Back when I was doing my comic, the furry-version of "Empires", I did a lot of other furry stuff too... a lot of it was silly, goofy stuff because I needed to do something to break from all the grumpy combat in that setting. Above: pulling the mystic chainsaw "HomeliteCaliber" from the stone to become the new King.

Some kind of Samurai type fox guy, for some reason. The circle with three lines ...

Many years ago, I was thinking of playing the "Star Wars" role-playing game with some friends, and these were a few ideas I came up with. Above: a plan for a smuggler's ship.

This was going to be a NPC the characters meet early in the game. AT first they think she's a legit IMperial TIE bomber pilot, but soon find that she's left the Empire and took her bomber with her. Now they're not sure if...

So the next story was written by a friend of mine who asked me about LGBQT issues in the Empires universe. I had no real answer at the time because it just wasn't something I thought about, not being in the LGBQT community myself. I just said that "discrimination for whatever reason" wouldn't be allowed in the Central Alliance military, on the books, but of course some people would or would not honor that because there will always be people that discriminate for their own reasons.

Now that the main story of Empires: The Ace of Spades and Morrigan's War are over, now is the time to enjoy a drinking game. As you go back and re-read the story from the start, you can appreciate it on whole new levels such as alcohol poisoning and cirrhosis of the liver. Enjoy, and Salud!

I hope everyone is doing well; I have some stuff coming very soon. I hope folks don't mind, I took a couple weeks off after finishing BOHICA Blues. I mean, I took two weeks off from my day job and am spending it lounging and playing "Last Of Us Part 2" and doing some hiking, and getting a few things done around the house I have been putting off.
Many folks reading this know that my mom passed away recently. I have also spent a lot of time over at her house clearing things out, whi...

We had another activity book made for kids at our Kinko's Copies location. Naturally, me with a bit of time on my hands and a bit of a naughty streak, made my own version. Naturally, none of these were shared with any actual kids; it was kept internal to us Night Shift employees.
This time I am placing the original on the left, and my response version on the right.

A family friend recently lost her dog, a Corgi named Tristan. Still with a lot of thoughts about my own dog, Sadie, on my mind, I drew up this card. Sadie and Tristan knew each other and played together from time to time, so it seemed fitting they'd run together in the great dog land in the sky.

Regular readers probably are already aware that the ongoing, official BOHICA Blues story has come to a conclusion. As of this writing, there remains only the "Epilogue" left to go, which will be updated soon (it's going to be kind of long compared to most BOHICA Blues comics).
But this does not mean that BOHICA Blues is 100% done! I will switch to comics that are more random and casual in nature, not necessarily following any particular story and not updated regularly. The militar...

I work in an office where we have things called "A-Files", these are our account files, basically, and I know them only as "A Files". My job is a Records clerk, so I need to keep track of them, know where they are, who controls them, and making sure they are secure but available and get to the people who need them the most.
There's a lot of jargon that goes into these A-Files, mostly a lot of legalistic bullshit that I don't know (and have neither need to know nor interest to care...

Man, the 1980's was a long time ago! A totally different world. I mean, I'm still one of those people that reflexively thinks the 1990's was "about 10 years ago", while at the same time I look back at the 1980's as, like, that was during the Caesar administration, right?
Anyhow, as noted before here, it was a time of Cold War, and near-constant jokes about accidentally kicking off a nuclear exchange that would obliterate global civilization and probably destroy life on Earth for a...

Some more stuff from the Way Back Machine.
I'd already established I was willing to make comics base don suggestions or requests, but sometimes I didn't think through the fact that, outside of the small group of people immediately affected, a joke was utterly meaningless. All humor, especially comics, is topical, which makes them relevant to the audience, but if you narrow it too much to a fine point it essentially becomes an "inside joke" aired out loud... and kind of alienating to the...

Hey, it is time to welcome a couple new Patrons to the Patreon Battalion: Joose Paivio and Vinertsm have joined the team at the "Private" level of $1 a month. This gives them access to a lot of doodles and development sketches that I produce as part of the ongoing BOHICA Blues comic project. From time to time, I share a lot of extra things like old "Before BOHICA" comics and other classic comics at the $1 level to help make the ongoing COVID-19 lockdowns a little less onerous.

I started another Empires-based story (or at least I tried to start one) for a fanzine called "Mythagoras" in Tampa, FL. Above was an advertisement in Yarf! for that story and fanzine. "Mythagoras" was trying to be a sort of "East Coast Yarf!" that would publish stuff a bit more artsy in flavor. The 'zine published only three issues before it failed (due to the printers closing down and not releasing the originals or refunds; it was pretty shady). I tried to continue the story in the APA/Fanz...

It's that time again! Time for... doodles done during briefings.

For the unfamiliar, "N.J.P" is "Non-Judicial Punishment". Any time you mess up in the Army, but they're not going to send you to jail or shoot you, they can do a "non judicial punishment". As mentioned with the earlier post about developing a story, I was unable to keep myself from making things progress. I'm compelled to expound on characters and show things growing and changing, and I have a hard time avoiding the development of relationships between characters. In this case, I felt it necessary to have a romantic relationship between early Joe Rock and Sharilee, even though originally the characters had nothing to do with each other and were intended to be stand-alone gag-a-...

Some covers that were done for the Yarf! fanzine back in the day. I am leased to look back and know that the very first ever Yarf! fanzine featured my characters/story. If you've been following the "Empires: the Ace of Spades/Morrigan's War" story at the Sergeant tier, you'll recognize a lot of these characters and note that a new cover was done to note new phases of the story being introduced.

In the world of webcomics, there are two primary types of comics: the "long-form story" and the "gag-a-day" format. Obviously, the "long form story" establishes characters, a time line, events from past comics build towards events in future comics, and there's more or less some continuity and actions have lasting effects. Stories, of course, can be funny to serious, slice-of-life, or dark. Characters *usually* grow and change, although that is not always the case.
"Gag-a-day" comics are...

There was an old, famous commercial from the 1980 for a donut shop. I forget which shop; it was a famous nationwide chain (I think it was Dunkin' Donuts, I know for sure it wasn't Winchell's, which was a much smaller competitor). But the commercial featured a friendly-looking but sort of dumpy guy who was supposed to be a baker getting up at some crazy hour like 3 AM to go make the first batch of donuts fresh and ready for customers on their way to work. The message, of course, was that the f...
