Aaaaarrrmy Chow, Sir!

Yum Yum! I actually filmed this awhile ago, during the summer, but I wanted to give it some time since it wasn't topical, and I didn't want it to eventually get out and have some poor cook get in trouble. I also felt that having a food-related (if critical) video go live after Thanksgiving in the US would be humorously appropriate.

Until later!

Caricatures From Across the Sea!

It is rare for me to do Caricatures; I can draw people in general but I find it difficult to draw a specific person-- they never look quite right to me. But here were a few people I was with over in Israel in the Overseas Students Program.

This was a girl named Andrea and I tried to capture her not just as a caricature but as an anthropomorphic version of her caricature, something I'd never tri...

Doodles From Across the Sea

I lived in Israel for a few years, from 1998 to 2002. It was a very meaningful turning point in my life, because I had just wrapped up the old "furry Empires" two years earlier and started college. While I was there, I did a number of comics and doodles. Above: Hafiz al-Assad, the former "President" (Dictator) of Syria before he died, confronts God with the notion that "According to MY maps, you're in my seat!"

BOHICA News!

Hey everyone! For those of us in the northern hemispheres, brace yourselves: Winter is Coming! In some cases it feels like it is already here! As I type this, my home town is already getting pounded by what is supposed to be an inch (2.54 cm) of snow.

Of course, I know at least one person reading this is in Norway, who probably laughs at such a paltry amount of snow. But for us, it is the start of a cold season.

But I just wanted to update the latest R...

Like a lot of veterans, I too am employed in the Federal civil service. In particular, I work for US Citizenship & Immigration Services. Before anyone gets excited, what I do is spectacularly dull, because I am a records clerk-- which is every bit as exciting as it sounds. I am part of the "legal" side of Immigration: people who file their visas, get interviews, pay the required fees and take an English proficiency test, and get sworn in as citizens. I am not part of the ICE (Imm...

Dungeons & Dragons Character & NPC Sketches

Because I was a HUGE D&D nerd for years and years, I have a bunch of character & NPC sketches! Above: I think she was a half-elf ranger.

Don't remember; perhaps a priestess or wizard? I incorporated a lot of my then-Empires costume elements into her.

This one I remember, she was an...

More goofy-ass stuff I came up with for no reason. This never went anywhere.

Random Empires chick I drew; again, no real reason.

Old EMPIRES Art From Way Back When

Some stuff I found sifting through old piles o' art paper at my mom's house.

I think this was an early character design idea that eventually got replaced by Corporal Barona as a "main" character, while the ideas for this one got re-incorporated into Sgt. Shaddock and Lt. Kotlin.

Inked and ...

EMPIRES Guest Appearance (Back In The Day)

Back in the furry era setting, there were a lot of guest appearances in other creators' works. Above: the "Red Shetland" portfolio, in which Jim Groat, the creator of Red Shetland (a popular indie title back then) invited people to draw their own versions of Red Shetland, frequently interacting with the guest artists own creations. Below: my contribution.

Yeah, the stances are stiff and there'...

It's Halloween month, and you know what that means! Parties!
Well, usually it means parties, but, you know... 2020.
But when you have a party, you need a Party Girl!  *Hic!*

I had a Drow Elf NPC running a coffee b...

Empires Alien Doodles!

Some more of the aliens from my "Empires" reboot. Again, I was trying to "de-furry-ize" the aliens but I still had a lot of inertia behind my thought process; my initial images in my mind were still closely linked to the animal likenesses. The A'Kii a probably my best example since here they still very much resemble the wolf template I used for Sergeant Tasayana Nile. I have since revised these in my mind and will re-launch further changes in the future. But one thing is for sure, I always wa...

Empires Alien Doodles!

Some of my aliens in the "proper" science-fiction setting of the universe! These designs were, at one time, "finalized" but before I go back and re-launch everything I want to carefully consider them again. There may be minor tweaks made, there may not. I like the above guys, the Kreen, If I change them much I will probably de-emphasize some of the more "animal like" features. Or say that this was a ancient/primitive version during evolution.

Classic Comics: Before BOHICA

Some more old Joe Rock and associated comics from way, waaaayyy back. We sometimes got field showers as a way to buoy morale and extend our stays downrange (also to train the field shower people) but safe to say little effort was made to make sure it was a completely welcome experience.

I feel like this one was low-hanging fruit now, but I suspect that at the time I thought I was breakin...

"Empires" Doodles

Some doodles I made as I began to switch things from "furry" to "sci-fi". I have, from time to time, tried to imagine just some basic things about the re-imagined "Empires" universe and as I do so I make doodles and sketches to preserve my ideas.

Above: dogs and cats still exist in the Empires universe, but they have been joined by another favorite pet called a "Rajel". It is pronounced more like "ruh-zhel" and not like "Rachel". They're medium-dog sized, and have some tree climbi...

Driving in Idaho Doodles!

I did a brief set of comics about driving in Idaho; I enjoyed it and may do another version of it with some expansions. Here's a sampling of the cartoons I used, which appeared in a college student newspaper. Top: in Idaho, even the BMWs have gun racks in them.

(The "California" part got cut off for some reason):

One of Many old "Empires" Setting Ideas

The "Empires" universe I created was always intended to be a big place with a lot of story potential. One idea I briefly toyed with was a "Private Detective" idea set in that universe. This was still in the "furry" era as I was still finishing the science-fiction story in Yarf! so my mind was still operating in that mode at the time.

I was thinking I'd do a bit of development and shelve this idea and maybe bring it up again later and I still might, although of course not with furr...

Dog Gone!

A couple pictures done of a dog I once owned named Sota.

Sota was a part-Samoyed/part-Coyote dog and quite a beautiful dog; her coyote lineage was very obvious and she had a very "wolfish" look to her that was softened by her fluffy white Samoyed coat.

I adopted Sota with a girlfriend at the time-- the girlfriend was Aeryn Summers, the same girl that did some of the inking an...

BOHICA News!

Hello, and here's another issue of BOHICA News!

A new book is out called "Drawing Fire: The Editorial Cartoons of Bill Mauldin" and guess what-- BOHICA Blues is featured in it as one of the military comics inspired by Bill Mauldin!

Bill Mauldin, of course, is the famous World War Two cartoonist behind "Willie and Joe" and, yes, he definitely was an inspiration for me. This book, jus...

ARRRRRRMY Doodles, sir!

More doodles, this time from a class I attended way back in the day (around 2008).

We blamed all of our problems in the class on "Goddamn Bears". No matter what they were, the problem always came down to sneaky bears doing something to mess us up.

BOHICA Blues: Today's Adventures

First of the new BOHICA Blues, untethered to a story or particular moment in time. For the most part you'll see your favorite characters at their "primary role" -- Joe as a Squad Leader, all the junior guys, Douglas Dawg as either a Platoon Sergeant or First Sergeant, and so on.

Hope you enjoy; my Patreon Battalion will get to see this kind of stuff FIRST and in some cases you may be the ONLY ones to see certain comics (some may be "slightly R rated").

BOHICA News! New Stuff from Random Coyote Productions

Hello everyone in the ol' 213th Battalion Coyote Pack. Long-timers here have probably noticed a few changes lately. A year or two ago I made a new banner image at the top that had the  "Random Coyote" logo in the top left, and the "Random Coyote Productions LLC" with my name and the circle-C copyright logo in the lower right.

Then, a few weeks ago --after the BOHICA Blues comic wrapped up its story-- I changed the tagline from "CF Grant is creating the BOHICA Blues webcomic" ...

Classic Comics: Former Concept Designs on a Dare

A long time ago, one of the crew I hung with challenged me to "draw something not military related". I asked him for ideas and he said "draw a street punk". I thought that sounded like a cool idea and came up with the character of "Vixette d'Punque". Of course I was still in my early-to-mid-'90's furry phase so the character was based on a fox. Above: the computer line art I completed just a few days ago from the barely-legible old pencil sketch I found.

She went on a lot of trips across the Atlantic to places from Miami up to Ontario and Toronto, and just about every other large east coast city in-between. Beer Labels and Mascots

One of my former roommates took it upon himself to learn beer brewing at home. I. of course, was an enthusiastic supporter of this endeavor. I helped finance some of it and also designed labels for the beer. He made a beer called "Dogbolter" (for which there was no label) and later made "Pooch Hooch", and I made this label. I worked at Kinko's Copies at the time so it was easy for me to run a few labels on sheets of sticker paper and cut them & bring them home to apply to the bottles. The...
