I have mentioned the Star Wars collaborative story I am part of over on a website called "Spacebattles.com"; I am working on making a few character pictures, some of which I have shared here a few weeks ago.
Here is my latest, a character called Shayyla Axmis-Syfardos. She is the daughter of Tavion Axmis, who was originally a canonical character with a minor bit part in the second Kyle Katarn video game, "Dark Forces II: J...

Why would anyone want to protest doodles? Oh, you mean protesting by using doodles! I can get on board with that! As I made this doodle, President Aleksandar Vucic was the target of protests all across Serbia.
It's like there's a Rebellion or something!
The cops are too busy with their donuts, I guess.

First I'd like to start by apologizing for the weird disappearance of what was supposed to be the "WIP Wednesday" material. I had stuff loaded; I distinctly remember loading it, but when I came in here today to load this comic, I realized that the last published item was the Monday Doodles. I honestly have no idea what happened to the WIP Wednesday stuff. Did I forget to save it? I have no idea. But I loaded them, and once I loaded them I deleted them from my work folder, so they are gone.

Sometimes even monsters need to let loose and have a drink.
Um, well, okay, hello, there, Mr. Larva. Pleased to meet you. I guess.

And so, it begins...
...or in this case, ends. I've heard that "Every beginning is the start of an end," and so it shall soon be with my time here in sunny, downtown Kosovo (actually, as I write this, it is anything but sunny, but that's beside the point.
I have begun the final comics that I will work on in Kosovo. By the time these post to the main site, I will either be all the way home, or a...

I apologize for having to continue this WIP from the previous week... I got back from vacation and was caught short of material, and now I am back for just a few days and I am being transferred to another base called "Nothing Hill" (yes, that is its real name, probably from the same weirdo that named our other base in the area "Film City").
It's not a big deal, I'm only going to be there a couple of days and may even be back before this posts.

As I come back from vacation, I don't have a lot of stuff ready and queued up, so I am putting some comics together tonight (it is 9:50 pm in Kosovo as I do this now) and I don't have a full WIP product all the way to the end.
Still, I am maximizing my time by using a one-panel comic, and here it is, slowly coming together.
You may have noticed I am starting with a unusual all-blue "pencil" l...

Looks like you got yourself into Funeral School! This sounds like a very grave undertaking, indeed!
Look, the Army even gives you a budget hearse!
On the other hand, if you've gotten yourself into Appalachia, well, I dunno what to do.

Not quite a dumpster fire, more like... a garbage tank, bearing down on you!
Better than having one of these bearing down on you while you're in the trenches, I guess, so... yay? Think positively?

I have some full-page stuff to share this time because there's no giveaway in the visuals!
As usual, I get my visual references from looking at photo references. It's easier and easier for me to find things, I just hit up Google Images for things like "irritated woman at desk" and I find what I need.
All I really need nowadays is any basic picture; I just need the expression and body pro...

That's what I am; a crusty old GWOT veteran. We were doing introduction to rifle marksmanship ("PMI" = Primary Marksmanship Instruction, a classroom phase you attend prior to going out to the firing range) and the instructor warned people that "some crusty old GWOT vet" will try to give them wrong advice about how to use the sights. I felt called out.

This episode is going to be titled, "A Piece of Home". It starts with the usual loose, crummy pencil sketch that gets the important parts down so that I can build on them.
Getting some detail in. A friend of mine from my Army Reserve unit went to Boise State University to get a degree in Illustration. I asked him if he liked it and if it was worth it (I had been thinking of doing the same thing)...

I made a special comic in about an hour (whew!) because of an event that took place in the unit. I do hope that --by the time this posts-- people are ready to look back at it and laugh. Right now there's still a bit of heartburn over it.
However, because the comic itself was made with some haste, it is a smaller format, which means I have to do some trimming to get it to fit.

Here at Camp Bondsteel, in Kosovo, we have what's called the "Eagle Cash Card". It is essentially a pre-paid debit card that is used instead of cash at the on-post venues. We fill it with money from our home accounts, and you can only charge what you have on it.
It's better than a credit card or debit because if someone steals it, they only have the money that is on it and no more. Once it runs out, that's it. Of course, some people load up their Eagle cash cards and take the risk, but...

I got a lot of comics done last Saturday, the 8th. I am trying to get as many created as possible so I can pre-load stuff before going on vacation for two weeks. This one is a single-panel comics because my previous comic was a big two-pager with four large, broad panels in it... so now I'm going to do something a little less ambitious.
SO the first image is of course just the pencil version, ...

"Film City" is the name of a real camp in Kosovo; it is in fact the main Multinational Headquarters camp located in the capitol of Prishtina. I'm not sure where the name comes from.
And if you want to go there, it is easiest to just drive a car, or as we call it, a "GMR". GMR stands for Ground Movement Request and it means the formal requesting of a regular car for ordinary transport. So this would be a civilian, commercial vehicle instead of, say, a HUMVEE.
The majority of thes...
