How to Draw Julie

A lot of my characters have a "sameface" issue but there are some pretty specific notes I try to keep in mind when drawing each of them. Julie has some very particular things with her hair and how it's supposed to frame her face.

Silly Old Bear

I hadn't seen the movie, Christopher Robin, yet but Hulu has been bombarding me with ads. And it does look quite adorable.

I don't really stretch my "cartooning" skills all that often but I'm quite happy with how these look. They're not a 1 to 1 recreation of the Disney character sheets, they have a little bit too much "me" still in there. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Potential Patreon Payment Problem!

Hey folks, so you may or may have noticed there were some major issues with Patreon's credit card billing this month, resulting from them moving their payment processing to another country without notifying anyone! So that's fun.

So I'm like a billion years late to the program, but to be fair to me the first few episodes of Steven Universe aren't the best. But the last three that I just saw from the first season were really good!

I don't have too much to add here but it's always fun trying to use my style with characters that definitely don't fit my style. I try to find the elements of their face that are unique to that universe, and then apply those notes to how I draw. And I hope it comes out legible as that person.<...

A Personal Best

This isn't me, I'm no where NEAR 3 miles. But I'd like to get better. 

Anyway, I've had this simple idea for a single comic strip for a while now. It's not meant to be me, but just a comment about being a nice enough person and doing things you want to do online without making a lot of noise. I understand the reasons why people don't want bat characters to use guns but if I were to make a book I totally would find a way to make a bat kid using a gun be something meaningful and scary and something that everyone knows is out of character. Well... funnily enough this week and last week featured a comic where both Damian Wayne and Jason Todd used a gun. So... maybe I wouldn't be that groundbreaking. And Batman's used rifles before... whatever. Comics are complicated.

Super Bunny Hop

She's a Handful

Practicing hands and harder poses. There's a high res in the dropbox. Obviously this isn't my BEST drawing of a hand but I'm starting to think that... once I start getting into closeups of anatomy that will take a huge amount of page space, I might be better off painting them and then adding an outline. It's a little hard for me to get a sense of the whole shape when I'm zoomed in too early and trying to get every detail down.

The Big Guns

I didn't like the design of this arm. I thought I could get away with some random shapes but in the end this one felt like it had the least form out of any of the colette gauntlets. Just cause it's floating doesn't make it interesting. She looks good though.

Gettin Fit

So this past few months, I've been getting into an exercise regimen. I've got a good thing going, and I've only been adding more exercises to my weekly routine. Biking. Eating better. It's helping me feel better. It's a little time consuming but I find the only time it's eating out of my day is time that I would otherwise spend staring at the ceiling and sulking.

A Batman Redesign

Followers on my twitter (why are you following that hell account?) have probably seen this already. It was a quickly done redesign for Batman but I rather like a lot of elements on it. I've done it again, and he's even leaner in the newer pics. I wanted to get away from how he's drawn in many of the recent comics as being super humanly muscly, like he could give the guys of Mr Universe a run for their money with how cut and gigantic he is. To me that's not very appealing and I don't think it fit...

I've been wondering how best to handle the level of consciousness that the hand has. I want it to be practically it's own person. But how Handy's actually aware of things is a mystery. Is she able to see or sense things around her? Probably if she's able to send text messages without Hannah knowing about them. I want to keep that ability even if it strains plausibility. It's too good a narrative device to not have, and having a phone to keep Handsy occupied wouldn't always be a bad thing.

Haven't drawn colette in a while

This isn't much here, and I'm still a little low on energy for typing a lot. I mean... I spend more of that energy typing at my therapist instead.

Anyway, Colette's a little skinny here but I like the expressiveness. What I REALLY like on this page is the nice robot hand.
