Parable - 30 - HD

Commentary

There are two reasons I decided to have Tensaided do a sales pitch:

1 - Fun!

2 - I thought it would let me work ahead.

These three panels took me longer than most story comics.

I fail at strategy.

I've mentioned before that curvy = magic in this because I didn't want to imitate what Fable 2 actually does (blue lines that make me think of veins all over your character), a...

Fable 2 is, naturally, the most 100% played game in all of history, right?

Commentary

I spent a lot of time getting the poses just how I wanted with this one, though once completed, it's just like "well, this doesn't look that complicated".

I contemplated so many ways to pose panel two! It was like quantum physics! As far as I know! I'm using quantum physics as hyperbole because it sounds like something that would be complicated and difficult, thoug...

One might say Susan is doing the "Naruto run", but no.

Naruto does the Susan run.

Okay, but let's be serious.

They're all doing the Mario. Run. The Mario run.

No one's doing the Mario.

Unless they are, but that's a dance.

We're talking about running.

Relativity

Commentary

I don't know if the logic here actually adds up, and I also have no idea how you'd test it. It's not about wearing things that make you appear bigger, it's about suddenly having reduced density with increased volume while maintaining equal strength, weight, and mobility. I don't think it's something that can truly be replicated in an actual physical universe.

Which, given that is the case, let's just say it does make sense. HOORAY!

I'm not sure if this is 100% or 50% max weight. It might depend on reactions to this, or whether I get bored and decide on the latter regardless.

Commentary

It's only fair. I did foreshadow pies that have yet to be utilized.

My strategy for heavier Susan's design was just taking how she was before and adding weight. Normally I might agonize more than that, but no. Take panel one, add a little weight, kablam. That's the design.

And yes, that is quite th...

Commentary

That's on a scale of 100, by the way.

I saw no satisfactory way to proceed without clothes also changing with Susan, but I also didn't want her figure to be obscured by thick clothing and a cape.

And so did we set sail for the SEA OF COMPROMISE, and after an exciting fight with pirates, we lowered the anchor.

Also, it gave me a chance to comment on the consequences of attractiveness being linked to fancy clothes, so, you know. Bon...

Technically, it's not the best composition to have him hold the potion in a way that overlaps with him like that, but it's actually a clever demonstration on why you should pose characters so their silhouette helps suggest what they're doing, making it actually quite clever so there.

She would have noticed this sooner, but Blacksmith Dunkel in particular was, um... Distracting, let's say.

Commentary

"Only most of them."

Presumably, whose voices they have are variable, so they probably don't all sound like Elliot.

Susan is putting her glasses back on in the first panel because I forgot to draw them in the previous comic, and decided I liked how it looked better without them anyway. It's now canon that they fell off at some point, ma...

"Perhaps a side quest? There are quite a few. They're mostly taking out bandits, but there's occasional unique dialogue? No?"

"Ooh, you can also SIDE with bandits! You don't like farmers, right? You do like farmers? I guess that's natural. They do provide food for everyone. Sort of self-defeating to attack them, thinking long term."

"Right. I'll just read through a...

Genie Poll

Of these characters, who would you rather see as a genie granting wishes?

This would be for an NP storyline. I'm not looking for any suggestions within the story itself, just who would be preferred for the role.

There's a chance I won't go with the winner, but only if I find I'm not happy with story resulting from it. I will at the very least try to write something with the winner.

Every option will result in transformations and wishes gone ...

Non-Personal Space.

Commentary

"Blacksmith Dunkel" is definitely more buff than canon Elliot Dunkel, and one reason for that is simply that all things are relative, and I didn't want him to look puny next to buff hero Susan.

Could canon Elliot achieve such mass? Possibly. I imagine he'd have to add regular weight lifting to his exercise routines, but there's nothing saying he can't do that.

Ah, good. Susan's grown out of her chibi phase.

Commentary

I had severe writer's block prior to making this comic, which is clear evidence that I was distracted by other matters, because this is perhaps the most obvious commentary one could make on Fable 2.

That note at the bottom is entirely to keep my own mind from violently rejecting this as being something Susan wrote.

The world's most sparkly landlord.

Commentary

Susan's outfit in the last panel is inspired by none other than Scrooge McDuck, though there are, of course, key differences. That said, Scrooge should consider a rad cape like that.

Such an outfit is on point for this parody, the equivalent in-game being "noble" clothing.

"Hero, please. Narration was my father's name."

Commentary

In Fable 2, you have Good and Evil, but you also have Purity and Corruption. When corrupt, you looked pretty gross, and I recall there being persistent flies around the character (ew) that didn't always go away properly when purity was restored.

When pure, however, you were clean and sparkly. In theory, anyway. I definitely remember an issue with getting rid of those accursed flies.

I can only imagine what manner of dreadful theater Diane saw. Probably involved someone dressed like a chicken being kicked.

Commentary

I had wanted Rhea to say "dweeb" instead of "Diane", but this was already the most self-indulgent comic in an already self-indulgent storyline without me making it even more likely people would miss the Cheers reference.

It's tempting to have Susan tie people up in more suggestive ways while having no clue she's doing it, but it's ALSO super tempting to have them tied up in super easy to draw ways forever and ever.

Commentary

Part of me really wanted to have the bandit say "puppy sanctuary" instead of "puppy orphanage" in the last panel, as the latter makes me wonder about tragic puppy backstories, whereas the former could just be some place with a bunch of adorable puppies.

Susan's into tying people up. Got it.

Commentary

I chose to draw this storyline in my standard drawing style with normal proportions, and found I didn't like the idea of Susan running around and killing bandits without the extra layer of absurdity added by more cartoonish proportions.

Fortunately, I feel this is in character for her, and it gave me the opportunity to comment on something else.

Gotta go (effectively) fast!

Commentary

Slow Time in Fable 2 had two functions:

Not Targeted - Slows down time for a variable number of seconds.

Targeted - Rushes you at a target, and gives you a damage boost if you attack fast enough.

I suppose what Susan does here could be viewed as "not targeted" and doing things while time is slowed, but I imagine it's not a shock to anyone that there is no option to mess with people's outfits or ste...

Slow Time is the Rock of magic Rock Paper Scissors.

Commentary

I talked about this in an earlier commentary, but my policy is always that these commentaries are optional reads, and this "magic at no real cost" dealie and the ability to just use magic over and over indefinitely is something I want everyone on the same page on.

Also, an excuse for Susan being sassy.

This skirt's not made for walkin'...

It would actually be valid commentary on a variety of RPG games if she were to just "unequip all", but you win some, and you lose some, by making Susan your protagonist.

Commentary

This comic is brought to you by the nagging thought of "how is Susan supposed to fight bandits in a tight long skirt".

Don't worry, she found a solution.

I'm parodying the Fable games, here, but the game that really opened up my eyes to moral choice possibility in games was Fallout 3. Prior to that, I thought the ability to be good or evi...
