Chapter 145—Patching

AG. Sorry a bit of a disaster I failed to save today's chapter and had to recreate it from the audio file. I'm very annoyed and worried that the quality might not be there.

With worry gnawing in his stomach, Tom left the carpet of blue grass to return to the isolation room. As he did so, the brief spurt of memories from his avatar relieved some of his concerns. Kang hadn’t said a thing and had let go of the crystal twice, but both times his avatar had forced t...

Chapter 144—Trial Results

AG. Three chapters this week. Probably today, tomorrow and Thursday. This chapter is 4k words.

Tom woke and almost leapt out of bed. Figuratively, of course, as actually doing it might create a scene which was something someone in his circumstances had to avoid. Instead of taking physical action he transitioned straight into the divine champion’s trial he hadn’t wanted to wake at three am but that was better than sleeping in. His plan had worked. He was awake, brigh...

Chapter 143—Reality Illusion

AG. There is no audio file for this chapter. I've been trying to get it to generate for a week I've tried on about a dozen seperate occassions and have escalated it but haven't got a respons back. I'm not hopeful but if it miraculously fixes itself up I'll post it.

He joined the others in the obstacle course room, relinquishing his ability to stay in the divine trial, as the complicated acrobatics the course demanded were the best place to practice his movemen...

Chapter 142—Understanding Mana

Before stepping away from the ritual screen, Tom checked how fast it would recharge. This particular artefact thankfully, was better than most. In only fifty-three minutes, he could find out specifics on the hidden trait. That wasn’t bad at all. He rubbed his hands together in glee. Soon he would be able to read the truth, but right now there was testing to complete..

This was going to be fun.

With a burst of energy, he grabbed a spear and launched himself into the familiar form...

Chapter 141—Distorted Evolution

Tom endured the agony as Mr Cricket continued his training. It had been at least half an hour and if he was lucky, it would finish soon.

Corrine snapped into existence, filling the space on the side of the table between him and his torturer. She was an excellent excuse, so he didn’t hesitate.  He leapt to his feet and shot the open competitor what he hoped was a brave glare. “We’re finished for today.”

“No. We most certainly, am not! I’m not done.”

“We a...

Chapter 140—Hammer Instructions

They still hadn’t managed to upgrade the skill they shared but they were working on it.

Sweat was running down his face and his arms trembled as he swung the hammer. He was desperately mimicking the big shaggy man’s form to the best of his abilities while also participating in a semi-serious duel with him. Within the flow of the swings, he kept trying to strike Frankie his trainer, while making sure he wasn’t struck in return. Ultimately, none of it mattered. If he landed a ...

Quick Update - 13th of Feb

First I'll be extending the billing pause for another month.

I'm currently planning on restarting publishing chapters on the 10th of March. Hopefully by then I'll have a back log of five to ten chapters so that I can be consistent with posting.

What's happening with me. This week I'm on track to do a little under 40 hours of work. That's all been dedicated to gettign fate points book 4 edited and a little bit of work on book 3. Next week I plan on starting to produce Unhinged Fu...

I've paused billing

I'm embarrassed about the amont of content I've been getting out so I've paused billing.

It's just really hard at the moment... and I'm struggling to actually write (as you've probably noticed.) If I publish 40k words while paused I'll restart the billing next month, otherwise I'll go another month paused.

Sorry everyone. It's just stressing me out too much that I'm delivering enough which makes it harder to write and so on.

Chapter 139—Maximising Advantages

AG. Next chapter probably won't be for four to five days. I have a three day horse event thing I have to support. This is the last big thing I have for the summer holidays and my "distractedness" appears to be improving, so I'm hopeful of being able to get into a more normal routine soon.

Anger had to be channelled into something productive, so as Tom exited out to the massive hallway and saw Kang and Briana doing the same, that’s what he focused on. He suppres...

Chapter 138—Curse Resistance

When it was time for the compulsory two hours in the isolation room, Tom was looking forward to it for a reason other than training. Today he was going to explore and plan out the process of gaining curse resistance titles. It was slightly whimsical and not at all brutally efficient like he usually approached things, but he been deliberately stopping himself from exploring the alternate body tempering pathways for fun. Not completely, of course. He already knew the order he was intending to g...

Chapter 137—Expanded Training

AG. Two audio files. Decided for this one it was better to keep the chapter together

He smiled as he arrived back in DEUS’s main gathering area. Today’s duel had been fun. Not only had it been an interesting fight, the WADOR representative had been a good sport and had even gifted him weapons that would make him more powerful going forward.

He quickly checked what he had received and frowned. None of them had any things as useful as the eat magic ability whic...

Chapter 136—A Reminder of Priorities

AG. Happy New Year everyone. I wish you health, happiness and fulfillment.

As he always did when entering this room, he took out his Danger Sense disk.

This was an upgraded version, as he had amended key parts of the design to reflect his improved understanding. The combination of investing fate and supervision by experts meant he was a hundred percent confident in the changes that he had made.

It was more powerful than it had ever been and would...

Chapter 135—Making Strides

Tom crept through the dark corridors. He traced a familiar path, mirroring trips he had completed dozens of times before. He knew he should have been further progressed than he was. His aim had been to visit twice every week. Historically, he had failed. For most of the first year, he had barely gotten out to them even once per week let alone twice. DEUS placing a sleep skill into his recommended list had transformed those dynamics.

He smiled as he remembered his reaction when it had po...

Chapter 134—More Difficulties

AG. Second chapter of the day. It's not really a bonus chapter as I intended all of this to be in the previous chapter but my audio software (last step of my editing process) was stuffing up so I had to split it.

He was up to fifty successful coins out of his target of three thousand. All four of his supervisors were praising his efforts, but he felt clumsy and the fact that only one out of every five that he started met their standards did not feel good.

“Yo...

Chapter 133—Starting a Business

Tom once more stood in front of the three doors. The thrill of what they represented was gone. He was in the process of saving up for the divine fruit and so there was no excitement in getting coins. All they did was add to his stash, and it was going to take years before he could use them. Any single fight in the greater scheme of things didn’t matter provided he survived.

He flipped the disk.

It came up heads, so he flipped again and again until the ninth flip revealed it was ...

Chapter 132—Self Experimentation

The priestess was standing a polite two metres away from him. She was waiting patiently with an expectant look on her face. She wanted to know why he had insisted on getting someone like her to experiment on. For a few seconds, he pondered the best way to tell her, and then he remembered the contagious nature of the title and he realised that instead of explaining first he could just demonstrate.

Inside, he smiled.

“Do you remember the oracle questions from the tutorial?”

Chapter 131—Gears of Bureaucracy

Tom had a lot of pent-up energy and a thousand different questions spinning in his head after reading the first of the three books Dimitri had supplied. He was relieved to discover after his daily isolation session, that Vturalta was rostered to supervise him. Out of the four open competitors, she was the one he was most comfortable chatting with.

While he was tempted to grill her immediately, he knew on a subconscious level that it was not the best approach. Instead, he attempted to fo...

Chapter 130—Managing the Curse

He departed from his divine championship trial for his usual isolation room practice and when he got back, Vturalta took over the supervision, but he didn’t really care who was in that role. He needed a diversion and so he threw himself into the detailed Living Wood carving to distract himself. “Concentrate,” she snapped, breaking his trancelike state.

Tom stared at the disk in his hand sadly. He didn’t have to ask. He knew this was going in the bin. ...

Chapter 129—Natural Disaster

Dimitri, with a scowl produced a cloth and wiped down the table in front of him. “Tom, that’s not how the world works. I don’t care what you’ve achieved I just can’t go around giving you people to experiment on.”

Tom tried and failed to contain a smirk.

Abruptly, the larger man stopped talking. “I see. It’s one of those. Tell me your plan.”

“I’m restricted with what I can share.” He answered instantly and then paused. He realised that he should have w...

Chapter 128—Unravelling the Secret to the Trident

AG. Apologies for the long wait between chapters. I've been doing my best to distract myself as at the moment I'm really disliking empty thinking time. Mainly I've been doing that by starting a new series. I've been unable to continue any series, that includes DCC or read chapter by chapter updates on the dozen or so RR series I'm following.

Unfortunatley reading a series cuts into my productivity severely. To fix that I'm not going to allow my self to start anything new so...

Chapter 127—Small Steps

Momentarily, Tom was suspended in emptiness before he was deposited into the new arena. He did so with a splash as he landed amidst what could only be described as a flood. There were dark clouds in the sky but no rain, yet the entire landscape was covered with water that went up to his knees.

It was unpleasant, but he, of course didn’t care about that. His mind was already focused on searching for a terrain advantage. The whole arena surface was submerged with a weak current going fr...

Chapter 126—Community Help

The moment he was alone in his system room Tom stared at the wall. “Show the curated list.” He ordered. It was important because not only did it provide significant discounts it was also a guide to what DEUS thought he should be working toward. He was not at all surprised to discover the list had changed slightly.

Chapter 125 – Cheating Aliens

Tom stared at the three doors in front of him. He had stood here often and was losing track of the days, but this was something like his fiftieth fight, and the disk toss had consistently told him that he was going to fail. And except for that one time, it had been right.

This was going to be his fifth fight since the darkhole trial and even with that boost in strength he had still lost all four of those death matches. The full GOD shield meant that he was not damaged even psychol...

Chapter 124 – Hidden Benefits

AG. I've been slowly focusing on doing more writing. It went twenty minutes on tuesday, than half an hour, then half a day and almost a full day today. I'm still impacted because my words per hour is down but hopefully I'll get production back to normal levels soon.

There was a competition to win, but analysing everything was part of that process. It wasn’t something to put on the back-burner. Absently, he glanced around the well-lit isolation room. The aftereffects...

Writing Update & Fate Points Release Announcement.

I actively took last week off and have tried to write today but failed. I'll try again tomorrow, and the next day because I need to stop distracting myself with reading bad books (admittedly two of the four series I've read have been fantastic).

Mentally I'm still getting random mood swings which every one tells me is normal but rather abnormal for me. My wife is continuously surprised by how much I've been effected. It makes doing happy creative writing hard and I don't want to kill...

Changes to Chapter 123 (not a chapter sorry)

AG. I was going to do a lot of this via discovery but I figured this works as well. I've changed the description of Note 3 and added in a 4th note. .

Note 3. Known Heretic has influenced this title and been changed in turn. This title has contributed a small amount to upgrading Known Heretic to a new level. In the other direction these notes have been made available due to the boost.

Chapter 123 – Stretching Fate

“So, are you going to spill?” Corrine asked. “How did you gain those abilities? Did someone give you a treasure?”

Briefly, he considered the gifts that Eloise had given him. In a way, they counted. Of course, he no longer possessed them as nothing could go in and out of the trial, but they had been a priceless possession at the time. While a tier three weapon in the greater scheme of things was nothing to humanity, it had been critical on the last day. But it was not why he had ...

Chapter 122 – Adapting

The surroundings had shattered, and he had been summarily expelled from Kang’s system room into Existentia proper. It was weird as there was another moment of stilled time presumably to allow his mind to seamlessly integrate back into his true body. Some serious system aid was occurring because he had gone from standing to mid step and it didn’t feel at all unnatural.

It was a surprisingly pleasant experience.

Briana was still ahead, because, back then, all those weeks ago, at...

No Chapter Today and Possibly not for the rest of the week

My Dad has had cancer for awhile. Over the weekend an infection in the lungs got the better of him (he had been in the hospital for a week at that point, but that wasn't too alarming as his spent a couple of months in hospital over the last 2 years. A+ for free healthcare in Australia.) Yesterday evening he went critical and is currently unresponsive. He's still alive as of now but the situation is pretty grim.

I'm not sure how my emotional state will play out over the next few days bu...
