I'm ahead!

For the first time in a billion years, I'm ahead of the comic update schedule by ONE night. It's not much, and I doubt I'll keep it or get anything done. But it feels nice to not have a deadline looming over me for once. Even if the deadline has become a bit looser, every time I've missed it feels like a short jab in the ribs.

Destiny Comic Sketch

While I can't vouch for the humor of the piece, I did get to use it to use up some "images" I had sitting around my head for a while. I don't know if or when I'll ever get to actually make this Destiny comic I've got planned out but I'd still really like to.

That said, I'm using some new techniques in painting that make for some really great colors and images. I haven't been increasing my speed though. I've just been increasing the labor and getting nice results for it.

Backgrounds for the next Cassiopeia Page

I thought I'd share the colors here, without any lineart in front of it. It's not really solid work, but thankfully the setting of a dusty abandoned ruined city allows me to play fast and loose with everything from perspective to rendering. The effect is really nice though, and it reminds me fondly of a project I worked on quite a while ago.

Peia Page Preview Part 2!

There's a bunch still to do but I should have this page ready for tonight... hopefully.

That said, I haven't been focusing much on using perspective in a lot of panels. It can make the pages a bit weaker but alternatively it physically takes up quite a bit of time to set up proper perspective. I haven't quite found a way to make it work while maintaining speed. Happy New Year! This is a drawing of my roomate's Cat

That's exactly what it is. He's a big fat cat and likes to jump on my stomach whenever I'm down. Like, not just down in mood. I mean just being anywhere horizontal and pillow like for him.

He's got a very specific spot of white on the right side of his nose but is otherwise just a big round brown cat. And is a bit of a sweetheart.

Anyway, I don't have much to say, but plenty to apologize for. I'm setting up soon to switch the comic to one page a week so I can catch up on EVERYTHI...

Peia Page Preview

This page is a bit of an experiment, finally taking a moment to utilize a more "painterly" approach to finishing pages. It's pretty fast and the results have a great look to them, but we will definitely lose those really nice sharp lines and colors the pages have been enjoying lately. If possible, it'd be cool to find a better happy medium that doesn't sacrifice sharpness for glow and speed.

Not Christmas Sketches (pinups)

I've been pretty public these last couple weeks of just feeling like I got hit hard. It's been coming, and it's just been a series of crashes and burns in between really high productive periods. So that's no good. Truth be told, I never really go into manic states or super deep depression wells but it's something that I've been bothered by. Some stability would be nice, but only being able to JUST bear it out could be nice too.

It's been rough

I've had a pretty bad weekend, truth be told. Lots of moods going up and down but the worst part was an overwhelming sense of tiredness. I hadn't been able to keep awake for any really appreciable length of time. And when I did get to sit down and drawing, it felt like I was drawing half blind. Falling asleep at the computer isn't great, especially if you're trying to get anything done like comic pages.

There's a really really odd story behind this family portrait and I feel embarrassed enough that I probably can't tell you about it properly! This wasn't exactly an easy page to pull off but drawing it went smoothly. Sure my fingers started to complain but I was pretty energetic throughout. Maybe it helped that I had some form of physical exercise last night...

Anyway, it was bout time to throw in Motor Minx into the comic again. True facts, she was kinda a last minute addition to the story line but now she's too cool not to give her own great scene! Lookin forward to colorin it.

One person brought up that they can't look at some of the e-mails at work. I think it'd be easy to mark anything that's flagrantly NSFW by adding (NSFW) in the subject line or post title as it looks here. But what about things that are vaguely pinuppy? Does (pinup) work in that regard?

Puttering along

One of the problems I have, that might seem bizarrely minor to other people looking in, is that I'm often at a loss for what to post. I'm wracked with a lot of indecision about what I end up putting on here. But if I can't find a good picture to post, then at least I could tell you more about the thought process.

1: Is it worth posting? More often than not, I don't believe it would be. Each post is going to an automated mass e-mail to over a hundred people. Think about your public speaking...

Pinups?

So one of the things I've been mulling over is changing my patreon to have more of a pinup focus. It's one of the things people like here the most anyway. And it seems like a good way to attract a more dedicated audience. I can move comic production and story telling ideas back to the general public on tumblr, and keep a few exclusive items here or for a future Cassiopeia Quinn patreon that'll be run separately. There's a lot to mull over and I should decide before the end of the year. Thoughts?

(NSFW) squeaky clean wet suit!

Okay, while I still consider this soooorta a commission it definitely didn't take much prodding for me to draw it out. One neat thing though, this was drawn using both the Yiynova and the new Intuos art tablets. I wonder if it's possible to tell which lines were drawn by which? (all the shading was done later with the Intuos.)

Anyway, remarkably my work has sped up dramatically. I wouldn't have any hard numbers on it but I'm getting significant drawings finished in what is almost a reasona...

Your Patreon Dollars at Work

I'd discussed this with the stream, and I discussed this a bit on twitter, but I have made the switch back from a Tablet pen with a Display, to a traditional screenless Wacom Intuos. I made this decision for a number of reasons, that if you really wanna hear me ramble on I can go over again here. Lack of a lot of money was in fact one of them. But the results I got with a traditional tablet exceeded my expectations this first go.
