Hey everyone! Smaugust has officially started yesterday, and I have a prompt list that I'm gonna try my best to stick to (check it out on my insta if you haven't and consider participating because it's fun)!
Here's a narrated process video for the first dragon - the TL;DW of it is: If you try to overcomplicate your image, you'll most likely just wind up wasting your time trying so make it simple and clear again. Also, just kill off things that don't work well a...

Finally, the long awaited continuation video where I talk about lighting is here! There will be a part 2 to this, where I'll talk mostly about rendering shadows and adding hue variety.
As always, if you have any questions or thoughts, you're more than welcome to post them in the comments!
God bless,
Ognjen

Hey everyone!
Here's a video process of a self-portrait I recently finished, accompanied by my monologue about improvement in art and what I think it takes to become actually really good and not just intermediate. This one is kinda philosophical and maybe a bit different than what I usually do, but so much of art is personal and I don't see it talked about enough in this way.
Hope this is insightful, and if you have any thoughts on this or any other comments, feel free to write em...

Hey eveyone,
I wanted to use this recent painting of Archangel Raphael to talk a bit more about the freedom you have when selecting colors, and the primacy of value over color when conveying from. I've already talked about this a bit in this video: https://youtu.be/CXugpKLIy44
The first face example in this breakdown had the colors for shadow, light and halftone sampled from the Raphael painting:

Hey everyone, here's a new process video, this time slowed a bit less - 5x speed for a real time of 2 and a half hours!
This process is a bit different, since I start with a rougher drawing, take that into a grayscale painting and colorize with layer modes after that, so you could say it's a more painterly and free approach.
By the way, I'm still getting a hold on recording and using my mic, but I think the ...

Here's a new mini tutorial that's sort of connected to the previous one, and I'll do another one about rendering after the block-in as a follow-up.
Let me know if you have any questions or ideas about this!

Hey everyone, here's a portrait I recently finished as a part of a personal project! I'm not entirely happy with it, especially compared to the 2 previous ones, but I want to use it as an example of value grouping.
My goal with this image was to have a very clear graphic read of the beard and clothing, while keeping the skin value range very narrow. What this means, in other words, is that the contrast between the light and shadow in these areas is very low - being virtually nonex...

Hey everyone! The tiers have been officially updated from today, which means that the Disciple (1$) tier now no longer gets access to the new content, while still being able to see some of the older posts. Consider switching over to Scholar for new goodies, I'll still be posting 2-3 times a week with the same content that's been coming over the past 2 weeks :D
Cheers!

Hey all!
Here's a fairly quick video explaining how to add color variety and intentionality to your shadows, displayed through using a Multiply layer and a direct painting approach. Hope this is useful or insightful, and as always, feel free to leave any feedback or questions in the comments and I'll try to address them either in the replies or in the next video!
God bless,

Hey everyone! Here's a breakdown of my latest personal painting, along with a PSD with named layers (from a stage before I merge the layers, the final image is just 1 layer)
If you have any specific questions about any step or any other subject, feel free to post em in the comments! A new video about colors/lighting coming tomorrow probably.

Hey everyone! Here's finally my first narrated process video. Sorry for any clunkiness, I still gotta get a better hang of recording voiceovers.
Anyway, this whole painting took around 5 and a half hours and is sped up 12x.
The artist whose brushes I mentioned I had used is RHADS (https://www.instagram.com/rhadso/) ,you can find brushes and tuts in his linktree.
Hope this vid is helpful, a...

Another breakdown of a commission process along with a first attempt that I discarded. If you find something doesn't work and you're just not feeling it (even if you don't really know why that is), it's almost always a better idea to scrap it sooner than later.

Hey everyone, here's the first mini tutorial! I'll get better at doing these with time, if anything is confusing or you have any related or unrelated questions, feel free to drop em down in the comments
Here are the basic smudges I use (mostly the blocky one): https://www.ctrlpaint.com/downloads
Also any suggestions about more video tutorial topics or other ideas are welcome

Here are the WIP shots of a few characters done for MoonColony's Discord challenge, figured this might be interesting to see! You can see my basic approach being repeated on all of these, starting with lineart, into flat colors, multiply and screen layers for shadow and light, and then merging it all down and rendering.

Hey everyone!
I've been letting this Patreon lay dormant for a while now, but I've also been planning to start trying to go more independent with my art for a while as well, so I decided to start taking the Patreon more seriously, as well as producing instructional content and teaching in the near future.
That's why I'm adding a new tier - which will now be called the Scholar, where I will post the content I had done before, but better, improved ...

Hey everyone, I've been quite absent lately, but I intend to start taking this patreon more seriously! I'll be posting more breakdowns of process, with some text explanations, and I also wanna start doing little tips and tidbits and videos with voice-overs.
Anyway, here's a breakdown on the process of a recent commission, as well as the sketches for it. Hope you enjoy it!
More stuff coming soon!
