Watching Blizzard: No, really, what are we supposed to do for two weeks?

Rossi posed the question of what everyone’s doing before the WoW expansion launches and, honestly, I don’t know. I suppose it’s a nice quiet time to grind out old achievements and transmogs, but I’m having trouble working up the enthusiasm. I suppose there’s Hearthstone to kill time with in the meanwhile, though… oh, yeah, and something called the news. Can’t for...

Watching Blizzard: Want news? We’ve got news

Monday newsday! While we haven’t yet hit the exciting event of the week (i.e. tomorrow’s rollout of the next chuck of World of Warcraft pre-expansion story), there’s plenty to talk about, so let’s get right to it.

Did last week’s Jaina video make you wonder about her father?

Lore Watch Episode 80: Jaina Proudmoore and Sylvanas Windrunner

This week our Lore Watchers Anne, Matt, and Joe take a look at Warbringers: Jaina, and Jaina’s life in general – which dovetails nicely into WoW’s pre-expansion War of the Thorns event, and the actions of Sylvanas Windrunner. It’s an exploration of good and evil and the lives of two of Azeroth’s well-known leaders leading up to Battle for Azeroth.

For Patrons, we're happy to give you access to the episode before everyone else - enjoy it 2018-07-29 22:30:31 +0000 UTC View Post

Watching Blizzard: We’re all about Overwatch League (again)

If you've been reading these silly things for long, you know how much I like to wax poetic about my favorite underdog Overwatch League team, the Shanghai Dragons. Since the regular season — and the Dragons' matches — came to a close, I haven't had much to say about OWL. But the grand finals just kicked off and all I can say is... what a game. The first match between Fusion and London was a nail-biter that was absolutely great to watch. (If you're an Overwatch fan of any lev...

Watching Blizzard: No one tell her

So, do you think High Inquisitor Whitemane in Heroes of the Storm knows she became a Death Knight in WoW? Because that seems like something she maybe wouldn’t approve of, and I’m a little worried how she’ll react when she finds out. Maybe we’ll just … never tell her.

All of that said, let’s get to the news… starting with Whitemane.

Watching Blizzard: Also there's a chicken

In the Boomsday Project trailer, poor Peter Whalen was turned into a chicken and I don't think anyone is sufficiently worried about that. Even in the most recent card reveal stream, Brian Kibler seemed pretty chill with his chicken co-host. But Hearthstone loves its teasers, and hasn't gotten around to telling us just how Peter escapes his feathery fate. We're up to Boomsday teaser video #4 now, and Peter is still a chicken (though he's no longer a robot chicken),...

Watching Blizzard: Everything’s coming up Peacebloom

There's a lot going on out in the world of Blizzard, but it's a relatively quiet day on Blizzard Watch. So let's hit up the features on the site today and then move on to the other news.

The pre-expansion event has kicked off!

Watching Blizzard: The word of the day is...

Jaina. The word is definitely Jaina. And if you try to tell me that Jaina is a name, not a word, I will counter that it can be both. Today, we got a whisper of Jaina's story, and it was beautiful and terrifying. Let's take a look at it (and everything else).

It's all about Jaina. Did I mention Jaina? Jaina!

Watching Blizzard: It's all about the sparkle

Who's ready for the weekend? Me. Definitely me. And probably you, too. So let's check out the news and then head off into a weekend full of video games and Netflix and, I don't know, whatever else you kids do for fun.

So what happened today?

Watching Blizzard: It's been a post-patch sort of day

It may not be patch day anymore, but that doesn’t mean our problems are over. Patch day was a bit shaky and there are still plenty of bugs, which is probably why Ion Hazzikostas spent the first ten minutes of today’s Q&A apologizing and explaining what happened. This Q&A didn’t feel like it had much in the way of new information, but Ion’s description of some of the behind the scenes tech was inte...

Watching Blizzard: Busy bees

It's patch day in World of Warcraft, and the servers are back up and running patch 8.0.1. Mostly. As with any patch day, there's been some small, itsy bitsy amount of instability. (I'm starting to think I really should have made a "maybe" image for our "are the servers up" post.)  But all in all, successful patch day! Welcome to the Battle for Azeroth world. I hope you like i...

Watching Blizzard: A new beginning

Ah, the day before the day. In the morning the WoW servers will go down and patch 8.0 will start rolling out. It's the end of a lot of things, but it's also a new beginning. Battle for Azeroth is just around the corner.

So let's take a look at the news.

Start your journey into Battle for Azeroth by reading the patch notes

Lore Watch Episode 79: A Legion retrospective

This week our Lore Watchers Anne, Matt, and Joe decided to use this last Sunday before the launch of 8.0 to take a look back at the lore and story of Legion as a whole. What worked? What didn’t? Was Legion missing anything? All this and more are discussed in an hour of reminiscing about the expansion we’re about to say goodbye to. We’ll miss you Legion!

Watching Blizzard: It’s quiet… maybe too quiet…

After the big reveal that patch 8.0 is arriving on Tuesday (or Wednesday for those of you in Europe), it's been a quiet day for all things Blizzard. Still, we'll work with what we've got. Here's the Blizzard day in review.

Definitely our top news story

Watching Blizzard: And now we know!

The big news came late in the day on Thursday. (I was in Antorus fighting Coven at the time, but fortunately Mitch responded to my SOS and wrote it up so I didn’t have to try to summarize all things 8.0 between pulls.) as many of us expected, WoW’s big patch day is coming next week: 8.0 is dropping on July 17. So what else is there to t...

Watching Blizzard: Back to enjoying Overwatch League

Finally! Overwatch League has returned to us: the playoffs kicked off tonight and they'll be going on for three weeks. So we're back to the glorious days of esports (though done with the glorious days of the Shanghai Dragons, at least until next season). After those three weeks, we will be back living a quieter life, devoid of esports. (Mostly. There's always Heroes and Hearthstone.)

But until then, we're going to enjoy it. Here's the news.

Overwatch League is b...

Watching Blizzard: This Tuesday is patch day, next Tuesday is probably patch day...

These days, Blizzard has enough games to make Tuesday always patch day. Which is to say that even though World of Warcraft didn't get 8.0, we still had two patches roll out today. (Mathematically, that's a lot. Trust me on this.)

So let's get on with it and talk about the news.

Did I mention it's patch day?

Watching Blizzard: On our way to the expansion (but not that fast)

Another day over, another day closer to Battle for Azeroth. But maybe not that close (yet) because we probably won’t have a pre-patch this week. (I got to break out our fab Illidan no GIF and everything to talk about it.) But instead of being in game working on my last minute grinds, I’m here with you, looking through the news for the answers to life. They are not there, but...

Watching Blizzard: Another day, another...?

It's a relatively quiet day in the world of Blizzard (which is not actually the same as Blizzard World), so let's take a brief stroll through the news and then get to our games.

You're going to need more experience to level in Battle for Azeroth

  • With BfA's giant zones, it was all too easy to zoom through the levels without finishing the zones. Sure, scaling keeps it from getting too easy, but it did make the leveling experience fe...

Watching Blizzard: Discombobulated

Is it the end of the week? The beginning of the week? With a holiday landing right in the center of the work-week, I've spent all day typing away and trying to decide.

I'm still not sure.

So instead of confusing myself further, let's take a look at today's (somewhat skimpy) holiday week news.

Surprise! It's a Heroes of the Storm nerf

  • Heroes has a habit of pushing content and then nerfing it to "ba...

Watching Blizzard: Happy holidays everyone!

I'm just going to say that if you didn't hear that headline in Jack Skellington's voice I am disappointed in you. Sure, it isn't Christmas or Halloween, but it's still a holiday (at least for some of us). So happy early holiday to our American readers, and happy Tuesday to the rest of you. Tomorrow is downtime for the Blizzard Watch crew (and probably Blizzard, too), so don't expect anything to be happening over here. However, I will be writing the Queue (unless I forget about it between now and...

Watching Blizzard: At least it's a short week

Ah, another terrible and thrilling work-week is upon us (at least for those of us on weekday grind). But it's (hopefully) the end of the workday for everyone reading this, so let's ignore the outside world for a little while and talk about video games. Then maybe we could play some video games. Perfect.

Ever wanted to try the Hearthstone Arena?

Lore Watch Episode 78: What are souls, anyway?

This week our Lore Watchers Anne, Matt, and Joe jump into answering your emails, but get distracted by a lengthy discussion about the Light, death, undeath, the naaru, what happens after you die, Calia Menethil, and the nature of souls in World of Warcraft. It’s a wild ride from start to finish – please note, there are spoilers in this show for Before the Storm. If you haven’t finished the novel yet, you may want to hold off on listening until you’re done.
