UNITED Concepts (1)

The first concepts for my new comic!

I apologize for anything that isn't legible, I was just trying to get my ideas down as fast as possible and establish basic lore n such. There are some things written here that are (or will be) retconned or evolve, so don't take anything here too seriously!

The main thing here would be the protagonists: Ashe, Poppy, and deuteragonist, Oryx. I started off with a really clear idea of Ashe's body shape, so I started there. I knew I wanted Poppy to be a bigger girl, so I mostly focused on her shape and tried figuring out details as I went along. As you can see, amusingly, I ended up drawing her in a way that appealed to me in terms of design, but not for her specifically - hence, she has a twin now! A twin brother, who's trans and still needs a name.

I already knew about the two main protags, but Oryx came later, because I had this vague idea in my head of a character with that horned head shape. Briefly I considered having them be the main antagonist, but as I drew and understood them more, I started realizing they weren't a villain and hardly an antagonist, but rather someone who's unfortunate circumstances were leading them down a difficult path. For reasons that'll be explored later, Oryx is hard of hearing and communicates through a mix of speaking and sign. In the comic, I'm going to be gently basing the way she moves her hands on real ASL, but taking liberties since Oryx (and multiple) other characters have 4 fingers instead of 5.

Lastly we have the beginnings of references for Oryx and Poppy. I'm going to be making one for Oryx too, and then less tidy refs for the other main players in the story. There are a couple of side characters that I've drawn, crucial to the story, that I'm not revealing just yet. I'm still trying to decide how spoiler-heavy I want to get with the patreon exclusive stuff.

That's all for now! Feel free to ask questions if you have any, if I can answer them I'll do so (and sometimes questions help me consider things I might overlook when it comes to worldbuilding)
