these early chapters. Due  to a change in how I plan on editing this, these early chapters are COMPLETELY UNEDITED. I ended editing Bloodsport a few times more than I really needed to because of later changes. In an effort to avoid that I am leaving bigger chunks of the story unedited, before going back and editing them all together. Thanks for under...
Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 23
Hello everyone! Just wanted to give a quick warning. The first link, just but into the start, is a interior model I made with some tabletop map making tools. Its crude, missing a few things and is far far far from perfect, but it does give you the general sense of what the ship looks like. The length of a square is roughly one meter, but its hard to scale everything properly with such crude tools. Still, I think it serves its purpose! Thanks for waiting, enjoy the chapter!
Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 22
Nevue explained that the trip would take about eighteen hours, as the shipbroker was stationed in a distant corner of the galaxy, along the edge of Wild Space. Their business was located in deep space, on a repair platform that only a few people know the location of, as most of their business was done by delivery or pick up. I was excited to have such a chunk of time to learn some new magic until I remembered our extra passengers.
The two rebel soldiers, who were essentially acting as b...
Mettle, Metal, Meddled - Chapter 65 - Defending the tower
The projection "Leading" us turned out to be glowing directional lights pulsing on the path we were supposed to take. All of us ran together, making quick time through several rooms, a few of which made very little sense. One was upside down, while another was the shape of a giant sphere, forcing us to slide down one side and jump and pull ourselves up the other. The last room, the one with the exit, was a massive kitchen, but not in terms of usable space. Instead, the room was twice, maybe t...
Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 21
The rebel workers made quick work of clearing out the B-7 cargo bay, emptying it of everything we didn't want in only an hour, which included the time we were off meeting General Syndulla. When workers hauled away the last crate, all that was left was the stuff we had brought from Nar Shaddaa, the MRV, and three crates, we wanted to keep from the ship's original cargo. The stolen cargo we kept was actually a mix of several different containers. A few extra pistols, rifles, and ammo from one c...
Battlemage's first interlude!
So, its time for Battlemage to get its first interlude (spoilers if your not caught up). I have several ideas, and now its your turn to pick one.
Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 20
Nevue stepped out of the cargo bay slowly, his hands out and empty as he moved. When he was a few feet ahead of us, he stopped.
"I'm Nevue Loc. I messaged ahead that I was returning?" He called out, his voice echoing throughout the large stone hangar.
After a few seconds, a head popped out around the corner of one of the entrances into the large empty hangar bay. It stuck out just long enough for Nevue to spot it before dipping back around the corner. He smiled and called out.
Mettle, Metal, Meddled - Chapter 64 - Lightning strikes twice
We watched while Kid Flash was drained of a considerable amount of blood using a blood donation kit. When the procedure was done, the Flash guided him to a chair by the far corner of the marble slab. His blood was taken and poured into a bucket before two cups of finely ground metal was mixed in and stirred with a simple wooden stick that still had its bark. When Queen Mera seemed satisfied with it, she handed the bucket to Kent, who looked inside it and nodded. He then took a paintbrush from...
Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 19
Nevue put the ship in hyperspace, pausing for a moment as we all watched the stars fly by in the dazzling display. Eventually, after everyone had left, Nevue got up to go as well, leaving the cockpit empty save Nal and me.
It was stunning that this ship, which was more or less on the lower end of speed according to everyone, was capable of crossing a not insignificant portion of the galaxy in less than a day. I knew my companions were annoyed that the low quality of the ship's hyperdriv...
Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 18
It turns out that when Nevue said we needed to say hello, he wasn't using a turn of phrase or making a joke. The first thing he did when he sat down in the pilot's seat was tap a few buttons and flip a switch, a panel lighting up and beeping out a series of tones and warbles that repeated every five seconds.
"What's that?" Miru asked, leaning over to look at the panel.
"It's the friendly signal," Nevue explained, taking control of the ship and reorienting it, a large planet fillin...
Mettle, Metal, Meddled - Chapter 63 - The root cause
The retired hero led us further into the field, which to our eyes, was completely empty. I could tell Wally was struggling not to call him out for leading us to what looked like nowhere, his logical side at war with the rest of him. About thirty feet into the field, our patience was rewarded as a seam appeared in the air, and a medieval-style wooden door was suddenly in front of us. It creaked open to let Kent and Flash walk in, the rest of us stuck, staring at the doorway. When Kent realized...
For those who celebrate, Happy Easter! For those who don't, I hope your April is going well!
Eventually, I got bored looking at the streaking lights out of the cockpit window and left to explore the rest of the ship in more detail. It was far from what I was hoping to buy for us once we were done dropping Nevue off and selling our extra goods, but it was clearly in better shape than the slaver ship we had sold. I was hoping to find a ship that would allow us to expand ...
Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 16
Head trauma has a funny way of messing with your sense of time. I've been knocked out twice before this, once during a little league game and again a few years ago while I was celebrating my twenty-seventh birthday. Just three beers was enough to help a simple slip turn into a tumble down the stairs.
Being unconscious was like a deep sleep, one that you sometimes snap out of immediately, coming to after a few seconds. Sometimes, though, it likes to hang around. Your consciousness starts...
Mettle, Metal, Meddled - Chapter 62 - Magic man
We spent two days recovering from our latest mission and the patrols beforehand. We all felt that even a singular full day off was overkill, especially considering that our given career paths would require us to keep very flexible hours and be prepared to work through tiredness and fatigue. Despite that, Batman insisted that we take two days off to recover. Rather than complain and try to undermine his orders, we decided to pick our battles. The first day was boring, but relaxing, which was f...
Hello! I wanted to apologize for the late post. I would like to say that there was some grand reason, but really I just forgot today was a posting day. I hope you enjoy, and sorry again for the lateness.
Wait, that?” Miru asked, turning to look at me with a surprised look. “Leaving? Already? We… we’ve barely done anything! What about freeing more slaves, robbing the bastards who… who did this to us?”
“Miru, kiddo… We can’t do anything t...
Nal immediately sped ahead of us, turning down to follow the convoy down the smaller back road. I could feel Miru speed up, the speeder truck tilting slightly as she pushed the repulsorlifts to their limits. It didn’t take long for us to catch up, Miru gently landing us at the road entrance, just in time to see Nal spin around much further down the road, now facing us.
The convoy had already stopped, the turrets of the two armed speeders spinning to target Nal. He started peppering al...
Mettle, Metal, Meddled - Chapter 61 - Results - Justice League Interlude
The low thrum of the air filtration system, as well as the hum of the energy systems, was the only background noise permeating the hermetically sealed meeting room of the Justice League. The whine of servo motors moving was just barely audible over the ambient noise as Red Tornado stood from his chair. He scanned the room, letting the silence hang for a few seconds to ensure everyone was ready to hear his report. Additionally, his data on human interactions showed that humans frequently prefe...
Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 13
Explaining everything to Nevue took about an hour, during which he ate two full meals. He listened with rapt and analytical attention, absorbing everything we said. Thankfully everyone seemed to pick up on my first hint, leaving my special abilities out when describing everything. When we were eventually done, he looked at each of us before settling on me.
“So, you're targeting slavers to make enough money to buy your own ship and leave Nar Shaddaa?” He asked, continuing when I nodd...
Tatnia nearly jumped out of her seat at Miru’s statement, her face reddened with anger. Before she could say anything stupid and potentially hurt her relationship with Miru, I snapped a crackle of electricity at her. It was only a split-second long cast of the sparks spell, which I only cast at a third of its usual strength. It was an interesting trick I was only just starting to learn with some of the spells that took a continuous drain of magic.
The zap hit her in the leg, causing i...
Rise of the Battlemage - What kind of ship will they buy?
While I have a few ideas of my own, I would love to hear suggestions from you. In a few days I will collate a list of suggestions and my own ideas and put together an official poll for people to vote on. Some suggestions to make this easier:
  • The more info about the ship that exists the better. Layouts are the holy grail.
  • I will accept out of universe designs, but only reasonable suggestions. This would essentially be flavor text that I would wrap around a similar ship fro...
Mettle, Metal, Meddled - Chapter 60 - Breaching!
We silently made our way from Bioship, which landed in a far-off parking lot, around to the warehouse, our grouping shifting slightly as we moved to take down the above-ground patrols. Once we gained entrance through a padlocked back door, handily picked open by Snapshot, we spread out even further. Those of us who knew how to take down someone quietly made their way to their targets.
Superboy and I took down a pair of guards patrolling the ground floor at the back of the huge building,...
As planned, we flew for about fifteen minutes before Miru and Tatnia landed in an empty alleyway deep in one of the city sectors. The moment we landed beside them, Miru all but ran into the cargo space of the A-A5 and grabbed her tools before descending on the speeders. She inspected every corner and spot she could think of, looking for trackers or any other issues, spending a half hour before she was finally satisfied.
The rest of us nervously kept watch while she worked, waiting for t...
Star Wars: Rise of the Battlemage - Chapter 10
We arrived in the general area of the market and quickly decided it was too heavily populated for us to hang around unnoticed. Instead, we flew around a little longer and found a tucked-away alley next to a run-down building. It wasn't abandoned from what we could tell, but it may as well have been. The permacrete walls were covered with graffiti, and while we got quite a few looks, no one said anything. When Nal pulled the speeder bike into the alley next to us, he looked around and shrugged...
